I saw caution, control and restraint..

3. Understanding the limits: Rishi, it took phenomenal courage to admit you were tired and make us stop after Viajyawada; Though we were behind schedule by 6 hours and 400 /500 kms, that one stop and starting @ 3 am ensured we covered 1000/ km to Bangalore the next day.
Ramky, what a superb post.

Small correction - I felt very tired just as we neared Vishakhapatnam not Vijaywada. This was one of the things I was determined about - when I feel tired and cannot drive any more at the end of the day, I will stop. Kumar & I had discussed this & other scenarios well before our trip.

With some good sleep that night, I was all set for a 3 am start the next day.

When we met Surya (planet_rocker), Kumar started off saying - "We have 2 options. 1 - we stay here for the night.." I didn't let him go to Option 2

More pictures coming up soon. Especially proof that the Canon IXUS 70 is a much better camera than the Canon IXY 70

Hrishi... whom are we kidding? There is a lot of difference in the way and time the two photos were taken. The 'IXY 70' photo was taken when the subject was too close and moving thus creating that effect. It needed a faster lens and less shaky hands to do justice to that photo. It is also possible that it was taken at the telephoto end which also could have led to the same problem.

On the other hand the 'IXUS 70' phot was taken much before the subject came so close. Without zooming in. No wonder the photo is so much sharper.

Kumar Ji, Dumri and Bagodar we cannot call it town. Both are in Giridih district of Jharkhand. Markets are situated in these places either side of GT Road. Both place including Barhi were famous (infamous) for long jams on GT road. Sometime jam would extend to 4 - 5 days as trucks gets pile up on the road. Some 3 - 4 years back (Even now but not confirmed) truckers used to keep sufficient stock of food for 1 week, stove, water etc in the truck itself when they have to cross through GT Road.

Bagodar is place where road cuts to Hazaribagh, Ranchi, Tatanagar etc and Dumri is place where road cuts to Giridih, DeoGhar as well as Bokaro steel city. Both place are separated each other by 20 Kms appx.

Also let me tell you from Dumri the place called Parasnath is 20 kms towards Giridih is the biggest pilgrimage place for Jain Community. It is also known as ShikharJee. If you can recall you might remember a hill towards your left side in Dumri. That is Parasnath Hill and is called Shikharjee. Dumri railway station is called as Parasnath Railway Station is on Delhi - Howrah main line.

Is this the hill you are talking about? We could see several white temples on top of this hill.

That's true. Some of the best pictures we clicked during this stretch of the drive. They are in Hrishi's camera and he should upload them soon now.

He he he.. Imagine taking a dip in the Ganges in that winter morning . I heard the mjothi's mother was mad at him for not taking a dip in the Ganges inspite of being by the banks of the Ganges. Maybe he will do so in the Feb GQ drive

All she had to do was to tell us - we would have happily dipped him in the Ganges. He could have then travelled for some time on the running board to "dry" and the sight of somebody on the running board of either SUV holding on for dear life would have been so normal in that part of the country.

Cheers,
Yes, it is. These are the holy temples of Jain Communities atop hill. To go on top approx 6 Km they go by road (in some 4X4) and then another 6 km by walk or in Palki (Not knowing english word of Palki). Everyday many Jain pilgrims visit atop hill and come back by evening. On the foot of hill they have their Dharamshalas and hotels to stay.
