Post Chennai - Pondicherry ride: On a CBR 250 & Discover 150

Here it goes, my first travelogue after being with Team-bhp for quite a while. Me and my friend from work decided to go on a bike trip to Pondy from Chennai. He had bought his Discover 150 and I'm no bike expert but I certainly put my two cents insisting that he should do a run-in. Since he had been a city commuter he was hesitant for a while but the suspense of adventure did lure him into accepting it, meanwhile my company was a CBR 250.

We started on a Saturday morning at around 7am from Porur Bypass. The route we had taken was Chennai - Chengalpet - Mamallapuram - Pondicherry.

The climate was at the best, cloudy but gave a certain impression that it wasn't going to rain. The air was cool enough to nurse the engine without any torture. We put on our earphones with a volume enough to soothe our journey whilst enjoying the ride in itself. Reached Chengalpet city and into the rural towns joining at Mamallapuram. Since either of us did not have a proper breakfast we decided to break our fast at Cafe Coffee day at Mamallapuram.

The hosts of the trip

When we continued our journey from Mamallapuram the sun had come up and the temperature soared high to nearly 32C. The discover maintained a steady speed of 80 kmph and at times touched 100 kmph for a brief time, the Cbr was within the vicinity of the discover.

I had my Brother's DSLR but have no clue about it's usage in manual mode. The exposure settings were kept way below standard, apologies for that

We reached Pondy by around 1 PM and since we were so desperately looking for liquids to quench our thirst, we decided to stop for lunch at Le Cafe.

Pondicherry welcomes us!

Le Cafe

I had been to this restaurant a couple of years back and did have an amazing time there. Hence I resorted to the same place and it sure did not let me down. The steak was absolutely spot on with the steamed vegetables and the fries. The dessert was divine and sumptuous.

After we had relaxed for a bit, we hit the streets of Pondicherry and took few photos.

It was time to return back and we head home breaking at random places giving our strangled butts some time to breathe

My friend thoroughly enjoyed the trip and when we parted our separate ways home, he told me that he wanted to do a long trip consisting of 3-4 days. Well this is how addictive bike trips can be. Since I have been part of few long trips myself I decided to host this trip and began assimilating places to visit in the next 2 months. I then came up with a proposal from Chennai - Yercaud (Suggested by my friend) - Valparai. He liked the plan and the trip was all set. By the time I post this travelogue, we had already completed the Chennai - Yercaud - Valparai trip and I shall compile a travelogue for it as time permits.

I hope my first travelogue wasn't terrible and probably after few entries my write up will be bettered. Cheers!

A brief T'logue. Le Cafe is tempting me for a weekend drive! Good that you guys joined ECR after Mahabs thus avoiding the mad weekend crowd till then! As you had taken GST till Chengalpet, you could have proceed further till Tindivanam and taken diversion there! Since your return route was anyway ECT, you could have had a peaceful onward drive!

The route off chengalpet was quite interesting for me unlike the highway from Tindivanam. But I do get what you are pointing out to and it does makes sense. Thanks!

Thanks for this short travelogue; it was one of our regular routes while I was working in Chennai-Tambaram. So nostalgic and nice to get a fresh feel of the ride.

Don't bother thanking Dileep. I used to travel this route with my college mates and now most of them have migrated to different cities, even I felt nostalgic travelling that day.

A bike trip and the wonderful ECR and a beautiful city of Pondicherry, a great combination. Surely bike trips are addictive and having completed my travelogue to Ranganthittu Bird Sanctuary just yesterday, I have had two more completed road trips on bike under my belt. (Sorry for hijacking the thread). That's how addictive bike rides are.

Just wondering how was the experience of driving a CBR 250 next to a discover 150. Was the Discover always in catching mode or was it relaxed cruising?

Happy mile crunching and looking forward to your next travelogue.

Thanks mate and I did go through your travelogue as well and should say amazing captures there.

To be honest I was surprised to see the discover hold up in good shape in spite of the fact its properly made for a city traffic. The CBR however maintained a cruising speed of not more than 100 Kmph and my friend in the discover told me that he wasn't pushing hard to keep up.
