Default Kaas on the verge of blooming in September

Kaas is always on the cards as a routine trip with the advent of blooming season there in Sep-Oct. The timing does matter. It was then on 4 Sep 2011 that we had decided to head out for the early season visit, well knowing that there was still plenty of time for the blooming. But this was just to get the hang of it, never been in that period, also later it was not going to be possible for us in that duration of Sep-Oct 2011. Just bringing it out of the closet now.

So we did that yet another impromptu day trip, but from Pune having stayed the night over. Was going to think about the Thoseghar falls as well if time permitted given our mood of enjoying the platue in relaxed mood.

Looking back now, it was a good decision as we hardly had any time after that day till today to visit Kaas. And it was immediately after the Malshej Ghat day trip on 1 Sep 2011 turned out to be a double refresh for next 2 years.

Let the pics take on the journey as it followed...because more than the flowers it will be the journey that happened through the terrain, dense fog on the platue and its experience as the flowers were yet to come into their full bloom. There are already innumerable breathtaking pics on the forums itself, this one will be less of them and more of the experience of the place.

The route to the Kaas Platue

But soon after the toll, the road livens up again snaking through the terrain

And we find a Tata Xenon being tested and a RR for company for some distance upto the ghat, and then hard to keep up with they both vanish like they were never there

The ghat is pretty tricky especially not being a smooth for ride, traffic and turns mostly held up by the trailers and cars trying to overtake others zigzagging through the blocked traffic adding to the woes of the traffic through this narrow ghat

WHEN WILL PEOPLE LEARN TO RESPECT THESE PLACES? I am sure those who come here are learned enough to understand what kind of place this is.

This is really near the edge but not at the edge, feels like paragliding into the valley down instead of going down the same road.

Kaas on the verge of blooming in September-20110904-16.28.45.jpg

Again some sensibility would go a long way in keeping this place better. If somebody is enjoying the stuff out here for getting the high, they better have done it safely not riding/driving and should have had atleast the sense to clean up the mess afterwards. But then having got high, their attitudes too must have gone beyond reasoning.

Amazing change of perspective! I was there last week and it was all barren. Not even a shade of green !
But having said that both the colours are equally alluring! Nice greens there.

Yes, its quite a different world in midst of the rains and before blooming. Once the rains recede, one dearly misses the foggy experience the greens with dew drops there. Also it just feels like driving all the time slowly through that terrain that time. But then after this initial period, the flowers rule there and that is what most people flock there for.

Hey Ampere, no need to ask, shoot as much. As it is, this forum and all its content are open for all of us whoever will contribute.

These are some damn good views inspite of the dry season. When was this? This is good just to show nice different perspectives of the place in one thread.

@Parsh, This was Jan first week. We saw clear skies, brilliant sunrise and sunsets water bodies and vast landscapes. Since there was no fog, it was ideal for photography.

We covered about 100km in a day starting from Satara at five in the morning to 4 in the evening, stopping at will to shoot. We went almost three fourths the distance to Tapola but returned because we didn't see any major changes in the landscape texture. But it was fun all the way.

I will try to post some morning snaps later in the day as I am away from my machine. But yes the place begs to be explored.

amazing shots parsh and ampere. This definitely is a place to visit.
I just need to mention "Plateau of flowers" and my wifey would jump at that. She is so much a lover of flowers and greens.
The only thing which is holding me back is the distance from Kochi.
So, it defintely have to be a holiday drive. Weekend escapades would not work

Thanks Dhanush. Would suggest to check other Kaas threads also by SDP, Ashish Pallod, Laluks, Siddhesh and quite a few more, just lost the names right now and the logs of Team-BHP meets there. It is an amazing place and quite a few Team-BHPians drive up from South regions just for the Platue of Flowers, you will not regret it, a 3-4 days holidays too should be good to include Bamnoli, Thoseghar Waterfalls etc.
