Those of us who have suffered a possible infraction for whatever reason tend to be extra cautious, like me, hence the disclaimer in some of my posts recommending any product to a fellow member on Team BHP.

Such product information is quoted and recommended routinely on another detailing thread that you recommended - A superb Car cleaning, polishing & detailing guide.

One can face infraction if one uses this forum for commercially promoting products or services and not if one is recommending those products with or without a positive or negative feedback.

So request you to please share the names of those magic potions with or without a disclaimer. Thanks in advance, Cheers

It`s good to know that you liked the outcome.
To answer your queries, I followed the steps as mentioned below -

a. wash
b. clay
c. scratch
d. polish
e. sealant
f. wax

It`s pretty simple and straight forward, just that we need to be patient as the application is time taking and be ready to take the physical activity (good for health though ). If you have DA etc, it`ll be faster and better too !

* There are many good products available in India today, and if applied properly most of them should yield fantastic results. I am not using any special products. Now if you are thinking whats wrong in sharing the product name ??

a. Wash --> preferably pressure wash with quality car shampoo
b. clay --> mothers
c. & d scratch & polish --> meguiar`s
d. sealant --> meguiar`s
e. wax- c845

--------------

protectant / tire shine - meguiar`s / foam : meguiar`s, spray : formula1, gel - meguiar`s

@fastraj : there are multiple spots in my Polo (chip removing paint) which cannot be repaired unless repainted or with touch up paint. I am in the process of finalizing the touch up paint for VW Polo Flash Red, once I receive the product and apply it, shall share the outcome. As far as daily maintenance, car duster (Jopasu in my case) is enough, less water wash the better. Hope I am able to answer your queries.

Very nice effort.
I probably have missed this, but did you mention earlier where you purchased the Meguiars products in Pune?
I think 3M is an authorized dealer; maybe I can check with them @ Viman Nagar.
From ebay.in, it appears Meguiars' products are very expensive compared to Mothers' products.

Yes, you can try out the 3M showroom @VimanNagar, they stock Meguiar`s. Last I checked 3 weeks ago they didn't have some of the products I was looking for. I bought few from them and rest online through amazon.

Mother`s products are easily available through ebay.in at Indian prices as they are shipped from within India.

My car has some half a dozen chips on its paint surface, exposing the primer underneath, some as large as 2mmØ.

I contacted our VW dealer service and some other service centres but they all suggested that the entire panel/area, be repainted again.

I chanced across some really good information on how to repair those paint chips using a DIY process. Although, exhaustive and time consuming, IMO, its well worth the effort.

I am trying to source the Flash Red, Water Based paint for our Polo. AvonA7, please share some information on where you are sourcing the Flash Red, Water Based, Polo paint from?

Thanks in advance, Cheers

They will suggest a complete repaint, that`s their job
I think the paint removed by stone chip etc are beyond our control and it`ll happen all the time. I have many of them and we cannot repaint the entire panel always.

Same here, but still not able to find anything within India. However online it is easily avaialble (UK, US). I checked with few local garage, they don't have VW F Red and some of them said they`ll check if its available locally, the quantity/price etc. I need to check with them again. Some of them suggested for 1-2 mm paint surface I can use Maruti Red color also This suggestion is not actually bad, don't think that would make much of a difference for a tiny spot.

I mean its a giude, outlining some basic detailing & painting tools & techniques in 16 steps to eliminate chips on your paint using a D-I-Y process.

Maruti Red :( Let me try and source the original VW Flash Red Polo paint. I guess we wont need much for touchup.

Attached is a sample picture for some clarification.

Welcome AvonA7, the printout of the VIN Report, from our dealer, which came with our car quotes the color code as D8D8/FZ? Which is the correct code?

Edit: The VIN Report I bought online says D8/P3G. So D8/P3G it is after all.

AvonA7: Please stop lying. Admit that you changed your car!

Coming to the point - Unless we do it ourselves, we cannot have the work done to such perfection. I wish I was not lazzzzy....

Superb!!

AvonA7, now I am convinced that you bought a new car.

Look at points 'A' & 'B' in the picture. How can anyone possibly clean those areas and make them shine like more than new? Even a new car at the dealers is never that clean. No amount of pressure water cleaning can give that look, leave alone applying a black trim protectant in such difficult to access, areas.

Please admit it, you got a new car or else I am coming down to Pune to check the car and its papers myself.

Hydraulics lifter are best for car under-body wash.
The gap between the tire and the wheel arch increases more than twice when car is lifted using the hydraulics lifter, giving easy access to otherwise (when parked on ground) difficult to reach area inside the wheel well (refer pic).

Easy to clean. I generally ask the guy to wash the wheel well using the shampoo with a separate cloth and then clean with pressure wash. Allow it to dry and that`s it - a clean wheel well, then use any appropriate shine with a cloth to apply it evenly on the wheel well.

It`ll look as good as new. During dry weather a normal cleaning once a week with a cloth will keep it clean for a long time. Next time you go for pressure wash, give it a try !
