Thanks Raghavendra! I run a small business which allows/warrants me to travel extensively. Whenever time permits, I prefer to drive rather than fly to the destination, whatever be the distance.

Moreover this is the only vehicle that I own. So commute, business travel, leisure trips all happen in this. Ride quality is definitely bumpy but I am in such awe of this truck that it makes me forget all negatives about it

On a serious note, the positives do outweigh the negatives. I take it on long highway drives, short city drives, off-roading, long drive + off-roading. I don't think there exists any other truck to meet all my requirements! So all in all simply loving it.

I am still living in BARC, thanks to my Dad. I finished school in 2001 from AECS - 4 and then two years with AEJC. This is different world altogether man. Anyone who has not been inside won't believe this place is in Mumbai!

Leaving you a recent picture which I captured from my home. Cheers!

Thumbs up Update: 55,000 km Service

55,000 kms Service Update:

An impulsive trip to Mumbai - Leh worked out recently. The truck completed 55,000 kms enroute and was given to MGF Toyota, Gurugram for the check-up service before the drives into hills began.

Highlights of the Service:
Date: 24 June 2017, 8:30AM
Service Center Visit No: 15
Type of service: Regular Checkup
ODO: 55,603 km
Dealership: MGF Toyota, Gurugram
Delivery Date: 24 June 2017, 11AM
Total Amount Paid: Rs. 5,550/- out of which wipers cost about Rs. 3,400/-
Parts Replaced: Front wiper blades, Brake pads checkup
My Rating: 10/10

Note: There was some noise coming from underbody during initial start and acceleration. This was due to insulation material rubbing against the silencer. The insulator was bent back in shape and the noise went away.

With all vitals, fluid levels etc checked, I continued the drive to Leh. There was a suspension issue at 58,000 km and was repaired at Ansari Toyota, Srinagar. This was after completing all Leh circuits. I will cover this in the next post.

Current ODO stands at 59,000 kms and will complete 60,000 kms in this week as I will start Gurugram - Mumbai drive in couple of days.

Man, I am in awe of the sheer number of kilometres you're doing on the Fortuner.
Any alignment issues till now?
Have you considered a suspension upgrade to ARB or ironman?
Any off roading pictures?

I sincerely hope a travelogue is in the Assembly Line. I will wait for it

Have you changed your tires? Or are planning to change them? At 60,000 kms and with this heavy monsoon, I am sure a change would be impending.

And I am in awe of this truck! Loving it. Living it! Front right shocker broke down during my trip to Ladakh near Pangong lake. Was taken to Srinagar for replacement. I do want to upgrade to ARB or Ironman and will be doing it once the truck is out of warranty or if the suspension troubles me again. There was an alignment issue at 50,000 kms and was sorted during the service.

Yes. They look good for another 10,000 kms. Although less than 2 years old so not bored but I have started exploring options.

Lovely snap there Sheel! And awesome ownership thread you've got there for the Explorer!

My hometown is quite close to your location. Hope to bring the Fort there someday for some joint "exploration"!

Thanks princey. Fortuner was wonderful throughout except for a broken suspension which was repaired by Toyota within 4 hours! Travelogue might take time as it would be my first one on TBHP

Default Update: Broken Suspension and 60,000 km Service

Furteela reached Leh and did all the circuits around very comfortably.

About 4,000 kms into the trip and at remote location near Pangong Lake, the driver side front suspension broke without any warning.

Broken shock absorber
One year with the Toyota Fortuner 4x4 AT : My Furteela Ghonga-img_4665.jpg

We somehow managed to bring it back to Leh only to realise that the sole Toyota dealership there hadn't opened shop for the past two days.

We asked around and found out that there were only a handful Fortuners in the city and that the suspension part was unlikely to be available with the dealer. All Innova taxi drivers suggested that we head to Srinagar to get the truck fixed. I called up Ansari Toyota, Srinagar and they confirmed that they had the part in stock. So I headed to Srinagar next day and reached late at night crossing the mighty Zoji La at 9PM with a broken suspension!

Zoji La Pass at 9PM with a broken suspension! What an adventure!
One year with the Toyota Fortuner 4x4 AT : My Furteela Ghonga-img_4755.jpg

I was the first person at the dealership next morning and my truck was promptly attended to. I was disappointed to learn from the warranty manager that the part would not be covered under warranty. I agreed to pay for the repairs from my pocket and decided to take up the matter with Toyota once I was back in Mumbai.

Ansari Toyota, Srinagar
One year with the Toyota Fortuner 4x4 AT : My Furteela Ghonga-img_4761.jpg

The truck was repaired in about 6 hours with two men working on it. I was at the service bay the entire duration of the repair. I asked them to also change the front brake pads as it had worn out almost completely.

It was more complicated than I thought

Default Update: 65,000 and 70,000 km Service

Furteela has been munching some good miles recently. Recent trips include:
  1. Mumbai - Spiti
  2. Mumbai - Gokarna
  3. Mumbai - Dharwad
  4. Mumbai - Mahabaleshwar - Belgaum
  5. Weekly Mumbai - Pune run

The truck went in for an early service before the Spiti drive even though the ODO read 63,300 kms. One issue reported was steering wobble at high speed braking. Did some research and found that skimming the disc will sort that out. So got that done during the service and the issue was gone.

Highlights of the Service:
Date: 7 August 2017, 11:30AM
Service Center Visit No: 19
Type of service: Regular Checkup
ODO: 63,300 km
Dealership: Lakozy Toyota, Andheri, Mumbai
Delivery Date: 7 August 2017, 5 PM
Total Amount Paid: Rs. 3,354/- out of which disc skimming and cleaning cost about Rs. 1,900/-
Parts Replaced/Repaired: Brake disc skimming and pads cleaning
My Rating: 10/10

Default Re: One year with the Toyota Fortuner 4x4 AT : My Furteela Ghonga

Post just to update this thread. Furteela has been happily munching miles without any niggles or issues. Some updates that I have planned for the near future:
  1. Tires
  2. ARB suspension kit
  3. ARB underbody protection
  4. Extended warranty - Done

Tires
I am looking to source BFGoodrich All Terrain T/A KO2 from US or Dubai. Link. Second preference being Yokohama Geolandar A/T G015. Will update this thread on the progress.

ARB Suspension Kit
I test drove a setup in Gurgaon and instantly fell in love with that thing. Will be getting them as soon as I change the tires. ARB underbody protection shall also be installed.

Reference Pictures
Name: ARB UVP.jpg
Views: 321
Size: 12.5 KB

Name: UVP2.jpg
Views: 323
Size: 21.5 KB

Extended Warranty
I have opted for Toyota Extended Warranty which now covers the truck with same conditions as new vehicle for upto 5 years or 1,80,000 kms.

More updates coming soon. For now, here are some pictures for your viewing pleasure.
