Hi Guys.

I'm taking time out to write a log after quite a long time. Apologies for that.
This write up will mostly be trip details and a few photos. I did two trips in my Red Swift recently.
First one was Hyd-Pune-Mumbai-M'war-Hyd in June 2012 and second one Hyd-M'war in Oct'12.

I must admit I liked Mahabaleshwar a lot and would not mind going there again. I mean its not quite cold as Ooty here in south or Manali and upwards but its good and Rainy season is the best time i feel, as you can literally float among the clouds then. We did that in June, but OCT was a bit dry. But then we had post monsoon waters in OCT and in June all the waterfalls and seasonal lakes were dry.

All said and done, you can go there almost anytime you feel like!

I must thank RANJITP1 for his expert guidance in both trips for route and traffic info. Amazing coincidence was that in June when i was going he was doing Mum-Hyd the same day. I took NH9 all the way as I missed the turn into mohol for pandharpur route and he was coming from that route. And, in OCT when I took the pandharpur route, he was doing NH9! Coincidence was that we had made no plans and independently doing these road trips on same day! he he!

Details from OCT trip: (I dont have details from June trip, sorry)
Total KMs: 1280
Fuel (petrol): 75
Expenses: Fuel - 5500, Budget Hotel - 3000 (1000 per night, hot water on request), Shopping - Dont even ask!

We basically had two days for sight seeing. First day was adventure day and we went to Pratapgarh Fort and on the way found an isloated spot perfect for camping by the river koyna. Day 2 was leisure, so we sat around on Panchgani table tops and Mapro garden which is undergoing major renovation. There was a small lake on top of a plateau in Panchgani! We also revisited Venna lake which was almost full with monsoon waters. In june, we walked onto the lake bed with ease, but now we didnt even dare to go down. It was nice small trip, I had lots of wada pavs and poha, while wife did lot of shopping.

he he.. No. My wife does.

coming back On- Topic.. will be adding a few more snaps from my June trip soon. Thanks.

Hi! Unoczar, short and sweet travelogue. Did you take the Mohol- Pandharpur- Satara road in either of your trips. If yes, would appreciate some inputs on the road conditions.

Thanks

Yes, another nice TL from Unoczar. The last one to Horseley Hills was quite good.

Do update us on the road conditions from Mohol onwards. I know how bad the road is between Sadashivpet to Basav Kalyan as I'd recently gone to Shirdi.

Hi. Thanks. Did I not mention about the route? I guess not, sorry. Here we go,
June: Missed the turn into mohol and continued straight on NH9, had to fight with traffic and diversions all the way and Pune too! Great help by RanjitP1 on bypassing Pune (I first went to Mumbai back then, pics coming up soon). While coming back we did M'war-Satara-Pandharpur-Mohol-Sholapur-Hyd. Road not bad at all! Although, an SUV would ensure a smoother ride, but, i would take this Pandharpur road anyday instead of the lorry madness on NH9!

This OCT trip we took the mohol-pandharpur-satara route both ways (no mumbai/pune this time) and it was a breeze! Some rough stretches in between, but, as I said, if you go in a Safari or Scorpio, you wont feel a thing. One more thing, the Zaheerabad-Humnabad (small stretch) is in very poor condition as of now(OCT). Need lot of patience negotiating those craters there.

5. It's also called VT, I wonder why? CST is pretty obvious, but VT?

It was built during the British rule. They named it as the Victoria Terminus and hence the name VT.

After the Indians took over, we renamed it to Chatrapati Shivaji Terminus, popularly knows as CST.

Nice pics there. Seems you had been doing a Mumbai Darshan around. Do keep an eye in the SPOTTING'S thread in case someone might have just caught you roaming!lol:

So, now we reached Mahabaleshwar. We had around 4 days to explore the place.
