@Soccerfan Diff Oil has to be changed in the Thar during the first service, hence got it done.

@Spike I will get back to you regarding the billing.

Janjua.

Any word on the AC yet? and what about the hard top? The dealer here told me that they would install the AC and it would cost 40k. I"m a little apprehensive, but no a/c would be fatal. What do i do?

Also spoke to Prabhu in HYD and he's dont making the mould for the FRP hardtop and is asking for 1.2 lakh. Is that resonable? I am in Delhi and cant take it to HYD. Alternative - he ships it to me. All put together - doesnt get me excited.

Anyone know any Hardtop creation people who can do FRP in and around Delhi? Or should i get aluminium? Any contacts there? Cant drive the THar without AC and hardtop. Below are the pics from Prabhu. He's creating the rubicon hardtop. Please help

Gandalf18,

If you can wait till end of this month/early next month - am working on a HT which should end up being less than a lakh.

PM me if you want some details.

Hi akshay4587,

That is swell!
I had gone to Jalandhar to attend a wedding.
I am glad you liked it. But, are you sure it was me? Rocky Beige Thar with Stock tyres with LTD sticker on the back?

Warm regards,
Sandeep.

Gandalf18 - could not find a way to PM you either - thats why the post. You can call me @ 9900246668. The top is indeed FRP and can send you more details over email. Not sure why the PM function is not working.

We are looking at a 2 section top - one for the front and one for the rear with tempered automotive glass.

Did you manage to get this fixed and stop it from coming off. Did they just glue the cover to the body?

Oh yes, it was fixed at the time of the 1st service. No problem ever since.
I don't think any glue was used. The fitting has been perfect ever since.

I have some great news regarding the HT for the Thar.
While driving down from Shimla last night, I saw a vehicle that looked very much like the Thar ahead of me near Dharampur. I thought it was not the Thar but my nephew who was sitting besides me was convinced that it was the Thar.
The reason I had my reservations was because it was a HT with a rear door with a handle!! It looked awesome.
The driver of the above mentioned vehicle was going at a rather fast pace and I had to catch up with him and I signalled him (dippers) and then requested him to halt.
He obliged and I got out to talk to him. Was that useful or what?
He had a modified HT with a big rear window and sliding windows on the sides along with a rear lockable door (heavy). Also the top was so designed that one can open it from inside (he had it customised to do 'Shikaar'). The roof was also 'lockable' from inside. The whole feel to the modification was SOLID. Only blemish was somewhat of an uneven finish to the rear door, that also only visible when lights hit the rear at an angle.
The owner Mr Gurjit Singh from Machhiwara, Punjab had got the whole thing done at Moga, Punjab.
Can you guys guess the cost for the job?? 19K!!
I wish I could have clicked some photographs at the time, but it was very late in the night and I did not want to inconvenience the kind gentleman further, as he had been very kind to stop and show the vehicle to me.
I have the number of the fabrictor and I will talk to him tomorrow.
If all goes well, I am going to drop off the Thar at Moga on the coming Sunday. It took 12 days for Mr Gurjit Singh's Thar to be modified, so let us see how things go.
I will keep all you guys posted regarding the developments.

@januga:

This must be great news for many Thar owners. Wonder if Mahindra can hire Mr. Gurjit Singh as a consultant to design an OEM hard top.

They maybe also an engineer available from Force Motors as the Gurkha came with a hard top and soft top option.

Hey thats good news. Was the hard top also removable so as to take it off once a year when the weather is really awesome for the open jeep feel?

19k for the whole thing is simply superb. You can always expect surprises from punjab instead of the cribbing that we have been seeing from every other place.Great great news.
