The newspaper funda definitely works like a charm. If you follow tour de france, the grueling 21 day cycling race, you will find that this is a very common method of keeping oneself warm

Wow Preetam Da, the narration about Day 2 was amazing. Wonderful write-up sirji. Loved to read over and over again. But yes the ride at the night would have been scary. I used to ride from Haldia to Kolkata during my internship days during the late hours and the trucks posed a serious threat to motorcyclists. Plus there were too many diversions between Kolaghat and Andul. However, the Haldia to Kolaghat road was a blast. Amazing surface, minimal traffic and cool breeze late at night made riding a pleasurable affair.

Waiting for the Kolkata-Delhi write-up Sir. Bring it on !!

I know I'm going to go against the grain, but I think on day 2 you took decisions which I would not term as mature.
Maybe you also realised it, because on other days your stints on the saddle (Km wise) were shorter.

Oh he realised it all right.Almost everybody who knew that he was pushing for Kolkata on second day advised against it.But if he was the kind of person who listened astutely to everyone's advice, this trip woudnt have taken place in the first place.:-)

That was a very scary day 2.Even knowing him for so long as almost a brother, friend, automobile enthusiast and a rider,i still cannot fathom how he managed riding for almost a day!

Re: Discovering India : 8407 Kms | 15 Days | 15 States | 2 Wheels | 1 Bike | 1 Soul

1. The extremes to which the human body and machines can be pushed!! All appreciation coming your way is richly deserved and I’m sure no other single event described in the numerous worthy threads of this wonderful forum would have evoked so much of awe and incredulity.
2. Some questions :-
a. Is your ride designed and safe for such serious rigours?
b. Wouldn’t you have enjoyed the drive much more if the mileage had been restricted to a much more comfortable (by your standards) 300-400 km per day?
c. Doesn’t your achievement qualify for a national (if not international) record?
3. How about informing Bajaj ? They are bound to be mighty thrilled and you may become the face of one of their media campaigns?
4. Lastly, (and I am aware that I risk being rebuked for this unsolicited advice), please consider quitting smoking! Regards and best wishes

I am just a very very lonely rider!
And the 200NS I like because unlike other bikes, it does not draw attention, well, barring the yellow paintjob on it!

As far as family is concerned, I do not think this whole trip would have been possible without the support from my father and mother. Will get to that in due time!

Congrats to you on completing such a feat and to Bajaj for manufacturing a capable bike.
Sad to hear that the words don't do enough justice! *Sob!* Will try harder!

My first ride was a first gen Pulsar 180 (with round headlights and non-dtsi engine)and boy, it was a brute. Was arguably the best bike in the market, period. Had many many miles of wonderful biking experiences with it. Hyd-Chennai, Hyd-Bang etc were by far the longest distances that I have covered. But as family size and responsibilities grew, my primary drive became a car and my personal ride has changed to a more modest Unicorn Dazzler. Ride lenghts have shortned too to a couple of 100kms. With threads such as these popping up, my heart yearns for a long ride of a 1000kms or more (not on my uni though, I need to upgrade).
One question though (just out of curiosity). Why did you choose the Naidupeta, Nellore NH5 route. You could have gone through Hyderabad. Roads all the way from Bangalore to Vijayawada are just awesome. You would have made much quicker progress. Bang to Hyd 7hrs and Hyd to VJA 4 hrs are the average times most people take.
I love the Pulsars, and I am also glad to say I am not a fan boy.
Respect where its due and caning where its worth, Bajaj has come out of the box as the Chetak Manufacturer and have turned the whole industry around!
As far as the route is concerned, I chose the one that was the shortest for this leg. And if some websites were to be believed, the road was not supposed to be like this!

Just a doubt on your first stay at the hotel the kms was 896 and you mentiond the rent also to be the same, or was that just a joke.
Thanks a lot for the sweet words!
If you do know of someone who can get this noticed in a magazine I would be really grateful!

