Left side looks like it'll slide down. The lose mud and rubble made it tricky. The narrow stretch with no much space to the right made it more tricky. Much to my annoyance and surprise the wheels started spinning like crazy, even with slow push on the accelerator. Either I do not know driving, or the vehicle was behaving crazy. It was not the time to debate what was at fault. The vehicle was sliding backwards as the brakes were not catching on the rubble. Quickly called the road workers to push me out of the situation and to prevent the vehicle from sliding back

After reaching the peak, after sighing a breath of relief and while sitting down next to the car, the obvious thing caught my eyes. All four tyres of the car were of different makes and different threads!! No wonder I could get any traction when required. Now that I noticed this, I was really scared to the rest of the drives, many such narrow climbs were in the cards!!

Finally we reach Hatu Peak Entrance by 08:30

Mashobra - Theog - Narkhanda - Hatu Peak - Kotgarh - Dalan - Theog - Mashobra

After visiting Hatu Peak, we drove towards Wilderness where we have a small pond and a temple. It is a hidden gem where people do not frequent. And as expected we were the only ones there. We stopped by for some quality time for the family.

Day 04 : 03/05/2016 : Tuesday
Mashobra - Theog - Narkhanda - Hatu Peak - Kotgarh - Dalan - Theog - Mashobra

Our next schedule for the day was to drive lazily through the apple belt. Where else other than the farms in Kotgarh. It was one real visual treat driving around here. Wish we came a month or so later to see the ripe apples on the trees. In May it was just about flowering and all the apple trees were protected with nets.

It was just not apples, you name it you have it here in this belt. We could see figs, peaches, pears, cherries, plums, oranges, what not!!

Welcome to Kotgarh

Oranges? We were astonished.

We stopped by. The land lady was so friendly she invited us home. We sat with her in her orchard. She got us some fruits from the tree. They were not Oranges, they were very very sour. She says they make pickles of it. Couldn't gather the English name of the fruit yet. It belongs to Citrus family any ways.

These are not Oranges! Very Sour fruits

The land lady was amused that we were from the far south, wandering in an otherwise a non touristy part of their country side. She was quizzing my wifey on the life in City and was nodding head in amusement. When we said we love her orchard and the amount of trees she has there, and we always dream to have one such home, she was baffled. wished her good luck for the harvests and we moved on.

A nice little house and a beautiful Orchard

We were all getting hungry by now. Deep inside the apple valley, little did we realize that we are far away from getting food .

By 12:45 we turned back and drove towards Narkhanda

Mashobra - Theog - Narkhanda - Hatu Peak - Kotgarh - Dalan - Theog - Mashobra

Girls were getting very hungry, and they were asking me how do I manage when I am on my month long drives to the hills, especially the North East drive just a few days back before I commenced on this trip. I was telling them Maggi is our staple diet, and we don't mind any shops that makes us Maggi. They immediately took a fancy to it, and I stopped at the next Maggi shop , a little after Narkhanda. It was already 14:00 hours by then, and no one could wait to eat!!

Our next plan was to drive to the temple in Hatkoti. The skies were getting dark, and clouds forming with such vengeance, that the drive of another 75KMs one way could become an adventure. Just by the time we paid for our Maggi and got back to the car, the skies opened up!!

We drove directly to the resort, and thought we'd spend the rest of the day in activity center playing some board games.

It was 8 degrees, and 16:45 when we parked our car

Idea was to break the night at Mandi, to catch up with Baby Alto, the HumbLeh'd II fame!

Day 05 : 04/05/2016 : Wednesday
Mashobra - Naldehra - Chaba - Tatapani - Baragta - Kumaru - Pandar - Ner Chowk - Rewalsar - Mandi

We woke up very early, packed all our stuff and cleared the resort expenses. Today we leave Shimla and will be driving towards Mandi. We wanted to explore some hidden gems on our way, and since we wanted to take a relaxed drive, our destination for the night will be Mandi. We would also be meeting Baby Alto, HumbLeh'd fame at Mandi over dinner.

By 06:00 we started to roll, thinking we will have breakfast on the way.

Starting Odo for the day, It was 13 degrees.

And we rolled out of the resort for our drive for the day. Goodbye Shimla for now. Shimla wasn't bad, but it did not impress us. Probably all covered up in snow in winter covering all the dirt around would help. Probably winter trip makes sense than a summer trip. We were having the same mixed feelings about the next destination Manali. Anyways now that we are on it, we were willing to take as it comes.

By 06:45 we drove out of Mashobra CM resort.
