Yes sure I am not a technical person so I can only explain in leighman terms -

The i10 is a good overall package and a fresh new car BUT in terms of Acceleration, Braking, Overall Grip of the car - it just fails to impress you - I mean everything is OK but something lacks somewhere !!

When I TD'ed the i10 - I sat in my 4 yr - 50k kms old Santro Xing - I thought my old car drove better !!!!

The Getz 1.1 on the other hand is a very FUN vehicle to drive - you do not get bored driving it - I hope I am making sense !!

If not then please go and TD an i10 yourself and judge the car.

I say this again - the i10 is a very good overall package at a good price - the vehicle will probably click in terms of sales BUT I just did not find the vehicle exciting to drive. I mean when you buy a new vehicle ( even if it is only 4 lacs ) you expect to be a little exciting.

Remember driving the 1.2 Palio & Zen & Santro ERLX - All these vehicles were good to drive.

Maybe some Senior persons here might be able to explain what I mean - If not then there might just be something wrong with the TD vehicle I drove.

Cheers !! Varun

Xing is already a nice car. I understand that statement really well.

In fact, this is what confuses me. How is a Getz 1.1 fun to drive!

You are right. But, we had a late launch here. It was launched yesterday evening only. (high profile launch with elephants and all)

Buy it and find out! The i10 does not need a sales pitch. The Getz 1.1 does.

OT: Actually, i would like to upgrade next year. After i enter a job (if), but it wont be a 1.1 (My wagonR is 1.1, why do i need another one?). Getz 1.5 CRDi with 110 bhp sounds the right choice, and they'll reduce the price by next year.

i10 would offer a nice choice for the young city couples, who would want small/pocket friendly hatch that can stand upto the bigger cars in features/interiors.

If this happens, we will have a Swift Diesel beater , Amen

When I say Getz 1.1 is fun to drive I do not mean it gives you mind boggling performance - it is a good car to drive, you enjoy driving it unlike the i10 which is plain boring !!!

Enough said now, Waiting for your comments now after you have TD'ed one

Default i10 TD: my impressions

Got to TD the i10 yesterday, and my first impressions are:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Interiors
Pros:
(1) Very nice and refreshing interiors. Car seems roomier than it is
(2) The gear shift is well placed. Dash integration doesnt affect the
throw at all.
(3) Seat well designed. Felt better than my Santro seat
(4) All round visibility is very good (already mentioned by vkochar)
(5) Boot is deep
(6) Tilt steering is a very useful feature
Cons:
(1) No foot rest, which was standard in the Santro
(2) The beige finish might not be to everyone's taste

Exteriors
Cons:
(1) headlight is 'froggy', popping out of the car! (something mentioned
by a lot of t-bhpians!)

Engine and Drive
Pros:
(1) They have tweaked the engine to make it super silent (not just
better damping!)
(2) Seems less zippier than the Santro, but torque seemed more even distributed
(3) Gear is more 'solid'. Of course it was a new vehicle I was driving,
but somehow felt the gears to solidly slot into positions. My feeling is
it is not going to be the butter-smooth shift of the Santro, but
nevertheless solid
(4) Steering feels good, lighter than Santro. (couldn't test on high speeds)
(4) The suspension felt rock-solid
(5) Tubeless tyres are standard
Cons:
(1) Braking didn't seem as good as the Santro. Brakes are very good -
just that I always feel the Santro's braking is amazing!
(2) Thanks to the re-jigged suspension/changed tyre profile, the ride
was slightly bumpier. I think a different tyre size (current is
155/80R13) might be needed for a smooth drive

Engineering
(1) 32-bit microprocessor

Default i10 Test Drive

I took a test drive of i10 Magna yesterday. The first thing that impresses is the build quality. Here is my impression of i10 -
  • Car feels modern and appealing.
  • The tinny feeling that you get in Santro is not there in i10. The car has a solid presence.
  • The interiors are really upmarket and makes Santro appear as under-nourished distant sibling. Even Swift is no match here.
  • Seats are supportive and and have really good feel and support.
  • There is extra legroom and width in comparison to Santro. Having said that I found it a little inconvenient sitting in back as the space below the front seat is little where you may slip under your feet. The bottom end of front seat hits at your ankles but knees are OK.
  • Era is not having back seat head rest which gives a bench like feeling and people may find it inconvenient.
  • Dashboard is quite good with warning lights.
  • Grear lever is precise but has a clunky feeling like what you have in Honda City.
  • Gear position is not inconvenient. It is very much in reach even from farthest driving seat position.
  • Boot space is less than Santro. The saleguy told me that the boot space is 5 cm more than Santro. But I strongly felt that you cannot have big suitcases lying flat in boot as is possible in Santro. The extra cms may have gone in width. Overall boot capacity is less than Santro. It appears that they have used some of boot space in providing extra legroom.
Driving experience:
  • The engine started without any fuss. It is very refine and silent.
  • With four people onboard it pulled neatly.
  • AC seems OK and does not bog down engine.
  • Ride quality is certainly better than Santro.
  • Low end torque is in abundance. Was able to drive in 5th gear at 40 kmph with AC on. Engine was hovering around 1000-1500 rpm or so. If driven sedately, this car should return great mileage.
  • Engine is adequate but not a sprinter. Lack of horses can be felt when car is pushed.
  • I found brakes OK. Did not do any brake testing so won't comment on vehicle stability on hard braking.
  • Power steering is responsive with good feedback (unlike EPS in Alto etc. where steering feels disconnected from wheels).

