Hey did'nt the W124 diesels have gills in the front fender...or was that only for type2.

PS: the alloys you have now are the best. Keeps it elegant and not flashy.

Hi

This car came as is, no gills on the front fender, I think that happened on later models.

As for the alloys, the ones you see now are the one's that came OE with the car. The earlier ones (5 spoke) were the temp. one's while these were being re-furbished.

This is how it's gonna be, a true classic !!

The cooling of the A.C was suspect. So it was run Gurgaon-Delhi for 2 days with the relay removed, so we know the culprit - the relay. The car is now like an icebox (I am told)

Got some nice "plane jane" number plates for her - same as what I had on my Vitara. So the look will improve further. Can't live with tacky number plates any which way.

Also getting a set of duplicate keys done (OE), as the one which came with the car was - well flimsy & most un-becoming of a Merc.

So that is the update (without pics I am afraid) for the day !!

Cheers

Default Merc Update

The car seems to be ready to go home by tomorrow. It was getting washed & vacumed today.

The interior drycleaning & body polishing will happen tomorrow. Plus smaller issues like the light focusing etc.

So far so good

Some pictures of today's progress.

Cheers

hello Ricky ,

I was following this thread from day1 , the best thing is that there is an update without much delays :-)
For me Merc W124 E250 D mean that its an awesome looker , and its hard for anyone to take eyes from it !! Nothing much more than that as I am not much informed about the technical details of the car .
Cheers mate and kudos for taking all the pain for modding this beauty and updating the same on T bhp without any delay

Default W124 - Everlasting beauty

Super thread. W124 is a masterpiece.Hope you enjoy this everlasting built like tank car. I think you can go ahead and try changing the interiors. Leather in beige or black will suit the car.And get in done by professional folks.

Congrats on getting the car done. IMO the interiors seem to be showing its age. BTW the chrome slat on the front grille (LHS) seems to be missing.

Thanks & I do hope to enjoy it , as for the interior, I shall look at it again post-drycleaning. As for the leather, if & when I go for it, it would have to be a deep shade of blue, as that is the colour of the dashboard & door trims..it would be Stanley whenever it happens.

Thanks, yes like I said the interiors are dirty right now, let's see how much the drycleaning helps. As for the chrome slat , thanks for pointing it out. I hope that is available as an extra. Will check it out.

Ricky, i believe the external OVRM's came with black colour and not body coloured as you are having currently. Also was there any body cladding on the lower part of the doors that you got removed later?

It looks so graceful yet muscular ! Absolutely drool stuff. Kudos to you for not compromising on the restoration process.

Is the left 'sail' panel yet to be fitted?

I see you've got Yoko V550's. I've just bought a set. Wonderful tyres. Very silent yet grippy. Perfect for the car.
