@ dkaile :

Congratulations on a Superb car, At a Superb price and on

Writing a Superb review

I am sure that fellow BHPians will join me in wishing that your ownership experience also turns out be good if not superb.

We share few things, I am also from your neighboring city Muzaffarnagar, I also owned a Matiz (which i fondly remember) and currently have an Altis. Your review with extensive list of car's features have given me food for thought for considering Superb when I change my Altis.

The heating feature on ORVMs is a very good safety feature and is needed mostly for cool and damp climate to clear fogging of mirrors. I have found this to be great help on our Jaguar in U.K. Heated ORVMs coupled with heated rear screens provide improved vision in rainy, cool or humid conditions. Jaguar also provides an invisible electric mesh inside the FRONT windscreen to defog the front screen also. This feature is only available on high-end Jaguars as they have a patent on this.

Similarly rain speed sensitive automatic wipers are also a boon in rainy condition as they leave you free to concentrate on driving. I am sure that Superb will also have this feature.

I don't think it is a good idea to fiddle with the recommended tyre pressure and tyre ratings. After all manufacturers suggest those settings after much testing in local conditions by properly qualified engineers. Low tyre pressure provides a soft and comfortable ride and a higher pressure provides stiff ride but much better control in high speed driving.

Jaguar recommends low pressure of 34 for normal driving upto 100 MPH, but recommend higher pressure in low 40's (I don't remember the exact figures) for spirited driving over 100 mph. Last year before going on a long drive on highways and hilly terrain in UK., I increased the tyre pressure and could feel the instant change in car's character. It morphed into a ready to leap ferocious beast from a tame cat. Engaging the Sports mode after that completed the transformation from a luxury car to a GT cruiser fit for a autobahn.

Congratulations once again and drive safe.

Thanks akj53.

Superb has a similar heated windshield feature but it is only available in European spec model as the need for this in India would be in very remote areas or for a very less period.

Superb has rain speed sensitive automatic wipers.

Agreed totally on the recommended tyre pressure front. I am maintaining ONLY Skoda recommended tyre pressure and am getting a very good ride with the stock Goodyears. The stocks have also fared quite well on the heavily pot holed roads of North India till now i.e. 1000 kms.

Will be following shortly with feedbacks and photos of my recent 600 kms trip to Jim Corbett Park and Nainital.

En-route picked up the missing lock of the Foot Mat from the Haldwani Dealer. As he did not have it in his stock, the owner was kind enough to give me one from his personal Superb. Since that a beige coloured one, got it painted black back home. Its looking quite good and not as garish as it has come out in the photo with the flash.

PS- The petrol was refilled at Moradabad on route back. 44 litres from the 485kms done till then. So actual mileage came out to be 11kmpl. This included lots of jams en-route and city traffic. Again tested the mileage on the smoother Moradabad-Meerut run (110kms) and the mileage achieved on tank to tank basis was an incredible 14.5kmpl. This time it was on ordinary petrol instead of premium.

It will. Do the following -

1) Turn the ignition ON.
2) Immediately switch it OFF.
3) Prod/tap the wiper stalk.

The AC is a chiller. I think most people don't know how to fully control the AC properly due to its somewhat high complexity and functionality. It's Auto has 2 modes - Low and High and sometimes by default it goes on the low mode and the Auto button has to be pressed twice to toggle it into High mode. I have already posted photos of the same.

At the high mode it will blow the pants out of any AC I have seen.

Is it the low/high mode or the first mode is auto Air conditioning while the second mode is Auto Air circulation where the second mode takes care of fan speed as well.

This is my understanding.

It is a low/high toggle mode. Auto Air Circulation along with Air Quality sensing is an added feature which can be operated in tandem.

And now the Fortuner's length

Some Observations-
Sitting back in the Fortuner after a stint in the Superb does make you feel seriously short-changed for the price paid. But the Fortuner's engine is still a dream and the body shell construction and the 17 incher Dunlop's does over power the Superb. The simplistic no-nonsense approach to driving by Toyota will always garner fans but don't I wish that it could be supplemented by the luxury of a Superb. A dream amalgamation then...

But BOTH 'Live to Drive'

Wondering what is the actual on road price of the Superb in Chennai...did a quick call to find out that the manual elegance trim is about Rs 22 lakhs after discounts (on road)..any particular reason why the huge difference between this and the price quoted on this thread?...

19 lakhs OTR is a great price..3 lakhs is a lot of difference!

In fact the OTR was 18.4 Lacs and not 19L. If I would have taken the delivery at Delhi from Jai Auto and got it registered myself at Haldwani I would have saved a further 30K and then the OTR would have been around 18.1L. Kindly note that registration in Uttaranchal is only 2.5% of the invoice value (which was 17.3L for me). Discount was in the figure of 1.7L from Jai Auto. Form 21 states the Make of vehicle as February 2012.

Now the quote you have been getting is presumably post excise duty hike where the base price has been increased to the tune of about 1 to 1.5L. Plus the discounts have also been reduced to around 60 to 80K. Also the registration may be more in Chennai. If I would go out today to purchase the same model I would need to shell out around 20.5L in Uttaranchal after all discounts. Kindly also note that they have 'added' the Keyless Entry and Start/Stop Button feature in this model post excise duty hike to retain their customers.

Hope that clarifies your doubts.

Off note - The steering is much lighter, the turning radius is much tighter and maneuverability of the Superb is much better than the Fortuner. Also the front and rear sonar with on screen display is a real boon in the narrow lane I live in. The screen display is very accurate. The steering feel of the Fortuner is much heavier in comparison but then it is a much heavier SUV class vehicle. But I am really missing the accurate park assist screen with front sonars of my dear Falcon.

18.5!.

You gotta be doing something drastically different! All I've managed is a mere 13.1 kpl (:/). That, doing speeds of 80-100.
