Default Nagarhole

This thread is certainly good to read! Ravi, I envy you

BTW, any particular reason for choosing homestay and not choosing Jungle lodges and resorts, while at Nagarhole? I have heard only good things about JLR, hence curious to know.

Hi sreenidhibr,

Based on feedback of my friends/relatives I have choosen the places although I gudie them as well about choosing few places.

I found homestay is more neat/clean than jungle - resorts/lodges. Homestay in Kutta near Nagarhole is excellant.

Regards,

Ravi.

The JLR at Nagarhole is Kabini, which is stinking expensive, 3000 bucks per person per day.

Good Roads everywhere except few potholes between sringeri - Kudremukha.

Lot of bad road from horannadu - kottigehara and hosanagara - teerthahalli.

Ravi.

Default Bangalore - Shimoga - Kodachardi - Kollur

This is about our recent visit to relative houses and then native place as well and Back to Bangalore.

We started on Friday morning July1st week from Bangalore at 6:45AM and proceeded towards Tumkur road and had breakfast at Kamat in NH4. Then took Shimoga road, since my driver felt air pressure is too much he drove with steady safety speed like 60-70kmph reached Shimoga by 12:30 noon and had lunch at Jewel rock and topped up the Petrol in IOC Bunk in Sagar road, I recommand this bunk since I am using it from last 2 years now they take credit card too Petrol Innova returned FE of 12.7kmpl between Bangalore - Shimoga with 30% AC on with safety speeds like 60-70kmph. My driver checked air pressure and realized tyres have 1-2psi lesser than whats required, anyway I knew it after checking tyres in Bangalore itself.

We left Shimoga at 1:50pm and in sagar road took left turn towards Hosanagara in Aayanur. Kollur is 2 and half hours drive from here with good roads.

Crossed Rippon Pet - Hosanagara - Nagara - Nagodi - Kodachadri and reached Kollur by 5PM. After Shimoga it rained heavily and scenary was very nice. My primary camera is not well so my Kodak did decent job to capture few scenary.

Visited temple for Devi Darshan with our relatives and spent 2 hours there and proceeded towards Byndoor to stay in our uncle's house at 9PM.

Over all it was very nice journey.

KM travelled : 450km
Route: Bangalore - Shimoga - Nagara - Kollur - Byndoor

Regards,

Ravi.

Default Timepassing in Ankola

July06th 2008:

We planned to visit relative houses on the way to my parents place Ankola. Early morning met Samurai and had nice chat for 1 hour. His white Grand Vitara is amazing SUV. I really liked it.

We left Byndoor at 11AM and reached Ankola by evening 6pm we visited many places on the way. NH17 road condition is bad lot of potholes ith rough surfaces.

We decided to spend few days in Ankola.

July 08th 2008:

One day evening we hired TATA Sumo and visited Belambara and Nadi Bhag beach, There are lot of nice beaches Around Ankola. We visited couple of them this time. Few of my relatives who stay in Bangalore, Sirsi had visited my dad's place sametime so we all in a group had a wonderfull time!

Sorry for picture quality since camera I carried not so great!

We visited nearby local hospital Belambara where they give herbal medicine world famous this place is for if someone has paralysis attack.

We travelled typical coastal area villages because one can literally travel in fields there.

It was nice family get together site seeing trip!

Regards,

Ravi.

Default Cancelled Trip

After stay in Ankola we wanted to drive through Goa - Sawantwadi - Amboli - Belgaum - gokak Falls - dharwad - Bangalore.

Waited untill July 10th and no signs of rains at all. so decided to postpone the planned trip because there won't be water in Gokak falls and Amboli might not be in full blast of rainy reason.

That immediately flashed my mind planning Badami - aiyhole - pattadakallu - Almatti- Bijapur - Koodala sangama trip. Last moment we couldnot execute it even after preparing maps, information about hotels etc.. my daughter had lot of cold / cough and proceeded towards Bangalore and i realized my driver is also not well. Thanks GOD it was right decision.

I hope to cover this very soon!

Regards,

Ravi.

Default Timepass at WOnderLa

WOW amazing place, We had visited wonderla 2+ years before, this time experience was amazing because very less crowd even if it is Saturday may be because of Friday's blasts and its still clean and more rides! especially for kids.

I have purchased recently Fuji S8100fd camera with 4 GB memory so can take 3000+ photos without changing memory card but not sure about battery if it lasts that much.

Troop: Me, my wife, my daughter, my aunt, and 2 of my cousins.

Left vijayanagar at 10:45AM and entered Wonderla by 11:30am and studied all maps there. By that time my daughter tried few rides and we took few photos here and there as well.

Then started FUN! I really liked wonderla this time because this is matured one now. It can give entertainment to people from different age group.

Ravi.

Default Final Part

Even at 6PM in the evening no one is feeling tired and ready to continue with the fun! We didn't take any water ride because our daughter would get tempted to it and i wanted to avoid it keeping Bangalore weather in mind

So took more rides and decided to log off! Reached home at 7:20pm and it was wonderfull experience.

Ravi.

Beautiful pictures and a very well written travelogue Ravi. After going through the entire thread I feel ashamed that I haven't seen most of these places in spite of being from Karnataka.

Default Ganesha Festival Holiday

Hello Team,

I am back Bangalore after week long holiday. We decided to go to our native place and on the same time explore few places as well.

We dropped idea of visiting gokak falls and Amboli because daugahter had cold/fever. So headed directly to Sirsi.

Started at 7AM and took nh4 via Chitradurga for a change and it turned out to be better than shimoga route!

Vehicle: Innova.
Members: myself, wife, mother and daughter and driver and less luggage this time for a change!!
Distance: 425km
Ac Usage: 30% FE: 11.47kmpl
Road Condition: Good untill chitradurga and few potholes with occassional bad stretch thereafter untill Haveri. Decent road between Haveri - Sirsi considerring its statehighway.
Lunch: BP Petrol bunk gol Ghar, Near Ranibennur. Decent food.

BP Gol ghar where we stopped for lunch:

Unloading the luggage:

We started roaming to relative's houses and enjoyed Ganesha festival special food.

Few Random pictures taken in different places:

Default FUN starts now with site seeing near Sirsi

After festival we decided to visit few places nearby.

NH17 Aghanashani river bridge

Near Devimane Ghat:

Exploring Karnataka Place after Place - With Pictures-dscf1712.jpg

On the way to my wife's Parents place Awasome single lane road in the forest. 3 years back during road construction villagers took interest and inspected the road work 24/7 and they didn't allow single vehicle after laying the tarr coat for at least 8 hours. One must learn for these talented people how to get good facilities from government and utilize it efficiently. People are responsible for this beautifull 20km stretch which is gateway to Sirsi town for at least 40 villages.

Exploring Karnataka Place after Place - With Pictures-dscf1729.jpg

I love Devimane ghat very much for its good road condition from last 5 years!

I had planned to trekk for 10km in the forest near my father in law's house to one water falls which can be sited from Magod falls. But since it rained a bit because of slippary hills and afraid of leaches I postponed it.

So next day we decided to head towards Magod Falls which is 20km from Yellapur and 65km from Sirsi.

Let Pictures explain about it:

This is the water falls to which I wanted to trekk from other side of Magod Falls. This water falls can be seen from Magod Falls at 3km distance:

Road condition between Sirsi and Yellapur is very bad half way and good in rest of the stretch. Next year road work will be completed.

Regards,

Ravi.
