| Tirtha Da, you are almost forcing me to take the next available flight to Kolkata. I haven't been home since the last 6 months and am yearning to visit my favourite city and seeing these pics makes that pain even more unbearable. Because of lack of leaves have had to stall all plans till Pujo. Excellent stuff, Dada. I will also add a few pics in this thread from my past visits. And I absolutely concur with your views on Kolkata - it might suffer from bandh culture, communism, slow work culture, humidity et al. But there's a certain charm that you'll get only in Kolkata. A charm that is a result of the mixture of the oldness of the city, the slow laid back pace of the city, the inclination of the denizens to take a break from all the fast paced, money-driven life and give some time to good ol' adda, with a cup of tea and loads of animated humour. That's Kolkata for me. Oh! Calcutta! |

| Fata-fati Dada, fata-fati!! The sepia tone is so typical of Kolkata by night. The Howrah Bridge pics are awesome of course, but for me, the Golden Mist pic takes the cake -- mist, sepia tone, adda, calmess.. it's got it all. And you were absolutely right when you said that one needs to leave the city to realize its charm. You know, the other day my wife was telling me that why don't I think of shifting to Kolkata if I miss the city so much. I said, I would, but I fear that I won't see the charm anymore once I start living there. I know, too much sceptical thoughts, but I felt so. I have spent a good number of years in Kolkata and I believe the city has shaped my character, however it is. But, in some ways, I like to see that same city in new light whenever I visit it. That's the window that living outside of Kolkata, has opened for me. |

| Great pics Tirthankar! Keep 'em coming. I really loved the pic on post #8, titled 'Life goes on'. I must say it beautifully captures the essence of a typical Calcutta sight. Very nice! Also the picture of Waldorf restaurant on Russel Street. I have had some of the best meals of my life in that restaurant. Calcutta is a complete gastronomic delight! Looking forward to some pictures of the puchka-wallas from Free School Street and the rolls of Nizams and Badshah in New Market. Inspite of whatever anyone may say about it, Calcutta always has been my favourite city. Theres an old world charm to it that pulls your heart strings and which no other city can come close to matching |

| Hi Tirthankar, I would like to know where did you take the bailey's swing arm pictures. The bridge is beautiful and would certainly be on my to-do list next time. One more request is that wherever you want to give a caption, that is very nice and good, but location will help connect to it quickly. BTW, any pictures of North Kolkata like beyond Shyam Bajar coming any soon?
