NHC but only if its shorter then the baleno and from its looks it is
can any one clarify
Here are the statistics on that.

Baleno :
Lenght - 4225mm
Width - 1690mm
Height - 1390mm

NHC :
Lenght - 4310mm
Width - 1695mm
Height - 1495mm

The NHC is longer 3.34 inches. Question is, does that make a big diff?

if its modded with just the right amount of kit and wheels...man the baleno can look deadly...we have an example in bombay a black baleno with body kit and hot wheels.

i've recently (Nov 2005) picked up a used 2000 edition baleno done 60000 kms with 185/70 goodyear tyres, stock steel rims and the stock kenwood system with a 10 cd changer for 2.9Lacs... went onto the mumbai pune expressway and... reached 190kmph... yes 190... she took the curves easily at 160 (i didnt hav the ballz to push harder and make her tail slide at that speed)... and i fell in love with her... will be changing my rimz n rubber soon and putting in a good system... the baleno cant be compared with the city or accent performance wise she's way ahead... she does 100km/hr in 2nd gear at 5500rpm... if you guys want performance.. buy the baleno without hesitating...

What are the performance mods on the car. Stock Baleno can't go beyond 175.

Erm, are you sure? I think it will be slightly above 6000 rpm actually.

Samurai, a stock Baleno should do 185 (true speed). What the driver does, and what the speedo says, are very different things.

185 kmph per ACI and 173 kmph per the overdrive...175 kmph per the Maruti Manual...take your pick..(I did touch a speed indicated 177 kmph once but lifted off after that since I had 3 persons in the car along with my 3 yo daughter)
Samurai..you have shifted to 195/60 so wont your top speed go down a bit???

Is yours the BS III model? Mine is BS II and I'm pretty sure it says 185, which is only 10 kmph less than a Corolla.

Today the Baleno is excellent VFM and a great allrounder. The only car which beats a Baleno is the Petra (if you leave ASS aside). If you include ASS then the Baleno is unbeatable. For 60-70k more than a Petra you will get an extra year warranty (2 vs 1), a slightly bigger car, similar performance and complete peace of mind. The only area which it lacks is build. In fact, I am seriously thinking of selling my S10 and going for the Baleno.

Out here,
Petra 1.6 ELX OTR 6.0 L (Allowing for 15 K discount + Free CD/MP3 audio).
Baleno VXi - I paid 6.76 L OTR
Additional stuff compared to Petra.
Climate Control, Seat covers, 185 Goodyear rubber, subwoofer, 2 yrs extn warranty - so total 4 yr warranty
So feature vs price you pay, they are fairly equal.

However, as you said, it's slightly bigger and the peace of mind factor.
My 2 cents, try to keep the S10 AND get a Baleno

In Mumbai, the Petra is way cheaper(its mfd here) and I was comparing it with the LXi. Thanx and again no thanx for your advice on keeping both cars. The reason being I am a hum do hamara ek family and have enough trouble with parking one car in my society which has some weird homosapiens who throw all kinds of sh** on the car out of jealousy. Would have gladly kept both if i could. I would definitely miss the free revving 1.6 DOHC of the Palio.

I am not sure about manual, but Baleno brochure does say its top speed as 175 kmph. I have pdf version of it, which I had downloaded when I was about to buy a Baleno :-)
