Photo Courtesy for the below pics to AR aka Ashwin Rao.Because I was busy saying good bye to half of our team.

Debring became one of the most memorable place in the mind of the entire IPHE team. 20 days ago we all came from different cities, states and even countries and continents away. Not many of them knew each other in the Team. But today we became one family and the thought of separation and Expedition is almost ended made everyone's heart sink. Even though we were smiling. Each and every team member had heavy hearts and eyes wet when we bid goodbye to each other.

Because some of us may or will be able to meet each other. But for the some other we didnt know whether we will ever be meet again.:(

Bol Bolero looks sad while KSM_VTec trying to smile. While in the backgroud rest of the team is shaking hands and bidding good bye.

That was indeed a close call. The TT was climbing up a steep slope onto the road and the Baby Alto was in the convoy when the TT suddenly loomed up onto the road - very much like a Shark coming out of the water in the old movie "Jaws". I believe there were some hot words exchanged, but I guess neither had any options - it was a steep slope up for the TT and there was no way that TT could have stopped - else it would have broken its momentum - or for NED to have stopped since he could not see the TT anyway! One of those lucky moments.

It was quite a round of good byes then, but then surprise surprise....... the world is round, and we are to meet again 2 days later!!!! Howzzat - that will be known as this TL rolls on......

BTW, the bonds we built during this trip are quite strong - different members of the team are in touch with each other, at least once a week, and we have had reunion meetings - not all together though - in Bombay, Bangalore & so on. In fact, today we have a small get-together!!!

In case you do not recall, the final members at this point are:
HVK Scorpio - HVK & Lalu
JC Bolero - JC, NJ, TS, JP
BolBolero Bolero - BolBolero, SSj, AR
Swift 1 - KSM-vTEC, YP
Swift 2 - AP, doctoroque
Baby Alto - NED

making it 5 cars & 14 of us.

Quote:

IPHE - B team was to take the Debring-Leh-Kargil-Dras-Sonmarg-Srinagar-Udhmapur-Jammu-Pathankot route back to the plains, the same route that BolBolero had done on his onward journey. INterestingly, that would have meant that the JC Bolero would have done the Leh-Kargil-Leh sector 3 times during this trip!

Maybe we should have used more sun-block cream!
Don't be fooled by the heat, it remains very cold throughout, but the high altitude burns the skin so badly that most of us had cracked lips and sun-tanned complexions.

Quote:

A big round of applause for the cars that took us safely and reliably through the full trip - quite a circus - and we are extremely grateful that they stood the test of the unforgiving terrain very well. I am sure all of you will agree - it has been a parade of good & bad trails throughout the drive.

TS bidding Adios to IPHE Team A

TS was one of the most lively members of the team, astonishing us every moment with his knowledge of India & experiences from his travels to faraway places around the world. Surely one of the best men in any team. His joviality, temperament & stamina kept us cheerful & at our best too - since we youngsters cannot complain of fatigue & hardship when someone as old (read, young!) as TS could bear all the rigour so well.

It is really unbelievable how attached we got in these 20 days that we lived together.

Believe me the sadness in each ones heart at this point was due to the group splitting and not the trip coming towards the end.

The attachment was such that we have made it a point to meet at least once a month.

We also meetup around birthdays and whenever teammates visit other cities.

Day 20
31st August 2011
Tso Moriri - Karzok - Debring- Leh

Jeep Captain's PhotoLogue

After bidding good bye @ Debring to IPHE Team A HVK, Lalu, BolBolero,SS, KSM_VTec,YP, AP & KP.

We proceeded to Leh Town with a heavy heart.
No one was talking in the Discovery Bolero. Every one was so quiet because we all felt so sad not that the Expedition ended so fast, but we the IPHE Team is splitting.

Debring to Leh drive was so boring this time. One reason my Bolero and team was doing it for the second time ( while I had gone for my Kaza -Cochin self Expedition). So it was a straight run with not much photo stops.

But at the same time we all are still excited about tomorrow. Sept 1st. Its a Big Day for us in many ways. First of all it is Leh Festival, Which TS aka Tadek wanted to see and experience and click lotsa pictures. That was one of the reason why we planned in such a way that we can try to be in Leh ( again for the third time) during this Expedition. Second I have a very important appointment in Leh which I couldn't afford to miss.

There was one more reason for us why we decided to do Leh-Kargil-Srinagar-Delhi route. We were not sure what is waiting for us in Sach Pass and if any reason if we get stuck or any vehicle break down. Then me and TS aka Tadek might miss out flights back to Dubai and Warsaw (Poland).

We reached Leh by 2:00 PM IIRC. and most of the restaurants in the Town was closed due to Eid. Finally after little bit of running around we found a good restaurant and after many days we had a full proper lunch.

Now let the pic speaks..

Day 21
1st September 2011

Jeep Captains Photologue

Ladakh Festival

Some details below. Source journeymart website.
When: 1st - 15th September 2012
Where: Leh (Ladakh)

Ladakh, tucked away in the bitterly cold reaches of the Himalayas, lies cut off from the rest of the world for the better part of the year. But, come summer and the entire region suddenly comes back to life, in a vibrant burst of vitality which lasts through the all-too-brief summer. It’s a period of warmth and joy, when Ladakh plays host to thousands of visitors from across the globe. The fun lasts till late September, when winter starts setting in again; but before that happens, there’s one final round of partying, in the form of the Ladakh Festival. The Ladakh Festival highlights the sports and culture of the region, in a weeklong extravaganza of dances, music, handicrafts and sports.

The festival begins with a long procession, of local leaders, schoolchildren and dancers, which makes its way through Leh. What follows is seven days of lion dances, yak dances, craft stalls, excellent local food and plenty of the heady barley beer known as chang! Archery contests are held at Skara (near Leh), and polo matches, white-water rafting expeditions and treks are organised as well. All in all, it’s one of the best times to visit Ladakh- a time when you can get a really good feel, at close quarters, of this wildly beautiful cold desert.
