hai crosscap - chill, I am fine with it, no point in feeling bad - I also learnt there is no insurance cover for this. So I will live with it till the day I should change it. By the way, did you get the FE numbers?

hey, at least someone else scratched your ride. i got mine scratched on either side by an auto and a scooter by myself when trying to squeeze in between them (they were parked) . Its bad when your ride gets scratched , but its worse when you're the one to blame. at least you dont have to live with it!

Hi Santosh,

I have to kick myself. Try it when it is cold. If you wait that extra 10 seconds it would start at half a crank. The regular way the cranking will be for 3 0r 4 seconds. The circuit is wired in a way that after the glow pug warning lamp goes off it works for another 10 seconds or so. But don't wait for more than 10 seconds.

The only times my Indica did not start with half a crank was when the glow plugs were out (replaced under warranty - lasted for a couple of years before they conked) and then when the battery failed (OE lasted 3 years).

I always wait for the light to go out and crank immediately.

Mine is a 2004 NA Indica and not the new ones.

Santosh,

It was sad to know your new car to b damaged.

Btw .. I guess for windshield it is 100% coverage by insurance.you may have to shell out about 600-900 bucks for some charges. (Your insurance agent should b abelt o tell u that) and a new windshield should cost about 6-7K.

I beleive vandalism is also covered under insurance. If it is not, u can always tell it as accident. i.e. coconut or some other har substance fell from above when u had parked your car. Or a protruding part from a lorry caused the damage. I know its not a honest but ...

Claiming insurance means u tend to lose your no claim bonus.

Well, can't blame Tata, since the battery has a separate warranty - it was Exide as OE and warranty was 1 year , so I was happy that it lasted 3. But now I am on Amaron, much much better.

But glow plugs yes, they were from Beru, lasted just 20K. Supposedly they are the best in India - at least according to their ads

QUOTE (from Beru India)
The reason BERU Glow Plugs are preferred by most
of the OEMs is due to its top performance, unique qualities and BERU's experience of the product.
Infact the Glow Plugs were invented by BERU!!!.

Anyway the current ones are doing good so far. Touchwood !

Nice thread and car you have there, svsantosh. Keep it coming !

Thats sad, I got the same shock when one guy scratched my new SX4 in the basement parking while reversing.

But I managed to get hold of him, and told him to pay for the damage

Hi indivic,

> But glow plugs yes, they were from Beru, lasted just 20K.

Mine lasted 33000kms (32991kms to be exact). I got a local mechanic to change it (4 heater plugs @363 each + labour charges @ 250 - on site service).

I never realised that they were covered under extended warranty until I happened to leaf through the booklet a few days later.

one suggested method:
if you have an accident or some damage is caused to your car, best to assess the cost of repairs/ spares first at the garage- take an estimate.
(obviously this depends on the type of car and its age/make/place in the world)
next see how much insurance premium you are anyway paying per annum to keep your car comprehensively insured
calculate the 20% No Claim Bonus on the Premium at the time of renewal - simply ring your insurance company and check how much you will be paying the next time you renew.
now see if the cost of repairing your car is more than the money you are saving via No Claim Bonus or not.
make your decision accordingly.

Invariably these days, the bills for repairs etc are much higher than they used to be, since they hardly do all the tinkering and painting like they used to on our old Ambys and Fiats etc - now its mostly a matter of changing the entire affected panel and painting it in case of body damage or changing the entire part itself in case of other damage - which certainly costs more money. Apart from that, if you go to a company garage (most of us do I am sure), the cost of labour and servicing etc will definitely be higher than say, at a local workshop.

In any case, lets also remember that the chances of these mishaps and unhappy occurrences are manifold nowadays owing to the vehicle population as well as number of irresponsible drivers/riders having increased exponentially.
Therefore, IMO, since one is paying such high premiums in general, to insure ones car, one may as well take the benefit one is paying for and claim for damages rather than worry too much about No Claim Bonus etc.

Scarlet Fever??? just kidding, get back on the road soon.. my wishes...

---Update---

At last after 1200Odd Kms I felt the new car is getting old, So drove down to the service station in hosur, Paid the remaining 10K and requested them to register the car, (not yet done), also told them to keep the car overnight and start the 1st serivce work tommorow (satur) morning. Issues I pointed out...

Clutch play needs adj
Codriver seat squeaky
getting the 90/100 bulb system
check for black smoke during turbo kick period
--- what they offered---
will add engine oil additive for 500Rs - bardhal i think
do a free wheel alignment
wash and polish - in & out
tighten all major nuts and bolts for slack

..........Windshield update.........

spoke to the service manager, he called cholamandalam up and informed me that they can offer 50% of the costs, quoted me 7000Rs for Indigo Front glass total work and I have to bear 3500Rs, and also loose the NCB next year, did NOT look WISE & Profitable to claim thru insurance. since I hope to get around 5K back from my Alto;s 50% NCB from Cholamandalam, I will invest that money here and remain a Non-Claimer!! (this may happen next month only)

--- hope to get her back soon---

Hi Santosh,

> will add engine oil additive for 500Rs - bardhal i think

Not needed, in my opinion.

> he called cholamandalam up and informed me that they can offer 50% of
> the costs, quoted me 7000Rs for Indigo Front glass total work and I have

If I am not mistaken, glass expenses are covered 100%. Check with Windshield Experts!

> Profitable to claim thru insurance. since I hope to get around 5K back from > my Alto;s 50% NCB from Cholamandalam, I will invest that money here and > remain a Non-Claimer!! (this may happen next month only)

What you are getting for the Alto is for what you have paid and should not interfere with your claim now. The present claim will cancel your next NCB and not what you are eligible now.

Please recheck and take decision.
