I hear many people complain "Oh no airbags, so I dont want this variant" etc. How many people even wear seat belts while on a highway run ? If you are overcondfident of the airbags and ignore the basic seat belts, your head will be in shape (provided airbags deploy on time and you land on them), but neck bone could be broken. If its a crash sideways, airbags wont deploy and the person will be thrown around the cabin. Not scaring anyone, but thats the fact. So, start wearing the seat belts first !
I find this comment hilarious !!

Do you think people who buy an SXI are so dumb that they will not use the seatbelt when they are high-speed on the highways ? We bought the car paying a premium since we do understand the value of safety features . Mostly nothing else proably other than the interior looks much better than a ZXI . Sorry for being extremist . But a fact is a fact

Esoteric take it easy, you will find in most of Shajufx posts sense of humour and some valid message. Personally I beleive all T-Bhpians do wear seat belts, either their car is equipped with airbags or without airbags.

You are right on your own perspective, but the TRUTH is far from what you are aware of. My relatives have cars ranging from Maruti 800 to BMW 730 LD. Sad to say my bro-in-law who travels a minimum of 3000 kms in his BMW every month never uses his seat belts. Although he travels sitting in luxury, his mind is in his Jeep days 20 years back ! I have another cousine who travels in his Innova atleast 4000 kms on highways every month, never ever seen him buckling up. So, what do we call these guys ? They all know the advantages of seat belts, but never uses. One year back I travelled to Cochin with another cousine in his Skoda and came back in 2 days. I was looking like an idiot wearing my passenger seat belt and nobody else in the car bothered to touch the belts. So dont tell me paying a premium for safety inspires you to use them. You might, but majority dont.

Sadly I havent paid that premium, so I still prefer to buy my Volga helmet !

Its mandatory in almost every city to wear seat belt & if someone sitting next to me deny wearing it then I make a deal saying if cop stops us then you have to pay the fine so ultimatly without uttering a single word they put seat belt

buddy, shaju responded in good humor to my DIY comment like he always does!! out of his 820 posts so far, find 75 posts without any humor in it, I'll give you a free ICECOOL shield for your car's windshield!

anyway, he was only stressing on the importance of wearing a seat belt! am sure no love is lost here!!

@nairsaab, 2 weeks and a 5 star thread!! now that sreesanth has also made his way back into the test squad, when and where is the party??

@Gilead/rajesvin: Are you guys sure about this?

I know that it is potentially dangerous if airbag pops when the occupant is not wearing the seatbelt. But never heard of airbags programmed to not deploy when the seatbelts are not worn.

The low fuel warning light comes up when the vehicle can run around for another 80 kms. This what the manual says. This translates into the vehicle having around 7 to 8 liters of fuel once the warning light comes up.

My question here is, is this accurate or will there be any variation? If there is any variation then how much (approximately atleast)? I only want to know the accuracy this feature.

I wish SXIs were bought primarily for the safety feature, but I have reason to believe a good majority buy it only for the leather and better interiors.

When I had gone to take delivery of my car today, a middle aged couple were in the next table. They were initially interested in the SXI, but jumped onto the ZXI Leather Edition when they found out about it. The sales guy even told them about the airbags, but they were not interested in it any more. They thought the ZXI Leather was a great deal. Later my sales guy told me that SXI bookings which used to be brisk have slowed down. ZXI Leather is on a roll though.

So I believe that a majority of SXI buyers were interested in looks only. I doubt if wearing a seat belt is high on their priority list. So you don't have to be dumb not to wear seat belts on an SXI. You just have to be plain unaware or uninterested.

yes, the DTE shows about 70-80 kms once the fuel light comes on. i've noticed this! am certain there is at least 5-6 liters in the tank even when the fuel indicator is bang on the 'E' mark! but yeah, the DTE cannot be trusted all the time, it's only there to give you a fair idea! the variation however may not be all that drastic, you should be able to travel safely for at least 50 kms after the fuel indicator has flashed.

reading on the DTE - (minus) 20kms approx in my opinion.

