@ATL_BOY: Thank you. I checked again but unfortunately don't have another pic of that Civic. It certainly was a looker.

While we're onto Cars & Bikes, here are a few from Singapore (from later in the trip).

Is that a Bentley Continental? And no, this photo wasn't shot in Amchi Chennai

Now before I get back to writing about our 3 days in Phuket, here's a picture to brighten your day.

As Mr. Pablo Moustachy says, Look where you're driving!

(Well, apparently if Mr Pablo had looked where he was driving, he wouldn't have ended up off the road, on the grass - lesson taken)

Drive safe Guys.

Day 6: (At Kata Beach, Phuket)

We wake up early, the thought of breakfast helps me. It’s a nice spread, a mix of Continental and local cuisine. It’s a nice dining area, open on the sides … however I felt having bees buzzing around the orange juice dispenser was taking the ‘close to nature’ theme a bit too far. One of them drunk bees actually fell into my glass of orange juice but nope, I didn’t gulp him down. The chef makes some lovely fluffy omelettes to order. I feel greedy, my plate’s a war zone … criossants, sausages, ham, toast, apple tarts fighting for space on one small plate. A bowl of cornflakes and two glasses of Orange Juice later, my mind finally tells me that I’m topped to the brim. It’s time to check what Phuket has in store.

We walk around the quiet town, Kata as mentioned earlier is a nice place to relax, I mean really relax. We buy a few things here and there. Since we’d skipped Pattaya and hence the Tiffany’s show, we decide to check the Simon’s Cabaret at Phuket. We quickly buy a couple of tickets from a travel agent, the show’s at Patong in the evening and we decide to hire a bike … that should be fun, right.

We buy a lot of fresh fruits, we’re falling in love with the mangoes and especially the coconuts served chilled. I love the concept of the fruit vendors storing their coconuts in ice, makes for a so much more refreshing drink. We walk around aimlessly and end up giving into the lure of a massage. I get myself a Thai massage and realize too late, that this certainly isn’t one of those relaxing massages, she keeps moving my arms and legs around, so much for my picture of falling asleep during a massage. By the time we’re done, it’s pouring like crazy. We get back to our room and decide to watch a movie. (The resort lets guests rent DVD’s from their movie collection … nice!)

Here are some pics of the resort and Kata Beach.

The Resort's Swimming Pool and Spa. The Deluxe rooms on the Ground Floor open directly into the Swimming Pool, nice touch.

Interesting, now you can watch TV while soaking in the bath tub.

It's late in the afternoon and the rain's let off a bit. We rent ourselves a Honda mobike and we're off to Patong. It's fun riding here, the Thai's are nowhere as aggressive as us, on road but then neither are they stickler for rules. Feels a bit like home

We head straight to Patong Beach since the show's only at around 7 in the evening. Right there, had the tastiest pancakes I've ever tasted, I had Chocolate Banana and I've no words for it. Div (a.k.a The Wife) loves it too

Here's the maestro at work

My Vacation in the Land of Smiles-dscn4241.jpg

From there it's a short ride to Simon's Cabaret. Nice show, not too impressive but elaborate costumes ... man! Will leave you with a few pics from there.

The show's over at around half past nine and from there it's a pleasant relaxed ride back to our room. We park the mobike outside the hotel and call it a day, it's been a long day. I look at my watch, another 9 hours before breakfast ... life can be so hard.

Day 7:

It’s going to be our last day out here, tomorrow morning we’ll be catching our flight to Singapore. The whole trip has been one long joyride and we decide to make today count too. After breakfast we get onto our mobike and we’re off … where? Nowehere in particular, just taking side roads and exploring the place. We end up in Patong again and round off our shopping for the trip.

Here are some random pics from along the way.

That's me but we were actually trying to get the Nissan (?), parked inside.

@srijit: Actually, she shot all of the last set of pics (10 of them) from the back of the bike. More coming up in the next post too.

The camera is a Nikon S10.

Ruf - That's a Z4, not a Z3! And that's not a Bentley, it's a Chrysler 300C! That's not a Miata but an RX-8 & finally the last one with the red top is a Toyota MR-S!!

Nice pics! Keep them coming!!

@iraghava: Thanks for helping out. I already got a mouthful from some of my buddies for getting all those names wrong . From now, I'm going to follow Sam's deal, post the pics and leave the naming to the gurus.

@potlaravi: Thanks buddy. As mentioned earlier, the camera's a Nikon S10.

Here are a few more pics from Day 7:

So Sam, do we get a discount out here?

Looks like the Sam's Steak House and Buffalo Steak House are recommended restaurants at Phuket, saw them listed at quite a few places. Unfortunately, we had to give both a miss.

My Vacation in the Land of Smiles-dscn4385.jpg

Walking around from morning had us feeling quite hungry. We come upon a crowded mobile food stall and decide to sample some local stuff. We did have a little problem with communicating but she finally understood our ‘Chicken Noodle Soup … little spicy’. They usually have a bunch of stuff which people put into their food but since we didn’t know what’s what, we told her anything is fine. And believe me, that was the tastiest Noodle Soup we’ve ever had. A huge serving and it was good we ordered just one. And as we polish it off, the stall moves away and a fruit vendor stall pulls up (I think these mobile stalls have reserved spots and they operate on shifts), so it’s two ice cold coconuts to round up a very satisfying lunch.

Two nights running, this was our dinner spot … I bought pork chops and chicken and we’d go hog in our room. The best part is that everything is so hygienic, you just don’t have to bother to think. Quite a nice barbeque. You choose your food … from whole fish, pork chops, chicken breast or legs, chicken liver or heart and then you pop it onto the grill and then stand back as she comes around and does the rest. Again, they seem to have this with some really spicy stuff, my eyes began to water just looking at it, so gave it a miss. Lots of pork, chicken and fruits those two nights, simple but so tasty.

@Sam: During the show, I looked and I looked hard but I don't think I'd have figured it out if I'd not known about it earlier. Or probably the costumes throw you off.

Since we had to be at the Phuket Airport at around 8 AM for our flight to Singapore, the very helpful Front Office representative (haven't forgotten her face, she always managed that pretty smile) decided to pack our breakfast instead. A kind gesture since we had to check out by 6:30 AM. 45 minutes later we're at the airport and there's absolutely no security ... at ANY point. No baggage scanned, no sign of an uniform, very surprising but not complaining.

Here's my last set of pics.

A couple of random shots outside the resort.

Some shots of the Phuket Airport. It's quite a small airport.

Div calls it an Eagle, I thought it looked more like a Pigeon ... but then let me conclude that it's indeed an Eagle, a majestic eagle soaring in the high skies. You see, I afterall need dinner tonight.

Well, there's nothing more to say ... most people at airports either sleep, shop or stare at whatever moves, I settled for the latter but only after I'd downed a tasty Burger & Fish n Chips from Chester's. A fitting end to a lovely holiday with my sweetheart. I'll be back Thailand, I certainly will!

I hope you guys liked the travelogue. Thanks for all your comments and encouragement. I've got two more travelogue's lined up ... will see you over there.
