I'm sure to PM you when I plan on doing the Pondi trip myself.

In the gift shop in Streling Resorts Mahabalipuram, they lovingly display a framed newspaper cut-out that talks of a couple who drove all over India including the himalayas in a Maruti 800. Small cars are capable, but if your family grows in size or trips get longer, it helps going with a bigger car to carry the family and/or the luggage.

My child hood trips have been in an 800 as well and they had most amazing travel time.

Nice-Write up. I have personally experienced the Qualis phenomena quite a few times.

They are extremely peppy machines by the way they surge forward and always leaves an astonishment on my face. I never been ridden in or driven a qualis so cannot comment in detail.
But, then maybe qualis drivers are like scorpio drivers too.

I don't know how old / heavy your child is.
I am aware of the highly recommended rear facing orientation. Its a tricky seat belt fitment. I will guide u on the same, Abhi.

Great write-up, do you have any more pictures from the trip???

Have you been taking your Alto for all these trips that you have documented or was it some other ride?

What trips are you refering to?
In all my travelogues in TBHP I have clearly mentioned the number of members and cars doing the trip (before the start of the travelogue). And yes my Alto features in all of them except one (Kundapur trip in 2006)

Abhi

Nice travelogue and good pics. I do long distances once in 3 months. I am just waiting for my next one in my new Indigo XL - it will be Chennai - Tiruvannamalai - Sathanur Dam - Chennai in a single day. If time permits I will combine Jawadhu hills with it.

Default BLR - Auroville

I didnt feel the need to open a new thread so thought I post the pics from my run on this thread, hope thats fine by you Mr.Lets Go Roy

Tamil roads are mostly a pleasure for drivers, even the country roads are wide enough to maintain cruisy speed. Travel time was roughly 5 hours to and fro with a couple of stops too.

Stayed at a place called Afsanah Guesthouse which is very tastefully done up and is charming. Highly recommended for those who want to go and do nothing. Only issue for us carnivores was the lack of standard fare.. but still theres options.

The pics are repetitive and mostly of Gingee Fort, Afsanah guest house, Snowflake and the Tiruvanamalai West (azhwar) Gopuram.