Similar thoughts here. On return back I found my 7 year old 85K+ Santro with 55 bhp, 999cc engine quite similar in terms of engine response. I would have really loved to have this car with 80+ bhp engine. I heard that it might happen in future/couple of months. So keeping my fingers crossed.

To conclude; am I actually going for i10?? Hmmm ... tough to answer. The car is very good but for an engine which could have done better with couple of more horses. I may get my car re-painted and use it for another year or so. Till then hopefully we would have more options available. Let's see how things turn up but one thing is for sure ... it is going to give heart-burn to Maruti and other small car players

Great move Hyundai ...

I went to Sanjay Hyundai showroom to take the test drive of this car. The test drive hadn't started yet so I couldn't get the drive the car but the car was on dispaly in the showroom. The models on display were Era and Magnum. Here is my opinion on this car:

Looks : Car looks much better and bigger in pics then in reality. The car still looks good but not as good as I found it on paper. The front head lamps definitely look bit odd.

Interiors : Interiors of this car are definitely the best in its segement and also the segement above it. The plastics and trims were of good quality and the fit and finish was very very good for a car of this segement. But again interiors don't look as appealing in reality as they seems in photographs. Moreover, the plastics and trim level used are different in each varient. The integrated music system which looks so good in photos is only available in the top varient i.e Magna(O).

I found the front seats very comfortable but the leg and shoulder room in the rear is not great. Its very similar to Santro.
Overall, sitting comfort in this car is good and much better then estilo. Boot space is just 5 cc more then santro.

I checked about the Auto transmission variant and dealer said that there is automatic variant available in Era and Magnum but they will be available only on booking. I found it bit strange...

regarding competing with santro, they mentioned that company has now stopped all the previous variants of Santro(XK,XL, XO, etc) and now have launched two fresh variants(GS and GLS). So, now there will only be two variant availble in Santro both will be with AC and power steering. Base variant costs abt 3.5 lacs on road in pune and fully loaded top variant will cost about 3.90 lacs which is aprox. the same as i10 ERA. So, i10 will be priced exactly between Santro and getz.

Overall, I found i10 a good looking car with very good interiors but its not as smart as i thought initially. There is no comparison with getz in terms of space and comfort. getz is far more spacious then this one so at the moment it looks like to me slightly overpriced but I am still waiting for the test drive to check about the engine and its overall performance.

Default News from kerala

test drove the first i10 on Saturday, at MGF hyundai Alleppy for a brief 5 mins...was too good..but couldnt really rip it or try ay stunts...The steering felt a bit too much powered...felt like driving a wagonR...wanted to try more..but the car didnt have RTO approval to take it on the road...

Got to drive the i10 at trivandrum today, thanks to Hilton Hyundai...It was the yellow, Magna with no ABS, Airbags and Sunroof...I guess this would be the most popular of the i10s...I have nothing more to add than the things already mentioned by others...Few things though..

Me and 2 others of my size (we are talking XXL here), could seat comfortably at the rear of the car and a 6foot guy was driving it...

The ac on/off didnt make any difference
The 3 of us were seated comfortably at the rear, for a small car
It pulled quite well
ac was to good
enuf leg/shoulder room at front and rear
the tilt steering is a boon
the interior looks very upmarket and is a welcome change from the normally seen plastics...

finally have the price...the Magna without the option pack would cost 4.40lacs on road in Trivandrum with an years extended warranty..and Hilton promises delivery in 10 days...

Exciting days ahead... wil post the price for all variants tomorrow...

No internal boot release switch in any version. The boot can only be opened from the outside. I guess Hyundai overlooked this one.

any comments on the FE/average of the i10 ??

Has anyone bought it and verified the same, as per the conversation with the sales guy in Delhi. He maintains that the average of the car will be good as there are some improvements in the fuel flow and some sensors are installed to remove the flow of fuel back to the oil tank.

Without taking all this as granted i feel, FE will be better as it has better engine or engine performance w.r.t kerb weight as compared to santro ??

any comment guys ???

my 2 cents worth!
the front and back of the car seem to be a bit disconnected to the sides - the front and back look good and contemporary but the sides look transplanted from the Santro. May be the door handles!
Havent seen the car in flesh, but this is just based on the photos.

No internal boot release BUT not necessary for driver to handover the keys, it can be opened just like the getz so should be OK with buyers.
