OK, let me rephrase that. The gearshift in our Swift-P is crappy (as in not being precise & buttersmooth), though better than my Baleno. I assumed that it would be a common Swift thing - maybe ours is a one-off case.

I was speaking from general experience with Maruti cars for more than 2 decades and I don't think the ones I used (M800, Baleno, Swift) can by any stretch of imagination be called as butter-smooth gear shifts. For certain gears, slotting into place itself is a big deal.

thanks for this nice review, as being a palio fan my self i was dying to read some thing after i saw the first pics in news paper. new front grill looks awesome & add to that tank like build quality, there is a winner. interiors are obviously disappointing

You need to drive a zen, man..one of the slickest gearboxes in business. BTW, have you got a new swift (P) ?

OT: lemme join in the fray and bring in another oldie (a distant cousin of Fiat, twice removed) - the venerable Premier 118NE.

PS: Sorry Kpzen - but I just couldnt let that slide by.

yeah i have driven zen a lot and it has pretty good gearbox but there is something weird about the maruti gearboxes ..... i don't know how to explain but they feel pretty dead to me ..... again this is personal opinion someone might like swift box over palio ..... palio has long throw where swift is pretty short ......

Hey jyobeb what is the waiting period quoted by the dealer and what difference you found out between Palio MJD and Getz CRDI TD that made you to book Palio 1.3 SDX?

The Getz was just too powerful without adequate safety features. It truly is a monster and handling is not as good as the Palio. The other reason is that my friend who drives his Getz CRDI very carefully inside town has got only 12 kmpl over 4 tankfulls.
My dealer has told me 21 days for delivery.

I passed that way couple of weeks back, and the the show room near wytefort was walled up with BMW hoardings. There was news in the "exotics spotted in Kerala" thread that Koyenco is going in for BMW dealership, but that thread also mentioned that Koyenco will be using their facility near Popular Hyundai (other side of the Vytilla junction on NH Byepass).

In Chandigarh top model SDx in Red was readily available within 2 days. Rest depending upon the color and model it was 2 weeks waiting and 20-25K minimum booking amount.
