A simple question.

What camera did you use to shoot the pictures ?

Didn't check google maps, but a wild guess is that its somewhere near Kundapura. Remember the river weaving and the bridge while on my Pune-Mangalore bus trip.

Between Byndoor to Mangalore, there must be 15-20 rivers, even I never bothered to count. That's like a river every 5-6Kms, and hundreds of islands that look pretty much alike. Now consider the whole coastal belt from Goa to Kanyakumari. Therefore the exact location here is really irrelevant.

The Olympus E-500 to be exact, but they are practically unknown in India. The camera shops here are actually reluctant to deal with Olympus. I tried to buy E3 in Bangalore (via R.K), they didn't even both to return my calls even after repeated enquiries.

Visit MyFourThirds.com to see exclusive 4/3 shots, mostly Olympus ones.

Hi Samurai

Amazing travelogue. I hail from Kundapura, but born & brought up in Mumbai. I reminds me when the Konkan Railway was absent the economical option was going by bus, 24 hour journey at Honavara the bus used to get on a barge which would take to the other end.

Where are you based in Coastal Karnataka ?

Simple life, you got that right
Couldn't agree more. Reminds of my native in North Karnataka, where I stayed till Class X. There's no power for 10 hours a day . As for the junk food/delivery, shopping malls, broadband is concerned, no one even bothers to know their meaning.
Life is at its laziest best over there .

Couple of days back theMAG visited this place, but we couldn't go to the river side since it was already dark. But it was his second visit here, so I guess he didn't miss it much. But he did get to drink a glass of fresh Kokum juice made by my mother.

Bringing this thread back to life. Amazing coincidence!

Samurai, you would be surprised to know that someone I knew lived literally just across the river on the other side (not the island's shores, but the mainland). The house has long been sold off to someone else. They moved out from the area in pre Independence days.

I visited Southern Karnataka 2 years ago in Apr 2012 and I shot this photo using a PNS from the banks of the river which is about 200 feet from where their house once stood. I respect your need for privacy and wont disclose more than this. The picture will do all the talking.

This was my first visit to Mangalore and surrounding areas...and I really liked the city.
