I am sure the stock door speakers are 5.25" and many say 6" spkrs can be installed using spacer rings.

stick with D. Havent heard Xenos or delphi grundig speakers. I'd rather leave Matters to the specialists

Xenos is a brand of products from the Pricol group, I installed the security system from Xenos way back in 2004, still works without a hitch. But I have never seen their audio systems so cannot comment

Grundig used to be a German company, infact their radios are quite good, got one at the office.

All said and done, I think the usual suspects of Pioneer, Blaupunkt, Sony Xplod, JVC etc would be a safer bet.

@JPM: Congrats on your purchase!!! Hope you have a gr8 ownership experience.

I went through the exact thought process that you went through, some 6 months ago. Somehow buying a Tata for 5.48 lacs(Bangalore OTR for Aura) didnt make sense. It would be too close to the Swift and the Palio and you wouldnt have too many reasons to convince yourself to buy the car.

The Vista TDi however has absolutely no competition at its price point and much easier to choose.

Even if the Quadrajet Terra was launched 6 months ago I wouldnt have bought it, Its completely grey(Yuck!!) inside, atleast the Aqua has light grey and dark grey. I wonder how much it cost these guys to just give us a different color like the beige. Also you have the Palio SD at the same price.

My Vista has already done 7500 kms and have already completed 2 trips(coorg and Wayanad) on it and am absolutely happy with the car although had some niggling issue of steering vibration at high speed but that was sorted with tyre rotation.

Cheers,
Nitin

JPM,
Congrats on your new Indica Vista and choosing Red color . On the audio, I would suggest you to go with Option D as you have the budget for it. Prefer a branded one - JBL, Pioneer, Sony speakers costs almost the same and go for good Head Unit, it definitely makes the difference in the music.
Enjoy your new drive, how did it behave on the highways ?

will be glad if Anyone with bigger speakers (not on MDF board) on a Vista can guide me on this.

Should get the regulation-issue number plates by 8pm today(Rs. 600) from Nachiappa's, Opp. Corporation ground, Mandaveli, Chennai.
5 1/4 " speakers can be fit into the Vista doors with the MDF rings easily.. for 6 inch some metal beating will I have to be done. Swift has space for 6 inchers. Damn! why didnt Tata gives us that provision . I wonder if they saved some cost in that as well!

I have JBL 5 1/4" inch in front doors and JBL 6x9 on wooden plank for the rear
The effect is good enough but can never match the Sub.

Putting the speakers on wooden plank doesnt affect the boot space. It is so high up that it wont interfere with bags on anything.

Cheers,
Nitin

AUDIO UPDATE:
Got the following at Chennai Auto Point, Sivagnanam Road, Chennai.

1) Pioneer 2190UB HU w B&W
2) JBL GTS-508C 5.25in components for the front w B&W
3) Sony X-Plod 5.25in XS-GTF13252 speakers for rear

Antenna+Wiring Harness et al

for 13.6K INR including installation. (Was quoted 14.9K INR)

The drive back home was quite satisfying to say the least.

Tried RadioWarehouse at Wallajah Road. Too pushy salesmen trying to set me up for the 'superior german' bosch blaupunkt HU+compos. Then they brought me a demo car for 5.25in speakers and then I found out that it had 6in compos in front and 6x9s in the rear.

Car-O-Drome, though the name sounds hi fi, is run from a small 'portion' in one of the alleyways in between Ratna Cafe & TTD Temple in VN Road, TNagar. They had Sony, Pioneer and some local brands. The salesguy told me no one makes 5.25in components anymore.

Dejected I took the next signal to Pondy bazaar and accidentally spotted this Chennai Auto Point and got what i wanted.

recession. so saving up for later. But seriously, I had to 10-12k for audio for now and already had to stretch a bit for the setup that i got. So amp and sub if at all will have to wait.

anilagdr,
yes, they took in 5.25ins.

greenhorn,
xenos was an unknown in this area. Even though it all sounded nice (me being an amateur) in the demo room, I thought of sticking to the brands that I have at least heard of.

indivic,
Xenos seems to be a new entrant to the car audio business and they outsource their audio from someone in italy (acc. to salespeople).

As you say, better to stick with the usual suspects.

revhappy,
yes, vista will have some trouble at the top especially from i20 that is quite well built, diesel or not. If I had had the budget I think would have gone for i20 or waited for GP than buying the Aura MJD. Thats MHO. But at this pricepoint, vista is unbeatable and I am surprised (and quite relieved) not to see that many TDis running around in Chennai. Hardly see 5-6 cars on my daily route. Most of them seem to be quadrajet.

Was concerned with the fixed MDF board because the current one is mobile and can be easily removed if necessary. Anyways, as posted above got a simple setup now that fits inside the default enclosures.

Dine,
Thanks man.

Did go for Option D at the end. Happy that I did.

On the NH45, the car was quite pleasant to drive with the AC good along the whole drive in the scorching 10-3PM mid-day sun that too with no sunfilm. I didnt push revs beyond 2K and speed was kept less than 95kmph. The car felt planted and at the wheel felt like a big car. Brakes had adequate bite.

Could I trouble you with some details?

How many occupants in the car? What was the AC settings?

You say that you did not push the revolutions beyond 2000RPM and then mention a speed of 95kmh. In my Marina in 5th gear at about 80kph it goes past the 2000RPM mark. What was the RPM you had when it was doing 95kmh?

Congrats JPM. It was nice to read your emotions through the process.

Keep us updated. I might look at the TDi as well.

I am thinking of getting a similar setup for my next car. What does the bass sound like?

good good. You could have saved a few more K at the cost of a two year warranty by getting a 2150 instead. but the price seems quite nice.
What was the opinion of these installers on fitting 6 inchers on the vista doors ?

PS: why not 6x9's and an MDF tray at the back? should have sounded vastly better
