It's a vehicle that you buy and own with your heart.
Well what will a typical 'VAN' driver know about a SUV? Not his fault, even the power upgrade would be too much for him to take :P

Had a talk with Fortune Motors, Nerul (Navi Mumbai).
As per him -
  • The Storme is launching in North India tomorrow (17th Oct)
  • Bookings are not being accepted in Mumbai / Navi Mumbai
  • No visibility on when the Storme will launch in this part of the country, though he anticipates it to be a month away
  • No idea of the variants / costs
  • Speculates again that it'll be between Safari and Aria
So much so for the wait ...

I am not booking a Safari to avoid suffering from the PPCD (post purchase cogitative disorder) syndrome and regret not having waited for the Storme ... but my patience elasticity is at it's peak and could snap any moment. GOD give me some patience!!!

Wait !

Don't get panic, we are in the same boat.

What I will suggest is save your money and make huge down payment whenever it launch in Mumbai/Pune, that's what I am going to do. Also we will be lucky to get a lot in which all the primary niggles will be sorted out (if there any.) It is obvious that current version will be available with huge offers and discounts however going for Storm will be smart decision considering overall refinement and fixing of all existing issues.

I know all the above smart talk is applicable only if Storm will be priced well. but...

Note: The sales executive I am in contact with told me that current Safari production is stopped and you have to choose one form there/company yard.

Thanks,
Vishal

I couldn't make it to the Pre launch today but had a word with the Sales executive,
As per her, the LX version will be around 10.5 lakhs ex showroom Delhi.
She had a little handbook which she showed me day before y'day when I had taken my Safari there for some repairs.
It's coming in 4 variants, LX,EX,VX & VX(p). Alloys start from VX onwards. The VX(p) has some extra options like electrically fold-able mirrors. They are accepting bookings as of now and delivery of the first lot will be within 10 days of the launch. Most of the bookings have been for the Bronze & black color.
People who book later will have to wait for around 30-45 days.

This sounds like sweet music to me!!

Saw the brochure ... good part is even the Lx comes with ABS/EBD.
Let's just hope they price is well. If the Storme gives me more bang for the buck in the budget of a Gx, then Storme it is!

4x4 only in VX? Come on Tata, You are marketing it as a "Real SUV" and providing 4x4 only in VX?
I think providing 4x4 as an option in all variants is the only way to take on the XUV and the Duster. If they are going to provide a 4x2 in 10L to 13L range and have a 4x4 in 13+ Lacs, I dont know who they will compete with?

The PDF does not show the centre console. Is the Audio a Single DIN or Double DIN. No Six Speed Gear Box, Light and Rain Sensor, Rear View Camera? Rear Disc welcome. Continuing to sell the strome and existing Safari is a bad move. I feel Tata has lost the plot completely. Expert for die hard fans, I don't see Stome going anywhere. With the 10 Lakh Segment heating up - XUV, Duster, upcoming Eco Sport which are generations ahead of strome, the entire strome exercise is a waste of time and resources. The Strome should have been launched five years back.

Tata should have started from scratch. They already had the Aria platform as the Base. Give it a new SUV Design (could have used some help from range rover), plonk the safari 4x4. Discontinue the current Safari, price it from around 8 Lakhs for 2 WD Version. And I wonder when they are going to do price corrections for the Aria.

this is contrary to the scoop info we got from other members who had insider sources. for e.g base model LX was to have come at a very attractive sub-10lakh price. also Lx was not supposed to have ABS and LXa was to have ABS.

am totally confused. But if 10.5lakhs ex showroom for LX in Delhi is true, at Chennai prices would be close to 10.7lakhs making it overshoot my budget big time.

will have to go back to Duster Vs Scorpio

@Sarvodaya - the center console is visible in some pics on the website. it looks like a single din el-cheapo audio system

You are correct the website they say LX,LXA,EX,VX and VXP whereas their e brochure does not mention the same. As per the website the LX does not come with ABS, LXA and above have them.

I thing they want to price LX at an very attractive price that is usually advertised. - This is just my speculation will have to wait till tomorrow for official news.
