Just joking!!
Good one Geeash. Nice to see you in your spirits especially after all the A.S.S. bashing.

Guys you know what; I think that if the boot is opened while driving then there should be an instantaneous beep. I've witnessed it with opening doors while moving.

Had a scrape with a biker today evening around 7 ish resulting in a scratch (& black marks, looks like tyre marks) on left rear bumper. I was waiting at the Annanagar roundtana signal and this "......" biker was trying to squeeze through a little gap between my car and another one.
Take the car to 3M to get the scratch undone mate!!. it has been a long overdue for your car isnt it??

I don't know whether it comes in every Linea or my car has this unique feature to reassure the remote operations.
Karthik, i checked it. I could hear a tick sound only once while locking as well as unlocking. The lights blink once and twice while locking & unlocking respectively.

Ayyo, what happened to my hearing abilities. I dont hear anything.

What is the use if the sound is very feeble !!!
I had this feature with Nippon and Autocop for my Alto and SX4. It was quite useful

it's not like a beep sound from speakers.
It's like a mechanical sound same as unlocking and locking using remote.
but i heard it after open the door a small "tic" sound.

The sound happended in my previous car xenos security system if any of the door is not closing properly.
It's rejecting our remote command.

if i see your car personally i can find it out easily.Whether the sound comes or not.
The tic sound comes from behind the steering wheel/Fuse box.

Just close the door from inside and do central locking/unlocking.you will hear a tic sound from Fuse Box area other than unlock sound after some millisecond.
might be the sound comes from some electronic device like relays which helps locking and unlocking.

FIAT has given me in writing that (mail is signed by Anand Kumar - Head of After Sales Service, FIAT India)

1. Acknowledging the fact that the door rust is due to manufacturing defect and they will be replaced at FIAT cost.
2. FIAT company officials will oversee the replacement of door work and painting at Concorde, Chennai.
3. FIAT company officials will check the entire car for manufacturing defects/rusting and will rectify the same. Car to be handed over to me as per original factory condition.
4. Painting on the replaced doors will be as per original factory painting.
5. FIAT will provide a certificate to the effect that the car is free from any manufacturing defects/rusting and provide a warranty/guarantee certificate in writing to that effect.

I am not sure if i still need to insist on refund of cost/replacement of Car. Your suggestions pls !
Received a confirmation from Mangesh yesterday that QA's from FIAT is visiting Chennai day-after to inspect my car after it is being treated for rusting problem last month.

Will keep you posted on the same.

If the boot is open, when the car is stationary or in motion, there is a warning in the MID panel by displaying 'Boot open' when the ignition is turned on to MAR position. No beep, of course.

I saw "new" mud flaps for Punto today at the TASS.

These mud flaps are similar to the one we have in Linea but the screws are from inside (not visible from outside) and the mudflap length is also shortened. Looks very decent from the ones we have now.

These can be fitted to Linea as well but "Punto" is printed on it.

I was speaking to the FIAT Regional Ops Support Manager for South and he indicated that Minimal grey is not available from december due to some technical issues at the plant. He said, the from next month onwards grey will be available.

I assume that Grey might also be permanently discontinued like what happened to Vocal White. Its my guess.

Default Meeting with Mangesh Kodalkar, Customer Care, FIAT India

Had a marathon 3 hour meeting with Mangesh and his team today.

As promised by FIAT earlier, Mangesh Kodalkar along with Satish Kadiya, product improvement, Corporate Quality came down to Chennai to inspect my car on the rusting complaint.

The rear doors were earlier replaced (dec) and now the front doors are being replaced. I wanted to replace the front doors later (in jan) as i wanted the FIAT quality team to come down and be with my car when the work is undertaken.

Along with FIAT team, a team from BASF, Mangalore who are the OE Paint partner for FIAT cars in India were also present inaddition to the Concorde Motors, Chennai Management team.

They inspected my car head to toe and found no rusting anywhere other than earlier reported on the doors.

Conclusion : culprit is the faulty rubber beading through which water entered the door panels and the metal rods inside the rubber beading could be the cause of rusting.

At my request, Mangesh has promised to provide me a letter stating

1. Acknowledging the fact that the door rust is due to manufacturing defect and are replaced by FIAT.

2. FIAT company officials have overseen the replacement of door work and painting at Concorde, Chennai.

3. FIAT company officials and BASF, official OE paint partner of FIAT have checked the entire car for manufacturing defects/rusting and found to be in original factory condition.

4. a certificate to the effect that the car is free from any manufacturing defects/rusting and provide a warranty/guarantee certificate in writing to that effect.

I felt happy at the fact that FIAT team came down to Chennai at my request to oversee the rusting issue and accepting the fact that rusting is indeed a manufacturing defect from their side without any dissent.

Overall, a nice gesture from FIAT.

Other matters discussed (in brief) :

Sales : Sales is improving and they are on target for 2009. More focus on sales in 2010 by more print and TV advertisements. Sales workforce is being given specialised training on improving sales and proactive followups on referrals, test drives and walk-in's.

Service : Feedback from existing Linea and Punto customers are Excellent as per JD power survey and Internal quality surveys. Every dealer has been instructed to go that extra mile to ensure service is taken care to customer satisfaction. Any car lying in the TASS for more than 2 days is being questioned by the FIAT management.

Spares : Spares are available online and are delivered to the TASS in a weeks time at the latest. Non-availability of spares are being followed upon priority.

Colours discontinued : In addition to Vocal White, Medium Grey is being discontinued for the time being due to technical hitches at the pune plant. No new colours will be added in the near future.

T-Jet : Launch date during May-June 2010

1.6 Diesel : Expected early 2011

Punto : 1.2 version will be introduced in emotion and Emotion Pack; 90BHP sports version to be launched during mid-2010.

Accessories : Proposal to introduce more accessories in line with what is available in Brazil and Italy.

I also showed them the articles on T-BHP, BHPian feedback on FIAT cars, Expectations etc.

Some of the informations discussed are kept confidential as requested by the FIAT team.

Ashwin (geeash) had also met the FIAT team later as he had come to TASS for his 2nd service.

>>> Ashwin - you may add your discussion with Mangesh incase i have missed any.
