It was a photography/trekking trip. I would not recommend this for families esp with kids. Couples who love the outdoors and dont mind moderate physical exertion may do it. Then again, accommodation and food is pretty basic. So you are looking for a luxury vacation, this aint that

Something to add to my (long-pending) to-do list. This promises to be an interesting travelog.
Thanks
Russia is a beautiful country but like you said I saw very few Indian tourists out there. I am not not talking about Kamchatka (where I didnt expect any Indians either) but even in Moscow its quite unlike other cities where every 5th guy is an Indian

Used a lot of camera gear but 80% of the images are with a Canon 1DMkIV and a 70-200 2.8 lens.

Amazing travelogue. Unexpected place to go for a photo shoot. Keep them coming. Many of us here would never be able to go to these places but the photographs are sure treat to our eyes. I have already made the sitting mama bear as my desktop background :-). Please share more details about people you met and unforgettable moments as well.

I know, its really a bad time to be doing this. But I ll try my best

Coming back to the photologue,

DAY 4 & 5 : It all about the bears

The main idea behind this trip was to see Brown bears up close in the wild. Thus the next two days were spent taking excursions to different salmon spawning sites hoping to see bears catching migrating salmon. Over the two days, we saw atleast 30 different bears with some of them fishing yards away from us. We were also on the lookout for the Steller’s Sea eagle, one of the largest eagles in the world. Unfortunately, these birds are more common in winter and I managed to see it just once during the excursions. Since the main attraction for this trip were the bears, I have shot quite a lot of bear images. So please forgive me if it gets a bit monotonous seeing so many bear images. I will try to post only the few decent ones to make it less tedious for you guys.

Few images from Day 3 & Day 4

No problem, we know you can do multi-tasking very well . Ok, now my only doubt here: some of the images here are as good as what I have seen in NatGeo mags, so why was a poor bird in Kanha sent to BP ?

DAY 6

Today afternoon, we took a helicopter to the the Khodutka River for a bath in Kamchatka's largest natural hot spring.

After a refreshing dip in the thermal springs, we were dropped at our campsite for the night on the Mutnovsky Volcano plateau. It was freezing out there and the wind was howling mad. Fortunately, we were provided with good quality Vaude tents which blocked the wind perfectly. So after a swig of strong Russian Nalivka(berry liqueur) to keep ourselves warm, we decided to call it a night.

We really dived in..it was amazingly refreshing

At the campsite, tents were small but cosy and did their job

This is where we spent the night with all our gear

Amazing Travelogue Robi. I was eagerly waiting for this travelogue after seeing those pictures on non-auto image thread last year.

The landscape of the area is breathtaking and that small lake side cottage is stunning.

If possible, please share the details around logistic and costs of the trip.

Superb photolog Robimahanta, rated 5 stars. In fact the photos are so awesome that I ended up checking out all your previous t/p-logs. I suggest you start a thread on photography skills
The pics are stunning, neat, great angles, color and topped up by great caption.

The trip required extensive planning with pulling a few strings here and there with the authorities. A major chunk of which was done by my friend. And yeah, it was expensive compared to say a regular international vacation.
Please PM me IF you are seriously interested and I ll give you some leads.

DAY 7

The Volcano trek

After breakfast, we set out on an AWD truck which dropped us at the foothills of Skalisty and Dvugorby volcanoes. Then we started the climb to the pass between Mutnovsky and Dvugorby, from where Asacha, Opala and Gorely volcanoes are seen. After a long tiring hike we reached the mouth of the caldera exit gorge. The walk up the gorge is mainly hard snow , that has accumulated in winter avalanches off the gorge walls.
When the wind blows the steam plume from the active crater, then the vigorous fumaroles and solfataras at its source can be seen on the crater floor.
This was the most tiring day of the trip and by the time we reached the campsite we were exhausted to the core. But we pushed on and headed back to PKC overnight for the upcoming marine expedition
