Passat is 4705mm Long and Superb is 4803mm long. So not a great stretch

Further I think the expected price of Passat is 23-25 lakhs (Ex-showroom) and not 28 lakhs...

Well, for starters, the Passat is supposedly 4765mm long, but I don't think a car's value is largely determined by its length and secondly, the March issue of Autocar (Page 39) quotes the price as Rs. 28 lakhs (plus options); that's where I got the figures from.

In any case, at 28 lakhs odd, the Passat has to face the Skoda Superb which is bigger, comfier, more luxurious, more powerful AND cheaper. Then there's the C class, 3 series (launching locally next year) and the A4, which, to be fair are all smaller cars, but which carry infinitely more brand prestige and are priced just one notch higher, so I think this VW will need some VERY CLEVER marketing to take on both these sets of rivals and succeed.

Of course if it is priced closer to 23-24 lakhs it will make it a FAR MORE tempting proposition.

ive heard laura uses the same chassis as octavia all they do is get laura kits made and fit them on..is it true??

If you're asking if it's the same chassis as the Indian Octavia, the answer is no.

nos, laura is a different car all together.the wheel base chassis etc.

It uses same chasis as (European) Octavia, because there it is still known as Octavia not Laura

(the old one is renamed to Octavia Tour)

The chassis for the Laura (local brand name in India - all round the world it is called "new Octavia") is the VW's A5. Some details are given in the pointer below:

Which engine options are available for Laura? And which ones are planned to be introduced? Is the RS version planned?

I don't think the Laura RS will be lauched anytime soon..Right now they are even having probs delivering the Laura to its customers, so they are forced to wait for sometime before they can get their hands on it.

Yes the engine will be launched in the Audi A4 and VW Passat.

I have read somewhere that New Octavia in Europe is going to get 170 bhp 2.0 TDI engine. 350 Torque... Wonder when will it come to India...?
