Independence '08 Weekend to Shirley and Magod Falls - Team-BHP

Hello,

Indenpendence Day Weekend '08

Hubli -> Dharwad -> Haliyal -> Dandeli Road -> Yellapur -> Shirley Falls -> Magod Falls -> Hubli

Started the trip on a Pulsar 200 and my first destination planned was to Dandeli which is very nearby to Hubli. Initially thought that the roads should be good enough and would cruise easily to Dandeli in an hour. As we took a deviation towards Haliyal from Dharwad, road was getting bad to worse. As we checked with locals about the condition of road, surprised that the state of road would be till Haliyal about 26kms. Almost took us an hour to reach Haliyal.

Umm. The travelogue needs some more ingredents. More photos. who all went. whats the distance, FE etc. Do update on the above.

Some more photos....After looking into the condition of the Dandeli road, decided to goto Yellapur and visit Shirley and Magod Falls.

Road from Haliyal to Yellapur. Beautiful road with not even a single pothole for entire 50km stretch with amazing curves very less traffic.

How did you take the photos? Your odo indicates you are cruising at 66 kmph and that too on a 2-wheeler.

Isn't it too risky?

After the Yellapur town, around 12kms towards the Ankola as we hit down ghats there is very small board on the left side "Road towards Shirley Falls" From the road its around 2kms, pretty much slush as it was raining

Truly impressive snaps Raps. The road looks great and am sure is a great place to drive. This reminds me of the drive I and a friend of mine had done in 2005 (Hubli to Karwar).

Hey Raps,

Very interesting place. This time I will visit this Shirley Falls for sure. Can you tell me vehicles like Force gurkha or what they call Tempo Trax Jeep sort of vehicle will go there ? I mean is there that much width in that road?

Is it 2km from highway or 2 km trekk ?

Do let me know, I will prepare my gang to visit this falls when I visit my native next week.
