opendro, there is a feature that stops you from going into reverse straight from 5th.
I was talking about engaging reverse from neutral or any other gear

Today i have spotted two Vista "Tdi" aqua badged cars, registered and driven by Owners. By close observation, I couldn't see smoke from the tail pipe and Engine sound is also reasonably less than Regular Indica Tdi.

Anyone had a Test drive on Tdi? Please write your feedback. In this recession time, I guess People wouldn't mind saving ~80K for going this model. Also This car is VFM and will beat the Quadrajet in volume.

What you think team?

the indica with the TDI engine doesnt smoke either!

NVH is another story though. Even I'm curious how people find the TDI vista

Vista TDi Terra is costing 4.24 lacs on road in my home town Sangli. I think this is VFM. Seriously considering it. Will have to take a test drive though. Is anybody on the forum having any experience of Vista TDi?

Went to Autosterling, Noida for test drive of Indica Vista Quadrajet
My 2 paisa on Indica vista
Looks good from front. But the rear looks Bland
Interiors are good. Two-tone looks attractive. Thought the lighetr beige gets dirty quickly.
Interior space is good. There is slight lack of head room in the back where the roof line dips, but not much.
The inside NVH levels are good. But on the outside the engine noise is higher compared to Swift.
Pick up is good - linear and smooth. Did not feel the turbo-lag (compared to Swift-DDis
Ride quality is good
I think there is all-round improvement compared to indica V2. and definetly a good VFM car. The things that are missing IMO - airbags, ABS/EBD, immobiliser.
the salesguy told me that export version with Airbags/abs/immobiliser is expected in Feb 2009
i will be in look out for the New INDIGO. any guess when expected.

went to Pratham motors for a test drive for Indica vista quadrajet. My views
Looks good but does not deviate much from Indica profile. Looks like an elder brother to indica v2.
Good interior space.
NVH is considerably lower than older V2 but getz CRDi has better NVH levels.
Did feel turbo rush around 2000 rpm.
suspensions were good as the bumps did not filter in too much. I drove the car on a really bad road.
Tata still cut some corners in cheap power window buttons, door locks. Fit and finish on steering was not upto expected levels. Other places it looked good.
Lots of cubby holes to keep stuff.
drkunaldas, will the export version be available in india in feb 2009?
Seriously confused between getz diesel, aura vista and ikon diesel now

No, the TDI gearbox is still desi, although a new and improved one with cable mechanism like in Palio and Quadrajet.

Default Vista TDi

Went to Tata dealersship for a test drive of Vista TDi. The TDi car was not available for the TD only Qjet was. There was a Vista TDi which was being fitted with accessories. The dealership refused TD in the same stating that it's already booked by somebody else. (I appreciate the dealer not using booked car for TD.)

They have promised me a full TD ASAP. Waiting for their call now. In the meantime they allowed me to have a look at the above mentioned TDi, started the car and moved it 10 feet back and forth couple of times.

From this small 'drive' of 20 feet in Vista TDi I noticed following-
1. There is no body vibration at starting and in idle.
2. The gear lever does not vibrate at starting and thereafter in idle.
3. Pick up is satisfactory. Though obviously not matching Qjet or my XL Dicor.
4. The sales person tells me gearbox is Tata (and not Fiat) but a cable operated one. Have forwarded this query to a friend who works in Tata Motors, that too in transmission section.

Waiting for a full test drive on roads.

Bouncer's Tdi, feedback is impressive, waiting for full Test drive from BHPians.

Bouncer, what was the noise level in the Cabin and outside the car? I don't expect any change with bonnet Open.

Default Tdindeed

It's really surprising that I am seeing very few Indica Vistas on the road, when I test drove the car I was mighty impressed (the Quadrajet Aura). It does seem that Tata might be facing some sort of production bottleneck, as it just doesnt fit. Great VFM, good looks, excellent engine and transmission etc. not withstanding, how can this car not be successful? What about the TDi, why doesnt that sell like hot cakes?

I think the TDi may turn out to be the joker in the pack, the Tata engine has always been underrated inspite of remarkable improvement in NVH over the years. Add to it bullet proof reliability (I have yet to come across an Indica TDi with engine trouble) and a more refined transmission (going by Bouncer's comment) and fantastic VFM, the TDi deserves to be successful.

Bouncer, please get that test drive soon, it'll be a TeamBhp first .

Autocar says that there are production issues with the Vista power steering and deliveries are getting affected due to that.
