We started to head back to Pune soon after the meet. 5 of us and our lady guide safely managed to get us back home in Pune around 3am. Though some of us wanted to leave immediately, finally we decided to call it a day and get some sleep. We had hardly had 2hrs of sleep each since the time we left. We all woke up at around 8am, got ready, lazed around talking, went to the town to have breakfast around 10am. After driving for what seemed to be eternity, we reached the hotel where we were supposed to have breakfast.

Many many plates of dosas, idlys, vadas later we decided to set the NH4 on fire. We reached NH4 at around 12pm I guess with Rajiv at the wheel.

Shot these on the move.

@mclaren1885,
second pic in the last post featuring safari, the mountain in front is kenjalgad [ name of fort], the other mountain far away at the back of kenjalgad is vairatgad[ name of fort]. the pic is taken in khambatki ghat starting descend. @ 10 km from the point you have taken pic, there is right turn for mahabaleshwar.
nice travelogue.

How far is mahabaleshwar from that point? And sad we did not know earlier, could have done a quick drive through.

Tadu took over the wheel after Belgaum. We covered ground pretty quickly, but we got stuck in rain after Hubli. With the windshield in a bad shape and visibility low, speeds came down to 80kmph for a good part of 45mins. We hit the Haveri railway bridge, I took over the wheel. The drive was not so bad even in these bad stretches. We had a new topic to talk about this time . It was as interesting as the one we had while going to Bombay.

We had dinner at Chitradurga, lost about an hour or so.

Whole night all of us were wide awake listening to each others stories and before we knew it we had reached Tumkur. We decided to grab a coffee each at Tumkur CCD and kept re-calling what a wonderful drive it had been so far. Crazy, unplanned, hurried, fast, exciting, and a lot more......

Elantra sets CCD on fire.

This beauty helped us a lot. Most part of the journey she kept yelling out loud "Please make a LEGAL U-turn to proceed to destination". We were obviously setting berserk destinations often driving in the exact opposite directions to what she told us . Everytime she announced something and the driver didn't follow the instruction we ragged them, it was hilarious.

The device is from MapmyIndia. It has a lot of features including odo, speedo, trip time, still time, altitute, max speed, avg speed etc. If it wasn't for this device we would have been lost a couple of times atleast. A must have when you are traveling to unknown destinations.

Tadu, I knew Mahabaleshwar was under 60kms. Thought we didn't have time to deviate from NH4. We could have done Khandala too. Well there is always a next time. We now have an excuse to drive down again right?

Anup, the device was very accurate. Even when we did get off the highway, it showed us the shortest distance to get back and boom it was bang on all the time.

Not my fault. Someone mentioned beer and the rest was very hazy.

But seriously, like I had mentioned earlier too, I have a nice balcony which can hold 10 - 12 party animals very comfortably. Couple of Pune bhp'ians will vouch for it.

Rahul a very good, short and sweet travelogue;

If you had gone to Mahableshwar there is a another route to Satara which is about 40-50Kms from there it lands you in the city centre.

I got dropped home around 2am. The guys went home after that. The whole trip was awesome fun. It helped us know each other a lot more than we knew before. This is one trip none of us will ever forget.

Close to 2400 kms covered in 2 days, met up with many BHPians from Bombay and from the rest of the country, attended a show as well. The drive was by far the best thing about this trip, followed by the meet.

Thank you guys, for the invite. I would have kicked myself had I missed out on this.

My favorite pics of the trip.

After all this freak out, the car returned a FE of around 13.xx kmpl . Thats fabulous given that we were always 140+ for most part of the journey.

Friends: Why did you go to Bombay?
Me: Just like that.
Friends: What do you mean just like that?
Me: For a long drive!
Friends: You guys are insane.
Me: I know.
Friends (still in dis-belief): You guys drove down just like that for timepass?
Me: Yes! We were bored, so decided to catch up with some friends in Bombay for a few drinks.
Friends: We are leaving to Mekedatu for a day trip, want to come?
Me: Yes! But only if I get to drive a car or I can bring mine.
Friends: We are going in a TT.
Me: Carry on, the excitement of the drive is still ringing inside. Don't want to a TT to ruin it.

Thus ended a wonderful journey. Next time, we promise it will be more fun.

I guess the video should be up by evening. Satya if possible kindly upload a video of the GPS thing announcing directions. What fun we had at its expense.

There are tentative plans about driving down to Bombay when one of the TBHP drives happen in Bombay/Pune. Lets see if the 3 elantra's and the baleno can make it. Adi, do you want the esteem to be driven down too ?
