My brother-in-law wanted an upgrade. We TDed the automatic Vitara on 27th alongwith a few other automatic cars (since an automatic was the criteria).

In short we loved the drive. Paid the money on 31st and got the delivery on 1st. Great car and my bro-in-law loves it. Will keep you guys updated once I can get hold of the mileage figures from him. I am sure a M/T would be more frugal so you'd be able to do your maths.

regards

You almost scared me, thinking you beat me to become the first GV owner on Team-BHP. But then it belongs to your B-I-L, I guess he is not a member here. I just brought home the GV MT today. The report will follow tomorrow in a new thread.

Congratulations Samurai san! Even if I had got it, I wouldnt have told you as I certainly wouldnt have the heart to deprive you of the pleasure to claim the 1st GV on this forum. and BTW, nope my BIL isnt a member so you are the official proud 1st owner.

However I still have a couple of yrs to go until 40 so I guess I'd have to wait and save me coins so that I am able to afford it (or one of its generation) when I do hit 40! Until then Iam happy waiting for that certain elusive SUV from M&M which should have hit the market by now!

Wishing you a happy and hasslefree ownership.

regards

Default Test Drive of GV and Safari

Hello All,
I test drove a Grand Vitara, Safari.

My small conclusions on the suvs..

Grand Vitara:(test drove the automatic one, as he had only that one)
Felt very good. the drive was very smooth, did not feel was in a suv. we did some very bad roads in nandini layout in bangalore.(mini off roading types), it handled neatly. the ring road drive was very good.. went upto 140 and then had to break suddenly as there was a huge speed breaker.
the rear seat is quite comfortable. the leg room is pretty good for 3 full sized people.
all in all was very good but 16.8 on road is a bit too much i guess. i guess a prize around 13-14 would have been a killer !!!

Safari:(the high end 2.2 VTT)
this was first time driving a diesel engine. immediately could feel the difference. one thing is this is a huge huge vehicle.
at 1500 rpm VTT kicks in and also the loud noise. felt a little uneasy on the gears especially the 1st gear... never got that right most of the times. there seems too much of ac ducts in the car. i did not like the drive. there were some vibrations at 80-90 speed itself. at higher speed it seemed ok.
but at the end of 20 kms td, i felt it was a little strenuous.

Anyway, we were supposed to TD the endeavor also, but that was too long to fit in the garage. so was ruled out.

most probable the choice will be the Grand Vitara.

thanks.

Good to read your report Madhukar, you will find the MT more responsive than AT.

Here is the Euro NCAP report on GV: Euro NCAP - Small Off Roaders (4x4)

PS: Sorry, I forgot to open the thread after moving your post here.

yes first time in any kind of diesel car(driving)..
i have travelled as a passenger in qualis.

the main thing is the gear shift and acceleration. in city limits i guess we cannot go beyond 3rd gear. it was very uncomfortable to me at least.

anyway, either case it is being bought by brother-in-law and he would be driving it. safari was not in his list for TDs, but got it included. i have told him what i have felt
