AWD vehicles come on their own when doing driving on sand. Here the Gv is doing recce duties some where between Jaisalmer and Barmer. Huge expanse of sand which unfortunately will not be used in Desert Storm 2011

Some dune bashing all on my own in the country side near Bikaner. The area is quite green this year due to abundance of rains.

Great Pics. What tire pressure do you run in the dunes?

Unless there is constant stretch of sand or dune climbing is involved I keep normal pressure. Ideally I should keep it around 20psi but the problem would be re-inflating every time.

Did a recce through Rann of Kutch for Desert Storm 2012. Yes 2012. Once monsoon start this place becomes impassable.

Endless plain surface. Invites you to press on pedal to metal But watch out for odd wet patch here and there that can quickly immobilise your vehicle.

Do you think that the Fortuner can handle the Desert Storm and the Raid? Handle, as in have a fair chance of doing decently? Given its weight and somewhat inferior handling compared to the GV?

Yes Fortuner is quite capable. Lots of low end torque gives it ability to tackle problems easily.

Are you looking for Xtreme or Xplore participation?

Probably Xplore. And most likely next year. Have other plans for this year.

Read about lovely off roading excursion in the Grand Vitara over the weekend. In company of other SUV's it performed very well.