Oss, yes it is 100% true, it is the same case with ANHC, I don't know about other brands.
When I was in finalization stage of booking Fiesta, I researched lot of info about airbags pros and cons, eventually I discussed with Service Manager and others, they specifically told me, use always seatbelts as sensing circuit won't complete to activate airbags in severe crash.

I do agree partially, but why people will spend 80 - 90 K more for leather seats etc, as they can upgrade to better seat covers, alloys etc. by spending less amount, I agree there may be few people who don't do calculation and are unaware of safety features.
Atleast on T-Bhp IMO most people are going for SXI primarily due to airbags and later for leather seats, alloys etc.

Shaju - I was inspired mostly by your posts to buy the Fiesta ...pls don't mind . I have mentioned it in other posts . Maybe I did not know beamers were never wearing any seat belts .
Volga helmets I am not aware , I do know about one cheap Volga Vodka that we used to drink in our school days in Kolkata , it killed many

I have unfortunately not seen any alloy upgrades or seat cover changes that matches any SXI ( maybe more money was spent but it nowhere looks close to an SXI ) . Again you will never get the basic safety like airbags for however much premium you pay . I agree and hope that it will never be used ...but such cases do occur only once and that single insatnce do make the difference between dead or alive . For me its a very small premiom to pay .

Default Fuel Indicator / DTE readings

I have an opportunity to test the FE for 100% in-city driving this time around and hence have been keeping a close watch on the DTE indicator, the fuel meter and the trip meter since the recent re-fueling exercise.

This is what I've been consistently observing over the last week that is perplexing me no end - when I pump the brake gently with the gear on neutral and the car stationary with the engine on (obviously at signals), the fuel indicator rises noticably and subsequently the DTE shows a higher number (I saw the DTE move from 170 to 225 today ). When the car reaches the destination; DTE typically shows a higher number than at the start of the trip. When the car is started the next time DTE is significantly lower than at the end of the previous trip.

When this happens, the signal seems like a pit-stop with someone filling the car with fuel.

While I understand that the DTE meter has a calculation algorithm that is not the best, I still do not understand why the fuel indicator should be affected by applying the brakes.

Not sure if anyone else is facing a similar situation - Experts please help me understand this behaviour.

Beast, can we start adding colors to find out which is the most popular one? I think it should be Platinum as of now.

@esoteric su

I have read all your points/discussions regarding the Airbags and seatbelt.

Airbags - It is the one major issue - how far it is useful when an accident occurs. What all parts (of our body) it will safeguard. In Indian cars, what guarantee that this will work in emergency (unless some one have the experience)? All we know is that -yes this car is equipped with Airbags so some sort of relief. But how do we check if it is in working condition?
All other equipments in a car can be checked (like A/C, ICE,lightings, etc).

I knew that maruti vehicles (not sure all the cars have this system) have a system that upon any impact the driver seat used bend towards back
(flat) preventing the driver hitting the steering wheel or the dashboard or the windscreen or all altogether . In my case, 15 years back - when I was working in mumbai- I used to drive a M800. one day, on the way to office, at a pedestrian crossing, I applied brake when the signal turn to red. Suddenly a state bus coming behind hit me on the back of my car and in the impact,my car hit another car (that too M800) and jumped onto the road devider and hit the bonnet on the signal post. I knew only the hit behind and at that point of time my seat went back and in a position that I am lying on the floor- The seat totally become like a bench. Fortunately nothing happened to me, not even a scratch and then follow ups with police etc as routine way.
(just try to bring back the seat and it did return to the normal position
without any damage)

Later, I checked with my service guy about this seat going flat during accident, he said this is there in all maruti cars(he too was not aware if same system available in other cars).

I dont know this system is there even today and in all cars. or are they
discontinued once Airbags came into effect?

Seat Belt : If you ask me, the more important is the SEAT BELT. But I have seen most of the driversor owner drivers are using because of the Cops ?
@shajufx - Not a bad idea of wearing Volga helmet - the head is safe?
