Indeed, its a pretty impressive package there!

Is the guy sitting on the rear seat a little short of leg room? Or is just me?

When i saw the first few pics of Dzire i was like.
Now after seeing some more pics of it I guess
I am kind of ok with the looks. So to the people
who are against its looks ...keep looking at it
and you ll soon digest it ..

Coming to the engine, the car comes with two engine variants, one the 1.3L G13BB of the Swift Petrol, which is a tad disappointing again. It doesnot want to move on low revvs and needs to be revved hard to extract the best out of the powerplant, i was seriosuly hoping MSIL would give the M Series engine here but i dont know what the guys at Maruti are smoking, i mean common you cant expect a car with 113NM torque to pull a 1100kg car with ease. On the other hand, the diesel DZire is a gem, with 193NM torque, the car pulls like a locomotive on rails. Its slightly slower then the hatch but thats almost negligible. The DZire just weighs 30kgs more then the Swift hatch. The diesel engine will be the one which will be having the most sales and i wont be suprised if Maruti have a long waiting period for the diesel variant. Expect FE to be similar as the hatch, ~14 in City, ~19 on the highway.

The Braking was very good, similar to the hatch but the handling is slightly on the negative side compared to the hatch. I think a prospective buyer will be comparing the DZire not with the Swift hatch but with cars in its segment like the Indigo, etc & thats where the Swift DZire has a slight edge in terms of A.S.S, VFM, Engine, Fuel Efficiency. The quality of the car is yet to be seen, Swift's are prone to rattle earlier on in life and hopefully Maruti should have sorted the rattling issues with the DZire. The car has 440litres of boot space, which is adequate for a car of this class. There are four varaints LXi, VXi, ZXi and ZDi. The latter two are fantastic value for money with loads of features like ABS, Dual Airbags, Alloys, Climate Control, Music System, Audio Controls on Steering Wheel, etc and priced around 50k more then the Swift hatch.

As a replacement for the Esteem the DZire is fantastic, but would i put my money on it, if i was looking for a car in that segment, certainly not, it looks too ugly for my tastes and ill wait till the look of the car grows on me, then maybe i might convince myself to buy one, but at the moment i wouldnot want myself to be seen in something which looks that out of shape

Given the 'different' kind of looks of the Swift, I was sure that adding a boot would make it fugly. But the pictures look good. There are 2 pics in today's "The Hindu" and I find it pretty good. Suzuki seems to have got this one right, unlike the Estilo.

When Mahindra-Renault did the boot-job on their Logan, nobody complained. Now why Maruti?

Hi e1,
The DZire launch webcast update - The webcast is streaming live the launch party of DZire. The anchor first invited mayank pareek to address the gathering. This was followed by a live performance of DZire song by Palash sen and his band. The car was then unveiled by the MD.
Later while addressing the gathering he announced the pricing - 4.49 lacs for the base model - petrol version, and less than 7 lacs for the top diesel model. Very competitive

IIRC Logan was a proper Sedan, not a hatch converted into sedan!

And IMO Logan now looks million times better than DZire!

As they say, looks might be subjective, but to say that the Logan looks better than the Dzire is like hilarious. Anyway to each his own. The market will prove which is the better choice.

I think one reason why we find this car's looks OK is that the so-called spy-pics/PS-pics sucked so badly that we wrote this car off long ago, in the looks department. So there were no expectations at all riding on this car. And thus looks that are just so-so seem good when the car finally is released.

Can someone (Ram?) putout the prices for the various variants - lxi/vxi/zxi, ldi/vdi/zdi ? Ex-showroom and OTR (maybe only Delhi at the moment).

Any idea when the regular site (prices, brochures, comparisons, variants, features, specs, etc) is going to be launched ? Or is there one already that I missed ?
