Default Langkawi Malaysia - A pictologue

This was the third trip to this beautiful island off Malaysia, my earlier trips were described in the following threads.

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/travel...ise-earth.html (Pulau Langkawi- A small piece of Paradise on earth.)

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/travel...-regained.html (Langkawi- Paradise Regained)

This time it was destination Langkawi for the first trip abroad for our little year old daughter. Since the island has been described in the past, I will use this opportunity to just post photos taken this time with brief descriptions of the same

Langkawi always holds a special place in our hearts, even a 4 night stay this time left us wanting for more, this easily is the best holiday destination for me and will definitely be back sometime again.
Cheers,
Hari.

Thanks Hari. Langkawi is definitely a must visit place and is known for greenery and forests.
BTW, are there any trekking trails in the region which one can explore? Also, was it a self drive car you hired?

I said it once before, now you are lucky for the 3rd time you dawwwgg . How did the little one do with the flights and the travel hari ? I am actually toying the idea of a south east asia trip some time soon , but my daughter's comfort has been a major reason for concern. She kinda gets restless even on 300kms road trips inspite of multiple stops. Gets me thinking if she would be able to cope up with a 3+ hours flight.

That said nice pictures and dint take a ride in the cable car ? What about the sky bridge pal, one of the most sought after attractions from Langkawi.

BTW dint you manage to stand the car at the beach and get it towed this time around ?

Luke
Thanks for sharing the pictologue.
Really beautiful pictures. Gives a good idea of how beautiful the place must be in real.

Can u please share the costs etc involved, flights, visa, stay, car rental, overall trip cost per head so on?

Are the first few pics tilted or is it just me?

@Fauji,
There are plenty of trails for trekking as well as cycling, a lot of companies too offer the same along with the "mangrove tours, snorkelling, island hopping" which are the main activities on the island. For nature activities, the best company is Dev's Adventures, they can be contacted at:

Dev's Adventure Tours

But for serious hikers, Borneo would be a better bet.
The car was self driven, you get a range of cars right at the airport for hire, depending on the season the charges as are as low as Rs.800/- per day onwards, fuel translates to about Rs.34.20 per litre, so hiring a car is the best way to explore the island.

@ Rjstlyes,
Riju, the main reason why we chose Langkawi in spite of having already seen the place twice before was the concern about our daughter, we wanted to go to a place where we knew the layout and knew exactly what could be done with an infant in tow.

It was her first flight and yes, she was getting cranky towards the end of the 4.5 hrs duration on the leg to KL, but luckily for us, the flight was not full so we moved to the back where we had plenty of empty rows for her to move around.

We did visit the cable car, unfortunately it was closed for maintenance on that particular day (we knew about it beforehand), also, this time we did not do anything adventurous other than laze around or go for leisurely drives, we clocked over 500kms in 3 days . And, NO, the little car was not taken anywhere near sand this time around, "once bitten, twice shy".

@ lsp,
from Bangalore Air Asia operates a single daily flight to Kuala Lumpur, if booked about 3 months in advance, the return fare per head is approximately 30k (Blr-LGK-Blr), we of course had to pay a lot more as we did not plan so much in advance. Visa costs about 800 per head if applied for directly, a travel agent charges about 2.5k (in our case) per visa.

From KL, there are hourly flights to Langkawi starting at 0730 hrs, it is of one hour duration.

Hotels are plenty and costs vary as per season (low and high), location and luxury.

Car hire is very reasonable as I have said earlier, it is pretty easy to navigate as the roads are well marked and traffic is sparse. Food again is available everywhere if one is ok with local cuisine, but tends to be expensive if eaten in resorts and hotels, but then again, we have found out the best eateries on the island after repeated visits. The entire island is duty free, so shopping is fun.

Very nice pics indeed. Had seen this thread earlier but was not able to get back to it. Langkawi is a really nice honeymoon destination.

Have recommended it to many and more, since it is though exclusive, it is not extremely crowded and yes highly affordable on many of our pockets.

Good to bring all the sights of Langkawi in your TL.

It is true paradise for people who wants to have a peaceful vacation, I hated KL after coming back from Langkawi. 30K is sounding pricy, have the Air Asia rates gone up?
