Another beautiful write-up Samba.
And pictures - no word is enough for those exquisite ones!

It gave me a lot of info for my upcoming tour.
Did you visit someplace called "Dudhpatri"? I heard this name from a localite there and he mentioned this to be a newly found place for tourism.

Thanks a lot. But definitely Kashmir in real is majestic. To be honest i failed to capture even 1% of its beauty. Its so vast and beautiful. You must visit to believe the beauty.

Amazing frames Samba. Truly captures the life and colours of the valley. I went to Kashmir around 7 years ago and fell in love with the place. Time to relive those days through your lens. Also, what I liked about your report was the travel tips section. Nice pieces of information for people who are planning to travel to Kashmir. I remember one that I got from our driver - "If you face any problems, never approach the Police, go to the army instead. They are far better in these regions."

Waiting for many more pictures and TLs from you.

Hi Samba,

WoW with the mouth full open !!!!
I now understand why you travelogue is in limelight in spite of so many of them already.
This was not your travelogue but dreams of many, which was put into photographs like a dream unfolding.
Please give some gyana to we humans as how do to manage even 10% of what you could capture in your camera.
Lovely & Thanks

Superb TL Samba. Splendid photographs, mainly the 'Akash Ganga' one.

Your TL has made me eagerly look forward to the trip that I have planned to make in your footsteps. Needless to mention, of course, I do wish to experience those places and moments which you have so superbly captured through the lens of your camera. Also I have inquired about Ahsan Mount resort, but they said they will be shutting down the entire property by 30th Sep before onset of the winter season. So bad luck.

Well am no big photographer to guide you but still let me share my two cents-

1) See nice pictures in net taken by renowned photographers or visit National Geographic web site to see the pictures. Seeing good pictures will give you some nice idea and it will improve your vision to take better photographs. Later you can implement those idea's while you take a picture.

2) Before clicking the shutter think for a second, like what you want to capture or what you want to show others. Frame the picture in you mind first then see it through the viewfinder and click the shutter. Never click before you think. Am not saying by that way you wont get a good photograph but chances will be less.

3) Understanding the light is very important. If your subject is not properly lighted the picture will turn out to be a dud. So you can do some Google to get more details on how to use the ambient light for nature photography or any other parameters of photography.

4) Grasp some basic editing techniques to enhance your picture.

I hope it helps.

Thanks a lot dada. Wish you all the best for you upcoming Kashmir trip. Its pure bad luck that they will wrap up by 30th September. Or else staying there for at-least a night is worth it.

By the way as far as i know gearhead_mait is also going to Kashmir around October 1st week. He can confirm you the exact dates. Mostly both of you should be in Kashmir around the same time. But i may be wrong about the exact dates. Both of you can check it out.

The rates am putting in bold are the Government rates of Srinagar Taxi stand.

Now our itinerary was-

Day 1- Airport to Hotel Rs 1,000
Day 2- Hotel to airport and back to hotel. (My wife joined us next day from Delhi due to her office leaves). Then Srinagar-Yusmarg- Srinagar Rs 3,200
Day 3- Srinagar- Gulmarg- Rs 2,200 + 500 for night stay
Day 4- Gulmarg to Pahalgam via Srinagar Rs 3,200 + 500 for night stay
Day 5- Hotel to Pahalgam Taxi stand and back to hotel. Rs 500 for night stay.
Day 6- Pahalgam - srinagar. Visit Mughal Garden (Half day trip) Rs 1,700
Day 7- Srinagar- Sonmarg- Srinagar Rs 3,200
Day 8- Morning, drop my wife to airport for Delhi flight and in afternoon drop us to airport for Kolkata flight. Rs 2,000

So the total is - Rs 18,000 + Toll tax and parking.

We got the vehicle for rs 17,800 which included all the toll + parking charges.

At Pahalgam we hired an Innova for rs 2,100 for 3 points. Aru valley, Betaab valley and Chandanwari. That's fixed rate over there. If any one choose an Eeco or Tavera or Sumo it will cost less.

I suppose that's 17/- per km rate. Not much of a change as what we paid two years ago in Ladakh. If you take the whole cab then it works out much more expensive.
We paid a huge amount for taking the whole cab but then it was by choice.

For a whole day a Qualis would cost us around 2,500 per day. We used the car from Friday to Friday so its coming around 8 days, so it should have been Rs 20,000 + toll and parking charges.

These guys offer cabs at government rates. I verified there rates at Srinagar too.You can check the rates for all the places from Srinagar over here.

First thing first. Last week we returned from Srinagar and this week Srinagar is down with heavy flood. So today evening i just called up our driver who accompanied us for the whole trip. He was a nice person and i asked him about his home/family and current condition's over there and if he needs any kind of help. Thankfully his house is 15 kms away from Srinagar so he and his family are safe. According to him roads are flooded at Srinagar and slum dwellers has taken the maximum hit but situation's are slowly improving. He thanked me 10 times just because i called him to know how they are. And in return he asked about my family members and my mom's health too as she was not feeling very well at Pahalgam. If we show love to people they return us with even more love. Both of us where happy after the conversation and good to know situation's are improving.
