No we should not thank honda. They could have done better. Priced Jazz at 10L and created B+++ segment.

Duping, highway robbery, etc etc.

Guys, any company is free (monopolistic situations being an exception) to decide the pricing of its product. You think its overpriced, dont buy it. As simple as that. As long as they don't put a gun to your head and force you to buy the Jazz, there is no thuggery or robbery involved.

No point jumping in every few posts to say how atrociously priced the car is. Nothing new with Honda's India pricing strategy for its other cars also. So what's the whole point ?

Given Honda's track-record in India, I would not dismiss this as some pricing they drew out of thin air. I would not be surprised if they hit their target.

This is in a different league Supreme! We were guessing 6.5-7 as OTR prices against close to 8 Lakhs! The Jazz makes even the new Honda City look VFM.

LOL! Maybe my post was an exagerration, yet the i20 gives you each one of the features that an Accord does, save for electric lumbar support. But then, the i20 does have a comprehensive MID (multi-information display), cooled glove box and dead pedal which the Accord doesn't. Either ways, the point was only made to illustrate that a 7 lakh hatch ought to come loaded with premium features.

Sheer quality. Parts feel like they are from a distinctly higher grade. Also, the storage capacity is much more flexible.

This option is for those, who have knowledge to compare. Like for people on this forum.

But what abt people who dont have enough time to look into such details. They are indeed going to be taken on ride by HONDA. And thats NOT fair.

Maybe as BHPians, we should be making people around us (who r not BHPians ) more aware abt such things.

As somebody said in prior posts no car was bashed as seriously as this one. Can we pause a bit now? Think from the manufacturers point of view. What if Honda has a policy to price a product at lets say cost + 25%. What if city, civic is priced that way, and the Jazz material and conversion cost is as high. In that case they are giving as much value as say for city or civic, and with that much value in jazz there would be no trouble selling Jazz. But God forbid if they are trying to pull a fast one here, trying to create value where none exist. Indians are discerning buyers and will easily dump the product. Only time will tell.

Hi, Very informative review, well certainly looks neat & complete however far too high price wise. 7.15 L(base) ex show room price for bangalore seems too high

You know what, even if they had priced it at 7L OTR, there would be people cribbing that its peers sell at 5L-odd and this is atrocious pricing from Honda.

And anyway if the target-market's reactions are the same as echoed by most tbhp-ians, the Jazz would go the Fabia way.

Dont think a cup will block air. On the contrary, I think it would be useful for some people. Eg. my wife holds the feeding bottle in front of
the a/c vents to cool it enough to be drinkable. With this holder, she can just plonk the bottle in the cupholder and sit back.

But, will I pay 8L for the Jazz because of this feature ? No way.

Then again, I am not the typical Honda buyer, inspite of admiring their products. If I was, I would have been driving the City-ZX instead of the Baleno. So, Honda needn't be bothered about my opinion.

Unless some guy has been waiting all his life ONLY to buy the Jazz when it comes to India, most people do some bit of research before plonking down 8lakhs. And rest assured that just because someone is not on tbhp, does not mean they are not aware.

Eg. I was looking at the advt of Jazz in the paper and a colleague (non-tbhp) comes along. I tell him about the new car and he says, "Yeah, looks good, but I heard it's damn costly." See, people are aware.

Ultimately, it will be the sales figures which will decide whether the Jazz is over priced or not. If Honda manages to sell 2000+ units a month then, it has worked for them, even with the jacked up prices. If not or, good sales only during the initial months then, it has not been a hit and that might encourage Honda to introduce price cuts (high hopes) or better packages (free servicing, insurance rebate etc. etc.)

I really don't know what to comment, or how to put it, but, Honda City and the Civic did sell even if they were marginally over priced.
But with a plethora of small car options available in India, I'm a bit skeptical that
the Jazz would reach numbers as that of the City and Civic.
My best bet would be, it would meet the same fate as the Aveo U-VA, very rarely seen on the roads, or the Fabia.

Did anyone see the advertisement in today's paper?

It seems Honda knows that anybody who is seriously looking for a car wont buy the Jazz & hence the cheesy line - Why So serious?

That line is such a rip from the latest Batman movie, whats happening to marketing guys these days, they seem to be running out of ideas

easier said that done -- as i frequently interact with my neighbour who is into Mktg and Sales with Tata Motors -- he once told me that people who put in 10 lacs in a Safari or a Scorpio are not educated or knowledgeable enough to tell the difference between a transmission and suspension.

They just want the damn vehicle and want it to go one up against other rich folks in their soceity or place themselves as equals in the society. Its tough telling such folks @ how a car is blatantly overpriced or under-featured for the moolah they are doling out.

For Honda the per vehicle realization for Jazz & ANHC is the same. The price difference of ~80k is the excise duty benefit which thankfully Honda is passing on to the customer!!

A 1.2 engine @ 7.5 lakhs ? Is honda playing a joke (Ah! now I understand the line "Why so serious?") . Okay seriously it offers a mere 3 yes that is three BHP more than the swift petrol . This is blasphemy . The least they could have done is put the 3rd generation Honda City engine in it. A 110 BHP Jazz would actually rock and would atleast make the shocker of a price a little more digestable .
Honda could have and should have learnt from the Fabia's mistakes.
Though I have no doubt it will sell . The Honda name is enough i guess .
The Dashboard is brilliant ! Loved it.
@GTO Is the plastic quality as bad as the ANHC or are they soft touch and properly put together?
Is this a full size European hatch like Golf ?
The looks are plane ugly . Zero excitement .
Look ma ! No alloys !

Brilliant review GTO and team !

+1. The problem is with perception in India. The minute you take an S-class...chop the boot and make it into a hatchback, people will demand that it be priced at 6 lakhs.

If people are gobbling up Honda Citys for 10 lakhs then 7.5 for a City without a boot is not out of line (its built on the same damn platform).

I suppose nobody has trouble paying 8 lakhs for a 68 bhp Fiesta diesel or ~80 bhp NHC. What makes you think people want lots and lots of horsepower?? Nobody cared for a Palio 1.6 100 bhp even at throwaway prices. My dad just picked up a Civic for 15 and he has no clue how much power it makes and neither does he care.
