Default Nh2 (GQ)Review :Delhi Barhi Ramgarh 1200kms In 1 Day!!

This trip from Delhi to gola,RAMGARH,jharkhand was planned as I was finally leaving delhi bag and baggage to join my dads hospital in gola, dist ramgarh jharkhand. My original plan was to leave delhi on 20th june morning by 3am, halt at varanasi, and reach home the next day.
The car I would be using was my own baby, april07 swift vdi with 12700kms on the odo.
The passengers scheduled to go were me and my driver, and a car full of luggage.
Before the onset of the trip, due to some unfinished business, the trip was postponed to the next day i.e. the 21st morning.
The route that I had in mind is already discussed in another thread.

But, since I was free by 9pm on 20th, idecided to leave by 0000hrs on that night itself.
So I left gurgaon at 10pm, went to rohini to meet a couple of friends and set of from there at 0025 hours.

The roads were as empty as delhi roads can be, crossed India gate in 15 mins, reached mathura road in another10 mins.so it was almost 1am by the time I left delhi. Soon kilometers started to fly by, I was doing 120-130kmph. Surprisingly the roads were not as empty as I expected, on the contrary there was heavy truck traffic.
Nevertheless ,mathura and and agra went by in a jiffy, with absolutely no city traffic,
Agra at 3.40am.
Next coming up was ettawah, reach ettawah at around 4.20am.

Next coming up was ettawah, reach ettawah at around 4.20am.
And before reaching ettawah,I encountered the first unfinished part of GQ, a mere stretch of200m with no road, only a dirt trackand then a few kilometers of single carriageway.

No problems so far, upon reaching ettawah, picked up the wrong road and entered the town, lost around 5mins. Then the road to kanpur was the best road I have ever driven.
Here I encountered a strange problem, that of birds.
The thing was while doing speeds in excess of 140kmph, the car hit 3 birds which were flying low,and couldnít clear the cars path in time,so I slowed down to just below140kmph and things were ok.

Kanpur was reached at 6.30am,with no stops and empty roads.
Kanpur to Allahabad the road is okay but the traffic started to increase as the day progressed.
[FONT=&quot]We took a break at 830am some 80kms from Allahabad and gave the wheel to the driver and slept for an hour, when I woke up to the cacophony of horns and hustle bustle of allahabad.

It took us an hour to clear Allahabad,by the the time we were out of Allahabad heading for varanasi,it was11.15am.
The 4 laned road was not there in Allahabad ,so after we left Allahabad we were expexting it to begin soon after, but the normal traffic infested road carried on for another 40 or so kilometers,so long for us that the driver said, bhaiya humara runrate fall kar raha hai.(our runrate is falling)

then we saw these starnge vehicles , lots and lots of them.

Soon, however roads were GQ level, what was lacking was GQ level road sense among many drivers.
Quite a lot of vehicles including trucks were seen hurling down the wrong side, even though both the lanes were open.
[FONT=&quot]THEN we crossed varanasi and entered bihar with crossed fingers about GQ condition in bihar. Just at bihar border , the GQ was in complete, and roads were non existent

Nice update doc, nice pics too. Those band wagons near kanpur are used during shaadi time. Some guy will sing on the wagon and people(groom's friends and relatives) will dance next to it and throw money to onlookers.
WItnessed a marriage during my stay in Kanpur and saw the entire barat procession.

Abhi
Thats a nice way to put it
Those are loudspeakers usually mounted on a hand-pulled contraption (kind of a cart). This is to allow to rig up a mic and blare out bad singing for the baraat, and whoever else cares to (or not) listen.

Totally OT: Doctor, how is the Delhi traffic treating your car wrt scratches. I think you mentioned that you just can't stand them.

Hope everything is under control

Why did this thread end here? Where is Dr Abhijit. Want to ask him about the rest of the journey. Doesn't seem he has been active since this last post. Anyone knows what happened to him?

Apparently the Doc is away; so I take the liberty of filling in having recently done the stretch:

1. Road between Varanasi and Barhi is excellent. Expect some roughage at UP/Bihar border. Max 2 km but you will fly thro unless riding a Bus or Truck. At times the border is blocked due to oversmart truck drivers. But you wont be held for long.

2. Bridge on Sone is complete. The old bridge takes care of the Delhi bound traffic while the new bridge is on the Kolkata line. Pic is attached.

3. General condition of the GT road and traffic at Bihar & Jharkhand is quite surprisingly ok. Plenty of Dhabas for carwalla traveller. I would try to avoid looking up a place to stay overnight, but if you are stuck in such a situation then your best bets are Aurungabad and to some lesser extent Sasaram. Regular police petrol in Bihar, none in UP.

4. Some stretches in Bihar fall smack on naxal territory. Aurungabad, Shergati etc are best negotiated during day although there has never been any incident involving private of public vehicles in this stretch.

5. typical of GQ traffic, be always on alert for that upcoming truck right in your lane. In Bihar tractors add to this, while in UP itís the two wheeler guys.

6. Among all GQ routes, I would rate GT road as the best as far as construction quality and general traffic sense goes.

PICS:

1. New brridge on Sone. Kolkata bound. On the right is the old bridge at lower lever catering to the Delhi bound traffic.
2. GT road in UP
3. GT road in Bihar
4. GT road in Jharkand

All pics clicked within a few hours of each other.
