Wow Man, that's a lot of distance! Congratulations for completing an amazing journey. Nicely written. Loved the photos you posted. All the best for your future journeys, keep us posted
Just out of curiosity, how did the car handle on icy roads?

I did :-)....I think the forum requires ratings from 3 different folks before the rating stars are displayed.

Yes, the Toy would enjoy such a trip. Maybe next year.

Were you in arty? I once spent one month in Mandu/Mandi near Pathankot.

@ Droolingvoyager: droolworthy photos! How did you get 'permission' from family for such a long trip? Please share the tips :-)

Wari la & Zanskar Valley road do not open till late June. In any case, they are not easily navigable for sedans at that time and the roads to these sectors stabilise only by August-September.

Here is the link to our TL on Ladakh drive:

The yellow sticker rule is applicable only in GJ and PB and I have never faced any problem on that count - nor have I seen any RJ vehicle having the stickers - in RJ.

Thanks for the link. I guess I was looking for the thread initiated by you.

I gather for last few post that you are doing it again this year.
Good luck to you all.
Can you share your itinerary?

Regard
Dinesh

I leave Bombay on Aug 11th night and return on Sep 4th night.
Itinerary is Bombay-Delhi-Kinnaur Valley-Spiti Valley-Lahaul Valley-Leh-Kargil-Zanzkar Valley (Padum)-Nubra Valley (Turtuk)-Wari la-Pangong-Chushul-Hanle-Tso Moriri-Keylong-Sach Pass-Dalhousie-Delhi-Bombay.
We are probably around 10-15 cars and 25+ people from various cities in India.

Wow.. looks tempting.
If only I had not returned from Spiti last month with my family, I would have requested you to take me in the convoy.

No, i was not in Arty. I was in Signals and we had our unit next to River Ravi in Madhopur and we used to go for a jog on its bank! It was lovely.

@ droolingvoyager

You have not completed your travelogue. How did you return from Leh and which route did you take?

Hey, the return was very unexciting. Alone, trying to cover 3500Kms in 3 days. I drove non stop from Rohtang to Ajmer in about 26 hrs. Slept like a hog. Toook an AC room, and did not realize that it was straight from 0 degrees to 50 degrees. Woke up mid afternoon and nearly collapsed when I came out. Evening had a visit to Khawaja Nizaammuddin Chisti Dargah and boy it was so refreshing and calming experience.

Started late evening again, but after 2-3 hr, near to Nathdwara, was feeling fatigued, so took a room in a wayside hotel and slept again. Next day slept till 4 PM and went for Sri Krishna's Visit, Nathdwara. It was again wonderful. After a lot of spiritual stuff, started late around 9 PM from Nathdwara and over non-stop 32 hrs reached bangalore which was 2300 Kms. I just did not wish to halt and delay myself. I was also feeling very fresh throughout so no risks taken.

that ends around 8K of solo driving. In the last 3 years of this trip, I have been busy with short trips and lots of other stuff. Another long drive is around the corners for 2015.

thanks all for voting this thread to 5 stars. My Apologies for revisiting this after such a long time.