Oh and not at all a joke at all brother!

Gosh! To say this as a MASSIVE feat is an understatement! Goodness! Whatever this epic travelogue is, it is certainly greater than even a GIGANTIC feat!
For want of a better word, I'd rather call it a MARVELOUS FEAT, the likes of which, laymen are not able to achieve.
All this in a Pulsar! Goodness, what a marvel the bike is!
And you, sirjee, are an excellent biker!
I'm hooked to this! Updates required, Preetamji!
Applause!
Thank you sir!

Great writeup which is very well narrated. Eagerly waiting for the next update.

Obviously the travelogue has been really good till now and I am sure it will be really interesting to read it till the last post, but what I liked the most is opening post and your narration style. Undertaking this journey is one thing and presenting it here realistically is huge task. When it comes to pictures, I need not say anything because you are already a professional photographer.
Looking forward to your next post.

To answer your questions, in order as under:
2. a)
  • 2 Days back, a friend Manju Kiran has completed Saddle Sore 1600K in 23 Hours. On a NS.
  • As we speak, another friend from Naked Wolves Bangalore, Sujay, has already completed SS1600K, SS2000K and attempting Bun Burner 2500K in 36 hours. He is already done with the 1600 Kms in 19 Hours, 2000 Kms in 24 hours, and going for the Bun Burner, 2500 Kms in the same attempt. He has 12 Hours to go and 500 Kms to cover. On a NS. Black. I have no doubt that he will be successful.
So, my dear friend, Yes is the answer. A resounding YES!

2. b) I might have. But I had certain places which I had to cover. In a stipulated time.

2. c) I have no idea of that, it would be really helpful if you have any place to check!

3. Once I am done with the triplog, I will do so. In talks with some people.

4. Soon. Very soon.

Re: Discovering India : 8407 Kms | 15 Days | 15 States | 2 Wheels | 1 Bike | 1 Soul

First of all, appreciate and respect your desire and the will to try such a dangerous and long solo ride. The max I've ever done on my bike in a day is around 270 kms, which was a 5-hour ride on NH4 & NH13. And though the ride itself was comfortable, body pains kept reminding me of the strain and broke my will to try anything of that magnitude again.

To ride a whole 24 hours is way out of the league and deserves every bit of respect! Very eager to know about the rest of your trip!

so i've just begun reading your t-log sir.
I usually don't end up reading most things till the end or thoroughly for that matter due to time constraints and a busy schedule.
But, this one has me engrossed...im halfway done but i was restless to just express my joy in simply reading this.
Thank You so much for sharing

p.s. i shall comment further again once im done completely

Lovely travelogue - thanks for sharing. Voted 5 stars.

Looking forward to the Northern leg.

I too plan to drive down to Kolkata from Bangalore in the near future. The journey wouldn't be half as taxing in a 4-wheeler - hats of to your resilience.

A tip regarding your # 2 (lol) issues: if toilet paper is too bulky for a biker, you might want to carry a small packet of baby wipes next time. Very handy for all sorts of uses.

I totally agree to you Preetam but some mistakes are such that we can't correct them. Road accidents is one of them. Once it happens, you can't do anything, damages are permanent. Please don't take me in negative way. You are very precious for your parents, your friends etc for sure.

Unbelievable man! Great. You were pushing yourself and your ride to the limits. Nice road trip and equally good write-up and pictures to making it a very captivating read. Account of just the first 2 days is scaring the crap out of me, wonder what more you have in store for us.

I cant imagine driving 1100 kms in a day let alone riding so far! Ride safe and if possible try to avoid such long rides covering 1000 kms in a day.

Wish you all the very best and hope that you "mellow" down a bit on the long rides.

Thanks
Madhav

Simply brilliant writeup Preetam.(It's the first time after Sam's demise that am enjoying a travelogue this much.)
Congratulations on this tremendous road trip, can't wait for more.
