Default Dawn to Dusk (Chunchi Falls) with photos

well,
during most of my conversations with people living in bangalore for more than 5-10years now, often leads to blank faces and blinking eyes when i ask them about chunchi falls. This make me conclude one thing. They havent explored the places nearby. Probably mysore with its super highway takes all their attention away.
i hate going to typical tourist places. I need some exploration.

I have come across this place called chunchi falls some 80 kms from bangalore off kanakapura.

Its not popular even with the taxi and cab guys. Reason being, its almost dry most part of the year. But man, if its flowing, then it is such a wonderful place to visit and spend your day.

on my recent visit in may 2008 , the place was live and active. The waterfall was full and kicking. The roar is deafening.

You have do a bit of rock climbing-crawling, to get to the falls. But its such relaxing to be drenched in the fine misty droplets all over the place. The best part, no crowd. The worst part, its not like this the whole year. So expect disappointment.

Here are some of the photos.

Nice pictures, what was the route taken, details about the surroundings etc.

Look deserted and also no scope for any eateries nearby, right.

Dadu,
Yes, its deserted. The nearest village is 3Kms away. Where you get warm cool drinks. Carry your own food or cook there. Absolutely no option for food.
Bangalore - kanakapura - Take the road to sangama/mekedatu (left at kanakapura) and keep going till you find an arch on your left after about 15Kms from kanakapura. You dont see any village. Just the arch. Chunchi falls 5Kms hand written on one of the pillars of the arch.
you have to be luck to find the falls full.

Krishna.

Nice pics. What is meant by Dwan to Dusk (the title of your thread) ? Also, if you could tell us about the route it will be helpful for others to visit. I hope we need to pack our own food.

Nice pictures. As Dadu and Snaronikar had already asked you to post the route and other details surrounding the area, it would help if you can post on the list of do's and don'ts. And how difficult the trek if we take the family with us?

snaronikar,
i actually mean 1 day'ers. Sunrise to sunset trips.
This is not a tourist place where there are places for food, stay and snacks.
Its raw, hidden and deserted. By deserted, its not a "you don't find help" kind of place. Its just that its a few kms away from the nearest human settlement.

We were a gang of 8. Reached there by 9:00, played in the water till 11:00. camped in the nearby field, reheated some packed food, dozed off for a while and started back at around 3:30 and back in bangalore by 5:30pm.

Excellent place. So, this is the one you mentioned during the meet. Nice one.
Btw, it certainly looks great and dangerous too.
Will put it in list for the upcoming meets

Chunchi falls is unknown to most of the people. We had visited the place when we had been to MekeDatu/Sangama family trip.

Its small water fall which needs 1 km trekk in rocks not very difficult but need some attention for sure especially for kids.

My cousins have reached the top of the water falls as well and every member in the trip has trekked without any tiredness.

I am too surprised to see good amount of water there.

Good one Krishna.

Regards,

Ravi.

Nice log. I have been to this place 2 years or so back, and it is quite nice and the drive to these falls and between Bheemeshwari and the falls, Mekdatu etc is very scenic and a pleasure due to very little traffic.
Cheers,

I had seen the arch and the board to this place when i visited Mekedatu some time back. However, it was almost evening by the time we started back to Bangalore from Mekedatu, hence decided to give this place a miss.

Kitti, when did you visit this place?

EDIT : Just saw that you had mentioned May 2008 in your post. Got the info i was looking for.

You lucky chap with that lovely looking jeep I envy you. No compliments for your travelogue but my compliments for being a proud owner of that splendid jeep.

BTW this is the 1st time ever I have seen Chunchi falls with this kinda waterflow. I have done innumerable trips to this place from my college days and never seen it like this.
