Some more from this drive. We were desperately searching for the leapord sighted yesterday afternoon. Also, got the news that some gypsy saw leapord in the morning drive. However, could not see a leapord.

I've been looking at this lens for a long long time. Is the old one available and if yes, where?

The Shikara pictures have come out really well, Subrat. Voted 5stars.

@ gd1418: you are actively looking for a 4L lens? I lust over it too, but I will get divorce papers if I even talk about buying one :-)

Oh Nilanjan, have been actually & seriously looking for the 200~400 Nikkor f/4 as that would sort of complete my gear. The other budget option that I'm considering is a 300mm f/4 with a TC 1.4 - should give me a range of 630mm on my D300.

I've been threatened with divorce along with being thrown out of my own house (in my name..) on my every camera equipment/mobile/iMac/iPad purchase, but I've always managed to call the bluff. I have, everytime dared her to do so and emerged winner all the time.. Would try my luck one last time with this bazooka and an another camera body - preferably a D800 (as & when it launches) or the D3s.

No idea if anyone has bought this lens. I even asked many Nikonian friends of mine, but no one has this lens. Maybe because the cost is prohibitively high in India. Did you try amazon or anywhere in USA? During thanksgiving time in Nov-Dec it may be possible to get a good deal on the lens in US.

You are lucky :-). For tactical and financial reasons, I don't want to push right now. Also, I don't feel that I have mastered my D90 fully yet - though I crave for a faster and sharper lens.

The 300mm f/4 with 1.4X extension is a droolworthy combo.

Since all of us went to the MP forests recently, am sharing some personal feelings regarding photography:

1. It makes sense to have a second camera body to capture the beautiful landscapes, especially in Kanha. I didn't have one, so had to resort to cropping images from 70-300 for landscapes.

2. Anticipation + steady hands + burst mode are very useful in wildlife photography.

3. A driver who is a photographer makes a difference - many drivers stopped at a place from where they could see the animal, but the rearmost person (I took most of my photos from the Gypsy rear seat) couldn't. You get a few seconds to take a good shot, before the animal moves or other vehicles come.

4. I should have increased the ISO to 1600 for some pictures. I limited ISO to 800, and as a result got some blurred pictures that would have been great if they had come out sharp. But then again, I was using a 4.5-5.6 lens.

Running little slow perhaps. Please bear with me.

We all were excited to shift to Baghira for two nights. After morning drive, we back to Mridu Kishore Resort for Breakfast. Then We shifted to Baghira Log huts. Location is perfect. Food quality is good. But service is very poor. AC is not working, water problem etc. This is the first time we came across such a bad service of MP Tourism resort. I forget all luxury when i am in jungle. But basic problem was water. when we fired them left and right, they asked for water tanker and the problem solved.

Any ways, after lunch, we started for our afternoon drive. Satish came exactly on time. He said Sir wild dog pack (around 1 nos) is relaxing opposite Baghira Log huts road. We went there first.

There was a layer of dry sal leafs and the brown colour wild dogs were sleeping on that. They were so cameflaged that difficult to see them.

Here are the pictures of the evening drive.

The gypsy running pic shows that a tiger in Kanha meadows. It sighted from far and for a minute and did not came out of the famous nulla. We waited and probably the tiger stalking for a kill.

Thumbs up Re: Adventure in Kipling Country - Kanha National Park

wow! Great pics - specially of the jungle cat.
i have been following this and other "jungle" threads avidly for some time now, finally got my membership on t-bhp and can show appreciation.
i am a newbie photographer with a passion for wildlife. All these threads on jungles in MP are really motivating to do the trip myself.
again - cool pics.
