Default Test Driven : San Storm

Ok guys following up on the invite for the San Storm I went for test drive. Had GTO accompany me for it so we were partners in crime. Reached the dealership at bout say 1 pm and as usual the sales guy gave us some crap on it. He didnt know what he was talking.

He then took us to the car. There were 2 of em a red and a yellow. Gave us a crash course on the specs and told us that 87 cars had been sold in Mumbai..sheesh *

We first checked the car inside out and soon saw what quality it had . The paint job was pathetic with bubbles in the paint. There was nothing like fit and finish. Panel gaps were so huge an entire car could pass through it..

Every component of the car had been lifted from some car or the other.... power window switches from the Ikon, a/c front panel from Uno, light and wiper switch from Esteem, Steering from Opel , gear knob etc from the Palio, and what not...

Ok then we finally got going with GTO taking the wheel , I was beside him with the driver behind. The roof was bad. Like GTO said his Jeep's roof which was made at a *normal mochi or cobbler guy as we know is light years ahead.

Driving to seaface got us to more bout the car. The whole damn thing rattles ... thats something for a new car. Once we reached seaface we tried to start ripping but we couldnt. The engine is not responsive at all and the gearbox notchy. GTO had a tough time shifting into 3rd or 5th while I was confused between 2nd and 4th.

We both took our respective spins burning in the sun. ( The guy had us driving it with the roof down in 2 o clock heat )

Finally we got the roof fixed for our trip back to the dealer with the a/c on of course which was the only good part of the car.

Didnt even bother to speak to the sales guy again. We just left of course with the sad news that the Palio 1.6 GTX is no more.

On an ending note I feel even my Zen AT would kill this thing..

Well thats the report now here are the pictures from the afternoon.

Here is the centre console.. Note the parts from other cars

The door panel.. poor finishing on the inside

The rubber near the windows

Here is the door panel . NMote the huge gap and also the indicators from the Zen

The Steering

GTO with the San

Me with the San.. giving it a thumbs down hehe

The dials during GTOs drive

Is the sales guys sitting in the backseat and crying. You guys must have made his life hell in the afternoon, what with the sun burning down on him too. Literally in the hot seat.

There were rave reviews of this car with auto mag blokes taking them for drives to goa and stuff. Everyone was praising this car like they would put down their money and get one for themselves the next day.
Doubt the credibility of these mags now. No one told us there was paint dripping down and lousy engine and gear box.
What began as a great idea has trickled down to a poor excuse for India's first convertible.
