Some manufacturers do not allow taxi vehicles... Its as simple as that. It will be normally part of the agreements that the dealer must follow...

Harry, spot on.

That is why most Indicabs are the DLE, not even the DLS. But then, there are Swift LDi doing the rounds as cabs.

I beg to differ - An individual can purchase a car and get it registered as a cab if he pleases to. A dealer facilitates registration - but a customer always has a choice to have the vehicle registered himself - and this can be as a private car or a taxi.

Ref this cab business - even some of the world's greatest cars are used as fleet cabs!
We see enough in India itself and many more abroad - Camry's, Accords, Mercedes, BMW's, even some honourable Rolls Royces, Range Rovers and Bentleys (of course from top limo services without obvious meters and with private number plates etc) for the well heeled!
There may be some cab operator who wants to buy a number of Vista's for their fleet. Who's to prevent him? It would certainly not be sensible business practice on the part of the manufacturer/ dealer because we know very well that increasingly, car manufacturers/ dealers are turning to the "fleet operator" and "corporate" segments to bolster their falling sales.

I for one, when using a cab while visiting any other city on business, would certainly prefer to be met with a Vista if the other choice Im given is the standard Indica!
Same way I completely like the MERU Logan Cabs - extremely comfy, decent drivers, can rest peacefully in the vehicle while commuting to and from the airport.
Who knows, they might even introduce a VISTAXI or VISTACAB with some minor cosmetic changes here and there to distinguish between the private ones and the fleet ones.

Yawn. Nothing new in that review.

Change the name there, and you will find that statement used in the review of every other car.

Well... That is the theory... But manufacturers believe that they have the right to avoid taxi drivers as their customers... I assure you some manufacturers are strict. If you can book them from a dealer... the dealer is being benevolent...

In logic its similar to the power of admission that high end hotels uses... They never screw the customer. They just say that they don't wish to have business...

I am not justifying it... All I mean to say is it is the real life situation...

For Tata to keep taxi guys out of Vista market, all they have to do is to continue keeping the cheaper Tata Indica V2 in production and maintain the price differential. That's it!

IIRC, Ctrl Alt Del is the only member who has booked a Vista. Delivery, when I confirmed with Concorde Motors in B'lore last Sunday, was still at 3 weeks.

I have 99% decided on the Vista Aura Quadrajet, but might wait till end of October to see if any other hatch launches under the 6L price tag.
