That was definitely a nice meet. Was in touch with Karthik to see If I could make it, but the commitments for the weekend after a hectic week did not allow.

Will try making it to the next meet.

Thanks for sharing!

This is the first platform where IMO ladies and children can climb upto

After this the slope to climb increases and the steps also are not there. Only a railing to hold and climb.

Very difficult but doable.

Some pics of the 1st platform

As we started out climb again from this platform we came across some more beautiful pics.

Just showcasing the surrounding again from the mid way

Fantastic photographs guys, and nice report Addyhemmige, vinu_h and shishir! Bring out the remaining photos too. Looks like you all had a nice time there, I'm just feeling low that I couldn't make it this time. Some details on the following would be required for our future use . Addyhemmige please help :

1. Eateries that you mention at the base of the hill: Are there decent eateries as in proper buildings? Or is it just a usual tourist-spot-ish roadside stall which sells Lays, Kurkure and cold drinks?

2. full route map from NICE road exit to Madhugiri fort? Any shortcuts or deviations you took?

3. Road conditions : were they good, bad, ugly? Car parking facilities : safe? monkey menace?

4. Are steps/railing present all the way till the top? Any monkey menace on the top or is it quiet and peaceful? Reason I ask is if I plan to take food up there and do a picnic.

We ate at a pure vegetarian restaurant. Modest setup - Table, chair, fan and wash basin. A very tasty meal cost us ~ Rs. 35 per head

2. full route map from NICE road exit to Madhugiri fort? Any shortcuts or deviations you took?

After the NICE road exit, we turned into Dobaspet and made for Madhugiri. There are a couple junctions where you'll need to ask for directions

3. Road conditions : were they good, bad, ugly?
NICE Road and NH = Excellent. Last 25 km is severely potholed

4. Are steps/railing present all the way till the top? Any monkey menace on the top or is it quiet and peaceful? Reason I ask is if I plan to take food up there and do a picnic.

Not all the way. Only at places where it is very steep. The climb is a bit intense but not as risky and dangerous as Kalavarahalli. . I noticed a couple mountain lizards. Find a big rock, spread a sheet and enjoy your picnic
The climb will be a lot easier if you're wearing boots that are meant for trekking.

Vinu has answered all the above questions. Just adding to it.

It is more or less a straightforward way all the way to Madhugiri. From the NH 4, you take a right turn under the Dobbaspet flyover towards Devrayanadurga. Continue straight till you reach Koratagere. At Koratagere you will join the Tumkur-Pavagada road, just continue straight (left goes to Tumkur). The next big town is Madhugiri. You will see the hill as you near Madhugiri. Take a left towards the fort/bus stand at the entrance of the town (straight goes to Pavagada). You also have the yellow Karnataka Tourism boards at many places.

Koratagere to Madhugiri has very bad roads.

You have railings where ever the climb is risky. But as you cross the third level, there are no railings till the top.

For car parking, you can enter the fort and park somewhere under a tree. But there are govt offices inside the fort and it might be difficult to find parking if you on Saturdays or weekdays. We had parked outside the fort compound.

For food, I would say pack some or head back to Dobbaspet/highway if you are with family or fussy about good ambiance. The food we had was decent enough though.

Nice report guys! Must have been fun, with early morning chill. But that must have vanished with the heat

Another place to visit next time: Drive further till Pavgada beyond Madhugiri on the Tumkur-Hindupur SH (towards Hindupur), and divert to Maidanahalli where you
have the black-buck sanctuary. When I went first time, I saw folks with Bazooka lenses and was thinking, what is that ! All I had was a 3MP Nokia cell phone camera !

This was the place which I had recommended before finalizing this place. That place has too many bird sightings also. We can have our next trip there.
