There will be 3 indicators on each side will flash when using the remote i.e back side indicators, side indicators (the one fitted on the side just near the front doors) and the indicator fitted on the headlight assembly.
The tail lamp is typically the one that is red in color. The manual should have said 'side and rear indicators will come on..' and not the tail light.

Damu: The Fiesta manual is not well written. It's one of the worst manuals I have ever read. You will find a lot of unnecessary repetitions, illogical groupings and other 'gems'.

Ok that clears up that, thanks. This is a clear mistake in the manual.

We're a generation apart Gilead! In Ambassador days, what you call "pilot" was called "parking". Even those days there could be a difference in nomenclature between British, American, and European manuals. (Yeah, in the '50s and '60s there were American vehicles being sold here - Dodge, DeSoto, Plymouth, Chevrolet (remember the Impala?) etc.).

And Ford has termed these as "side lights". (See in the same page the illustration for "position B" in the light switch, says clearly that this is for "side and tail lamps" doesn't call it either "parking" or "pilot".

No, the manual is wrong. It clearly says "side lamps and tail lamps" meaning pilot lamps and tail lamps. Doesn't say anything about indicators. Check your manual. See also page 50 where there are illustrations showing the "side" lamp, it is the same what we oldies call "parking" lamps.

Indicators are not "side lamps", indicators are either front mounted inside the headlamp cluster called "front direction indicators" (page 50) or side (fender) "side repeaters, fender mounted" (page 51).

Yep. Never mind, they get their cars perfectly right, so I'm not cribbing! Can reasonably say they haven't put a foot wrong with the 'S'.

imo, there are no seperate tail lamp fitted, it comes with the tail lamp assembly which also includes the parking light and reverse light. So these set of lights can also be called as Tail Lamps??

Damu's doubt was exactly the same doubt I had when I read the whole of the manual in the midnight after my car camo home. Damu is correct, there is a mistake.

Hi Gilead - Nice car you have there, Im currently contemplating an 1.6S and hence thought of asking for your suggestions for the following.

- Ride Quality - I know this is definitely inferior to 1.6 SXI but im not sure by what margin. I have driven neither so far and hence unable to determine. I currently drive a Swift D with 70 profile tyres and it is known fact that ride is little bit on the harsher side. How does the 1.6S compare to swift D in terms of ride quality?

- How is the After Sales Service for ford in chennai? I know we dont have much choice here, but still wanted to ask.

- While driving, i felt my left knee to brush against the center console (im a little short in stature), i think i can live with it, do you have any issues especially on long drives? Also, i wanted to check the seating comfort since i have spinal disc problem.

Thank you for your time in advance.

I asked frankmehta the same question before buying my car and the answer is still the same. Drive both and see. The ride on the S is definitely harder but it was not a deal breaker for me. The Fiesta is very solidly built and nothing much filters through. I have driven the Swift D only briefly, but I think the S has a better ride quality.

The ride is hard only on bad roads at slow speeds. Take the same roads at higher speeds and potholes and bumps are dispatched without a fuss. No pitching or bouncing that you generally experience in a car with soft suspension. I guess I don't have to tell you about the handling part. It's much better than the SXi.

There are literally thousands of Fiestas running in Chennai. An S stands out a mile and will draw second looks wherever you go. You will have to forego the beige, leather and the arm rest at the back, but you get a lot of other goodies in return. PM me your details if you want me to put you in touch with my car salesman. I took extensive drives in both the SXi and S before deciding.

Service is fairly decent if you don't have high expectations, but still better than Maruti IMO. You have a choice of 6 or 7 service stations run by Chennai Ford or MPL Ford. My car goes to Chennai Ford for service though I bought it from MPL Ford.

I rest my knee on the side of the console for support, so it was never an issue for me. My longest drive has only been an hour and a half so I can't comment on long drives. PM Anachronix for more info. He regularly takes his S to Bangalore.

Thank you for your time in advance.
I found the seating comfort to be far better than any hatchback and comparable to cars like City and Verna. Only the Cedia has better seating comfort in that price range. You can always get additional bolstering done by a good seat dealer like Stanley or Jeewajee.

Now that I know what it is, I will ask them to clean it in future services instead of replacing it.

I guess the earlier paper filter used to be called 'Pollen Filter' and Ford India might not have updated the name in their database, though the new filter is no longer made of paper/ pollen.
Boss, I am still confused. I did send an email to Ford, in a weeks time received a reply that Chennai Ford will come back to me with details..they did came back but repeated the same story as I have posted.

The filter which is inside the cabin towards the right leg side of front passenger is the cabin air filter - just like room a/c filter. IMO, this prevents dirt/dust from the car cabin when air inside is sucked to the compressor for cooling in recirculation mode. This cannot be the filter which prevents dirt from outside to get inside. Pollen filter must be some kind of multi-layered filter which not only prevents minute dirt particles but also odor/smoke etc. By the nature of the job it does, it is bound to get mighty dirty/clogged and should require regular cleaning. From what I have gathered, this filter should be somewhere just under the front windscreen sill where there are openings for sucking in fresh air.

Hi Bala,

Most of your queries have already been answered by Gilead, hence would not be delving into that. The inferior ride which you mentioned in the S is coz of stiffer suspensions unlike the smooth suspension in other Fiesta variants. This affects the rear passengers the most rather than the driver which I had experienced during my TD. You need to check it out personally.
Swift and Fiesta are two diff categories you are trying to compare.

Keep family considerations in mind as well. An S is best avoided if elderly people will regularly sit in the back seat and if you drive on not so great roads. And wives prefer beige I think. The beige will get messy very soon if you have small kids though.

Agreed. Sxi is a better option if the rear would seat the family which was in my case. I switched from the S to Sxi. Additionally the gorgeous 'Aquarius Blue' was discontinued ( I don't know why) . Anyways drive for yourself before you decide.

Few questions from my side -
I just picked up my car after my first service from Chennai Ford, which like somebody truly mentioned - just fluid checks and water wash. Anyways, I was asked to do
- cavity protection for Rs. 2800 for rust prevention on doors. Is this needed?
- some plastic (may be vinyl) flooring for Rs. 2500 which makes cleaning easy and protects the mat flooring. Is this needed?
- 3M ST-35 sunfilm for Rs. 3800 (both side and rear). Is this a reasonable price? (I was told if something goes wrong they would replace the entire glass )

Default Ice

The ICE upgrade has started as I couldn't put it off any more. Phase 1 installation starts tomorrow morning and should be completed by evening. Hopefully I'll be enjoying some SQL in 36 hours. Here is a preview of this things to come.

Useless. Avoid it. Doors will not rust unless there is a painting defect. Get the underbody rust protection instead.

This is a good price. It will be directly installed by the 3M distributor Balaji so the work will be good.
