Though I have never done high altitude biking before but during the last year, I have completed two week long treks with an average max altitude of 4000m. On certain days during the trek, the total altitude gain is in excess of 1000m+.

I have to maintain a comfortably steady pace.
I would suggest getting in touch with veterans from your local bicycling club first - and doing crazy hill repeats (Gurgaon Faridabad Road!). http://www.jaiman.org/2011/05/cyclin...-does-it-take/ is one person

I'd suggest connecting on twitter with @rajeshkalra @Jasbirtweets

Can't advise on the specifics except pointing you to old logs

adc in our forum has done a similar ride. http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/travel...mmit-trek.html (Extreme Expedition - Bicycling Manali-TsoKar-Leh-Khardungla & Stok Kangri summit trek)

Thanks phamilyman for the inputs.

Saw Jaiman's blog yesterday itself and read too much into it in one go. Got further motivated after reading it.

The self-supported aspect of the ride doesn't seem exciting to me, because then it'll involve carrying items for cooking and accommodation both. I only want to carry minimal clothing and bike repair items.

There are two things that concerns me, first is the bike reliability itself, and second is the lack of any travel partner.
