Just saw the Overdrive test of the Palio Stile. It does a 0 - 100 in..................20.xx seconds!!!!! Come on, even the diesel Indica turbo is faster.

This car is seriously SLOW! Sure, I can understand build quality and all that.....but it sure is not getting anywhere soon enough.

Overdrive quotes the Indica Turbo at 17.7 secs. The Indica Xeta is also in the 17.xx range. The Stile should be more in Indica NA territory.

Well i knew it will be slower but not 20 secs. I thought it will be in category of 17 secs myself. Well we can't expect a 54BHP engine working its like 100BHP one

You are knocking wrong door, guys!

If you are so concerned about performance and 0-100, look at 1.6 and not 1.1. I am sure, it will keep most of you happy and others envious ;-)

Each car has its purpose. I would be disappointed with 1.1 if it doesn't deliver better FE than Santro/Wagon-R/Indica, which is what it is supposed to do. Drag racing at traffic lights should be best left to 1.6.

WOW now that's a bit too slow!! I always thought that with the 1.1 it would be slightly slower to Santro/WagonR etc. But never thought it would be in Indica Diesel NA territory. Methinks Fiat overcorrected a bit too much for their FE gains.

Well RX....no one is looking at outright performance from a 1.1. But what we are looking for is acceptable performance. And a 20 second time to the 100 dash is dismal for a mid-size petrol hatch. The Palio is no Alto. And as already outlined, even the Indica Turbo diesel beats it to the 100. Some reviewers have already written on Team-BHP how lethargic the 1.1 was to drive; and that is a part of daily driveability.

I honestly doubt it. The 1.1 will be a tad stressed to move that heavy body.

Wrong door.
Well if 1.1 gives significantly better FE than the competition you can accept 20 seconds. Otherwise a its a lame attempt to say "We too We too".
Nothing much to debate here, the flop show will show itself as dismal sales in a couple of months.

Well, it's intended to be a flop show. Didn't you see the thread containing a press report quoting Tata officials as saying that the sales target for Palio and Adventure for 2007-08 is 3000 units ! Looks like it will be Tata and not FIAT India management that'll take the credit for putting the final nail in Palio's coffin.

Indica Diesel or Petrol ? I can understand Santro and Wagon R , but even if the Palio 1.1 gives the same FE figures like the Indica D - well the Indica sips diesel and the palio - petrol....then ?

The biggest (or only?) benefitiary of FIAT-TATA aliance is going to be TATA. Saw an ad in papers in Mumbai where they had advertised Stile 1.1 along with Xeta. Price diff was large (Xeta less than 40K?) with Xeta specs much better. After reading that ad who will choose Stile 1.1? It seems Punto with JTD will not come before 1st quarter of 2008, ditto for JTD in Palio. Read on PUG that Tata dealers are saying that JTD is being tested in Indiaca!! With JTD in Indica will kill SwiftD ( and obviously Palio).
So FIAT will be reduced to JTD supplier in India and TATA catching up with Maruti.

Fiats fate in india could be compared to midas. By 2009 almost all vehicles will be using fiat technology to run their automobiles. But fiat wont benefit from it.

Dont forget to learn about nissan s' plan to launch new car which is actually a fiat 500.
