Hey Frank,

The headlights look awesome and the cutoff is fantastic

I can feel the heartache when you have to throw out the OE headlights. But the final result I guess should compensate for the pain.

Can you share some more details of the headlights?

1. Are these from Eagle Eyes that come with halogen projectors?
2. Have you changed both low and high beams to HIDs?
3. Do the DRLs turn amber when you turn on the indicator?
4. Were you able to salvage the Morimoto FX-R projectors from the headlights?

Thanks for the kind words. I still cringe at the thought of throwing away OE equipment but I can't do anything about it now.
The final results are WAY better than they look in photos. The magical cut-off and the rainbow effect are so distinct and so clear that it actually makes be super happy to drive at night with these.

Answers:
1. These are Eagle Eyes, the genuine ones with the warranty. NOT replicas. These comes with DUAL projectors. One for the low beam, and one for the high beam.
2. The low beams have HIDs and the high beam has my original Osram Night Breaker Unlimited, since both slots house H7 lights.
3. The DRLs are of one colour. They don't change any colour, but there is a strip of Amber LEDs that light up when you switch the turn signal on. See photos. I can upload a small video if you want.
4. The Morimoto Projectors and the D2S setup are happily seated here and are doing a STELLAR JOB because the retrofit was done PERFECTLY under my supervision in Mumbai itself:

Congrats on the install Frank! I assume these are the Lumen Systems Eagle Eyes. Your GT is the exact version of how I would like my GT to be, Audiophile equipment aside. Now to wait for saving enough Vitamin M
I assume these were plug & play as well?
I just had another idea, what do you think about the potential for retrofitting the new 2016 Vento's LED headlamps? Now wouldn't that be sweet?

The Vento's LED headlamps might not be a direct fit (changes to wiring harness, maybe) but I am sure people who want to get them installed will manage some way to do.
The Golden question here is, ARE LED HEADLIGHTS READY FOR PRIME TIME?
I don't think so! Initial reviews say that LED-Projector Combination has more or less the same light output and spread as an HID-Projector Combination.
There's a lot of potential in LED lights as Automotive Lamps, but the technology is still in quite an amateur stage, and for me HID + Projector Combination still stands as the ultimate car lighting, as of today.

Hi Frank, I have a question. Since the polo doesn't come with DRLs.
Should you switch on the parking lights, so that the DRLs are on ? ( I am assuming the DRLs are a replacement for the parking lights)

Yes.. I haven't wired these as drls. I wanted to keep them as parking lights because these are aftermarket lights after all and I don't want to risk blowing one of the leds inside due to excessive usage or heat, since replacing them will be nigh impossible.

The headlights cost Rs. 23000 and the morimoto h7 kit cost 11k.

Hi Frank,

About the auto headlights with sensors: Was it a DIY job or did you get someone to install it?

How has it been so far, are you happy with the end result?

Thanks

Auto headlight sensor and switch was a DIY job. I only used my installer's help to locate the control box inside the dash.

Hello frankmehta,

For the Indicator Celebration to work, did you have to modify any other setting other than the VCDS tweak? I bought my car two months before you did, so hoping the steps will be the same.

Hi Srinivas,

Cluster staging is just VCDS setting. It is available under Instruments -> Adaptation setting.

Thanks graaja. I got it to work this afternoon. The feature works when the key is inserted and then the ignition is turned ON. It does not work if you turn the ignition OFF and back ON. Is this expected?

Cheers,
Srinivas

Yes. Cluster staging happens only when you insert the key and turn on the ignition. If you turn off,, but do not remove the key, cluster staging does not happen.

Also, managed to get Torque working on the Android Head Unit. A photo and a video!

Dear Frank Sir,

Greetings!

I am looking forward to buy a universal 2 din Android 4.4.4 head-unit from the same seller you have bought.

My basic needs are to run torque and audio in the same unit.

I have a few queries regarding the product, would be thankful if you can help me out:-

1. While running torque can i play music in background?
2. Is there a provision of connecting a sub-woofer and an amplifier?
3. How is the audio quality, as compared to quality we have in our head-units?
4. How is the processing of the unit, if multiple apps are running together?

Thanks in advance.

Regards

Yes, you can play music while running Torque.

Sub Out and AUX OUT is available.

Audio quality is matching the OEM unit..but you may need to use player like poweramp. For FM, I would say 90% when compare to OEM unit.

I never tested more than 3 apps.. Music, Torque and Maps. Performance is fine.
