Default Need some Technical details of Nano

I was wondering if somebody has information on the following or if you could measure on a Nano :

1.Steering arm length : Distance between the Rack & Pinion end (also called Outer Ball Joint) to the axis of rotation of Steering Knuckle.

From the tech specs > One turn of Steering wheel gives 32mm rack displacement

2. Max wheel angles

3.Specifications of the AC compressor used - atleast the wattage

One more Nano goes up in flames! # 6 and counting.

I hope all your Nano owners have atleast 2 Fire extinguishers readily available in your cars near the front seats?

Looks pretty dramatic on TV. I also wonder how the reporters got there so quickly, with the flame just at the rear engine bay.

It's 3 nano's not 6 as you mentioned. Being a senior member you are expected to be accurate in your posts.

^^ Danny is only quoting the media... and media flashed all the 6 events with date and place... And, there are many unofficial news of more minor fire events. Out own KollamRaja's tryst with a smokey starter motor is NOT one of the media's 6... So our senior' Daniel is of course NOT accurate by under-estimating the 6

Nano in flame # 6 ( Presuming due to Manufacturing defect)
Nano Sold ~100000
Defect %=0.00006

Similar data for other small cars like Santro / M-800/ Spark/Alto etc.
Any Mate on TBhp?

Cheers

These are some links from the media:

Tata Motors Says Nano Car Caught Fire in New Delhi, Investigating Cause - Bloomberg

Third Tata Nano burns | Rush Lane

Third Nano goes up in flames, this one in Delhi - India Business - Business - The Times of India

All the above links mention it as 3 not 6. Well, if you want to look at the incorrect ones be satisfied then I can't help you. Also, KollamRaja's fire issue isn't it a non-issue.

So Mr sanagg1 wont bother if he were in that 0.00006. TATA needs more of loyalists like you.

Nano is a great car alright, but these car burning incidents cant be written off. TATA has either done too little of testing or too much of cost cutting.

Do you see how many test mules of ARIA are running around all over the country and also in few other countries? Why didn't TATA test the Nano the same way? The value of life is the same irrespective of whether it is an ARIA or a Nano!

I was browsing the hindu website and a small popup kept saying Nano bookings have reopened. Is it true? I have checked on the net and there is absolutely no information from the TATA's on this. There also was some information of an upgarded NANO with a much larger engine and no booking / waitlist formalities are all these stories ture?

Default Test-Driven : TATA NANO!

I have kept it here because an international (American) publication saw fit to provide a contrarian view of a car conceived to meet the expectations and desire of millions of our countrymen ( and hopefully similar millions elsewhere and the not so unfortunate too, in developed economies who require a vehicle to meet their basic transportation needs) -the Nano.

Yes, you read it right, I chanced upon the following article in BusinessWeek : Fifty Ugliest Cars of the Past 50 Years: Tata Nano - BusinessWeek in which the Nano finds itself.

Whereas this admittedly surprising news might prompt hysterical reactions from some of us who are jingoistically inclined, I prefer to attribute the inclusion of the cute Nano in this dubious list to a continuing strain of judgmental myopia of 'experts', who are unable to comprehend or do not want to comprehend the seismic shift of economic activity back to the East, to Asia and specifically to India.

The Nano has to win not only in India, but also in other developing countries, before casting it spell in the developed economies and on the 'developed' experts. This might happen with suitable design modifications to make it fit with local driving, traffic, safety environments and social expectations.

Do I sound a wee bit miffed? You bet!

I have no doubt that Nano (and by extrapolation, India) is destined for greatness and to take its rightful place, by dint of quality of design, manufacturing, after sales service, reliability, fuel efficiency, timely upgrades, customer feedback and by fair play and ethical trade practices. The latter can't be said of many corporates in the developed world.

Regards

P.S. : It might not be so bad after all; the article includes the Bangled 7 Series, the new Beetle and the Enzo too. So our national treasure seems to be in good company

I would say, this is a very good sign. Remember the Santro used to be called as ugly duckling when it was introduced in India & later became the sunshine car? I'm sure Nano will improve in the forth coming years & so does the cost & Tata's are well known to make good looking cars.

What the... The Nano ugliest? Just some western dreamland journalist seems to make it up.Also why the hatred towards the 70s cars? ,but the Nano is cool to look at,even though it's not beautiful in the conventional sense.Well, looks are highly subjective.
Also what's the DMC Delorean,Toyota Rav4,Cadillac Escalade,Chevy Avalanche,Enzo doing in this list? Even the Hummer that's being stupidly revered in our country thanks to films finds it's way in the list(he..he...deserves it)
But agree with most of the list, most of the cars look toyish and made from materials resembling cloth, plastic etc. But apart from the Rodius there is not a single korean or chinese car!!! C'mon there is enough chinese, korean eyesores that can replace most of the listed cars.

While I'd agree that the Indian Nano is hardly a looker, the Nano Europa looks quite fantastic! I'd get one tomorrow if I could... tasty 14" rims and good tints is all it needs. What's their problem anyway, calling it one of the ugliest ever?

Oh, forget about the foreign media. Their criteria for judging a car (apart from obvious bias) is different and so are their customers requirements. They cannot appreciate the fact that an Indian manufacturer as come out with one of the best packaged concepts of the last few decades and are simply frustrated. Come on, could any of their major auto cos think of developing a sub $3000 car? Of course, they might say that there is no requirement... and I agree, that while they might not need it, we do. Sadly, the fire incidents (now 7 in Total) would give them some more ammo.... well, ow about all the Lamboghini Gallardo's and Ferrari 458's catching Fires (over 10??). And those cars cost wayyyyyyyy more than any Nano could ever do.
