I have recently purchased a Nissan X-trail from an Embassy directly through a public bidding process.
This is a 2003 model imported from Japan by the embassy.
The following are the details of the same:
Model :2003
Engine: 2500cc petrol
Type: 4x4
Kms used: 27000
I have a few questions regarding the same:
1) What would be the approximate service charges ?
2) Are the spares readily available in New Delhi ?
3) What should be the mileage of the car ?
4) Is a CNG kit available for this car ?
I am also attaching a couple of pictures of my car.
Congrats Kamal on your purchase. the car looks in very good condition in the pics. How much it cost you? Nissan vehicles are very robust and almost military specced- you know what I mean so it should be relatively, maintenance free and specially being a petrol engine, run just 27000kms, it should be in very good shape. But it would be adviseable to visit an authorised nissan a. s. s. to get a fair idea.
Please, share your experiences and some interiors' pics as well.
wow it looks good. dont you think you shouldve checked up on those details before buying a car? services should not be much but spares might be a problem since i dont think nissan sells a petrol x-trail over here. by converting to cng you will lose out on power and possibly reliability if the job is not done correctly. also about the mileage, i wouldnt expect anything over 7-8kmpl in city.

How does the embassy bidding process work? DO you need to pre register?

If I'm not mistaken, embassies dont pay import duties while importing for their use. Did you pay the duty for personal use?

Sure i will post more pics of the car shortly. I purchased the car for about 8 lakhs and another 50 thousand for the registration and other charges.

Could u also please share with us the buying process like how you came to know of this auction, how you applied, inspection, bidding etc. It would help a lot of us.
The embassies usually place ads in newspapers and invite buyers for an inspection of the vehicle. Once you have inspected the vehicle, you will have to send your bid in a sealed envelope with your address and contact details.
The embassy then contacts the highest bidder for finalizing the sale.
Delhi folks can refer to the classifieds /motor vehicles section of the Friday and Sunday editions of TOI and HT for such ads.
I had also recently placed a bid for a used Nissan patrol ( 2001 model ) which was advertised by the Australian Embassy in New Delhi, but now since i have bough the X-trail, i have no funds to even buy a two wheeler :)
Petrol X-Trail, that is interesting.
I also notice that it has different looking bumper, grill and the wheel arches from the model sold here.
Does it have the instrument cluster in the center of the dashboard?
Spare parts for X-trail are amongst the most expensive, even by Luxury SUV standards.
Nice looking machine!Seems to have been taken care off well.
You might have to source some parts from out of India when the need arises.Doubt if there are very many dealers who stock parts of the model.

Nissa had a dealership, Pushpanjali Motors, located at Shivaji Marg, Moti Nagar, West Delhi in the same building as Mitsubishi's Asian Motors. But unfortunately, it had shut down its operations. I have heard that a new Dealership is coming up, maybe opened by the same person who owns Deutsche Motoren BMW (not sure), also I have no idea of the location.
X Trails are usually maintenance free cars and I have heard that embassy vehicles are often very well maintained. I suggest you to get in touch with these people as they MAY guide you on how to maintain it.
CNG is not recommended, though it is possibly practical to fit it, as it may adversly affect the engine longevity and will cause severe drop in power and performance of the vehicle.
With sedate driving, a 2500 cc X trail should return about 7-9 kmpl. Diesels often return about 14-15 kmpl.

that was quick to buy and sell. Is the Patrol a diesel one that you are getting ?
