Aamchi Mumbai - A photolog of a weekend spent there

I visited Mumbai after almost 25 years and fell in love with it again. Here are the photos I took during my weekend stay:

Aamchi Mumbai - A photolog of a weekend spent there-img_9191.jpg
Mumbai is located alongside the Arabian sea.

Aamchi Mumbai - A photolog of a weekend spent there-img_9192.jpg
Slums of Mumbai.
Mumbai has one of the largest slums in the world. Dharavi is its most known slum. The movie “Slumdog Millionaire” which bagged 8 oscar awards was based on “Dharavi”.

The biggest advantage of this hotel is it’s location. It’s just 5 minute walk to Juhu beach.

There are oil rigs and a flying club is near the beach so you will see lots of low flying choppers. This one was low as well as slow.

It has reduced the travel time from 60-90 minutes to 15 minutes during peak time.

A nice place to have north Indian food. I had my usual lachcha paratha and paneer butter masala. The food was delicious.

Juhu beach in the early morning.
The hotel was at a walking distance to the Juhu beach so I grabbed
this opportunity to have an early morning walk.

Aamchi Mumbai - A photolog of a weekend spent there-img_9326.jpg
A morning walk at the beach is a blessing. The sound of sea waves was
soothing and the sand below the feet was a comfort to walk on.

A cyclist at the beach. Earlier there used to be horse carts and camel for rides at Juhu beach but now
they have been stopped by the govt. Even the famous bhel-puri stalls were no where to be seen.

Playing Cricket
This old man came out from one of the hotels facing the beach accompanied by a security guard (extreme right)
and started playing cricket with the kids.It looked like this was his daily routine.

People looking at the fisherman’s catch. The best way to get it fresh.

Aamchi Mumbai - A photolog of a weekend spent there-img_94032.jpg
The Juhu beach is a very vibrant place in the morning. There are so many interesting things going around.

Aamchi Mumbai - A photolog of a weekend spent there-img_9413.jpg
Many people feed the birds on the beach. This batch was all pigeons.

Aamchi Mumbai - A photolog of a weekend spent there-img_9454.jpg
An interesting story
On the beach you will find lot of photographers who click photo of tourists, mostly from small towns.
Here is a story of two couple. One of the couple is getting clicked while the other man sneaks into the frame with a kid.
They all have a good laugh about it. It is amazing to see how we can find happiness in small things yet we forget about it.

Re: Aamchi Mumbai - A photolog of a weekend spent there

Hello Ashesh,

Once again your pictures are really impressive. Being a Mumbaikar, these places are frequently visited by us & we do not appreciate the beauty the way you have captured.

Did you clicked some pictures of Haji Ali Dargah? It is a beautiful structure for photography, be it day or night. I believe you stayed here for a limited number of days, otherwise there are many other places like Sewri (for spotting Flamingos), Akha / Gorai Beaches, Sanjay Gandhi National Park, etc.

Anyways next time you happen to visit Mumbai, do contact anyone of us here & we will be more than happy to guide you.

Thanks,

Re: Aamchi Mumbai - A photolog of a weekend spent there

Thanks mobike008 for giving life to this thread

Thanks Amit. Mumbai is a very beautiful city and I enjoyed it thoroughly.

Thanks Jignesh. This is the same thing I said about Delhi. I can't think of taking out a camera and go out for photography the way I did in Mumbai.

We reached at Haji Ali late evening and slightly tired with all the roaming around so called it a night with the delicious fruit cream.

My stay was short so could not take out time to visit other awesome places in Mumbai.

Thanks for the kind gesture, I will sure get in touch when I visit Mumbai next time.

Re: Aamchi Mumbai - A photolog of a weekend spent there

Beautifully captured in a completely different way than the mumbaikars see it every day. I hope you didnt miss out on the local train ride or gorging on the Mumabi staple food the humble Vadapav or Canon pav bhaji or pani puri stalls at Juhu beach. A visit to the mecca of Indian cricket the Oval maidan or to the CST was a must. There's lots more to see in Mumbai and I hope you will yearn for a return sooner than you thought.

Stunning photolog!

I was smiling all through the super pictures, supported by excellent photo captions. Thanks for showing me my home in such a wonderful way.

There's so much to do, see & experience in this vibrant city. The action never, ever stops. They say a Mumbaikar has trouble settling anyplace else; certainly applies to me.

*Rates thread a well-deserved 5 stars*
